The memories just came flooding back....
After the horror of the day, coming here, waiting for everybody to check in.
Well into the night. For the most part, we were just getting to know each other. Nobody yet had a grasp of the extent of the death and devastation. I didn't know the difference between who lived in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Connecticutt, NYC. I remember being focused on everybody here being OK. Odd how priorities evolve as you go through life.
This is for "itsmecolo," who's looking for HTN #51. I have one for you if you haven't found one yet. Send me your mailing address and I'll get it out to you. Regards, and I'm glad you like HTN! Tom Clarke

Happy birthday to Krishna! Have a great year.
Derek Trucks continues to mature, continues to be an interesting adult, through the eyes of this Duane Allman fan. I love the thought, "Oh yeah, that's Eric Clapton, playing this song..." Left unsaid was the rest of the thought, "And I'm where Duane was when it came to be." Modest, confident, interesting. The road is in good hands.
Hey Gang:wave:

Derek makes a nice comment about Duane near the end of this...
Headline: Guitar hotshot Derek Trucks, 29, grows up on road with idols
By ADAM BOWIE
The Canadian Press
FREDRICTON _ It can be a hard life for a guitar-slinging man of the road,
but Derek Trucks says it's the only one he's known.
Trucks plays lightning-fast guitar riffs and bottleneck slide in three
hard-touring bands: the Derek Trucks Band, Soul Stew Revival with his brother
Duane and blues-singing wife Susan Tedeschi, and the legendary Allman Brothers
Band.
He also recently completed a tour playing guitar with Eric Clapton's band.
Trucks, 29, said he's grown up on stage.
''I guess it's been close to 20 years on the road now, so that's pretty
crazy,'' he said. ''I don't really know any other way.''
Trucks said his career in music has allowed him to play alongside many of his
musical heroes, but he hasn't had time to be starstruck.
''You get to work and learn the tunes, and I think more than anything you're
so focused on the task at hand that you don't really have time to step back and
figure out where it falls in the grand scheme,'' he said.
''But there were times on the Clapton tour, where we'd be in Stockholm
playing Derek and the Dominos tunes that I grew up listening to _ my dad named
me after that record _ and I'd look over and say, 'Oh yeah, that's Eric Clapton
playing this song.'''
The Derek Trucks Band will perform two shows Thursday at the Harvest Jazz and
Blues Festival in Fredericton.
Trucks, who was named to Rolling Stone magazine's list of the Top 100 guitar
players of all time, said he tries not to get too caught up with other people's
opinions.
He said he was more pumped that slide guitar legend Duane Allman was in
second place on the list ''because he sometimes gets lost in the mix.''
''I was out on the road with the Allman Brothers at the time and you could
see the pride it gave those guys considering that four of the guitar players on
the list had been in (their band),'' Trucks said.
