Condolences to all mourning the loss of Mama Hill. But oh, what a good, long life. I've had a song in my head since I heard it about a month ago. It won't let go of me. Part of it is Allison Krauss and that hypnotic, angelic voice of her's and then there are the lyrics. At this time of year when things can easily spin out of control, I'm trying to embrace the message and trying to keep the unimportant "things" from spinning. It's a not so simple song about her grandfather. Simple Love Little yellow house sittin' on a hill That is where he lived That is where he died Every Sunday morning Hear the weeping willows cry Two children born A beautiful wife Four walls and livin's all he needed in life Always giving, never asking back I wish I had a simple love like that I want a simple love like that Always giving, never askin' back For when I'm in my final hour lookin' back I hope I had a simple love like that My momma was his only little girl If he'd had the money he'd have given her the world Sittin' on the front porch together they would sing Oh how I long to hear that harmony I want a simple love like that Always giving never asking back When I'm in my final hour looking back I hope I had a simple love like that I want a simple love like that Always giving never asking back When I'm in my final hour looking back I hope I had a simple love like that

Mama Hill sure could smile! I'll always remember her waving at me from the back door of the H&H, the door into the kitchen. I was in Macon on business and didn't have time to stop that day but I always drive by THE H no matter where I'm supposed to be when in that neck of the woods. What a smile! She was so proud of the tree planted in her and Mama Louise's honor at Rose Hill. I had the honor of walking her from the car to her chair at the dedication of the tree . We walked slow I had all the time in the world, I felt so honored. Just some memories of a wonderful human being. Take your rest now Mama Hill.

It saddens me to hear of the recent loss of loved ones. I lost my father 10 years ago, always a rough time here for Christmas. I loved my dad, but never once told him. I only hope he knew.

I'm sorry to read about Mama Hill's passing. My condolences to her family and friends. I've never eaten at the H&H, unfortunately. It was closed when Lana and I were in Macon in July 2002 (on a Monday, I think?).

Skypup, Florida's cold too? Now that's just wrong ! Here's a nice way to stay warm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93vjIXf5ek4 Thanks drobyn. My father built a mean fireplace, always kept ours roaring during those winter months. Looking forward to seeing some more of your photos of the Big Apple, especially some wintery ones. Makes me glad I moved down here. Temperatures up to 76 tomorrow. Heading out to Lake Marion. :fish:

Just flying by to say "Hi". Can't seem to find the time to socialize at all, work is just killing me. God Bless Mama H., although I never have had the opportunity to get to Macon and indulge, she sounded like a truly good human being who looked past the long hair and different life style of our band members and judged them on the "content of their character" as MLK said. On the topic of the H & H, are there daughter or son H's to carry on the tradition or am I in danger of never getting there? I remember my favorite Mexican resturant of all time never recovered after the death of the family patriarch. The kids that took over were lousy cooks. Hopefully the tradition will continue for generations to come. Be good out there, can't wait to find out where and when the Manhatten mayhem will ensue.
