I have an acoustic show that was for an IRSA benefit from the early 90's - Dickey, Gregg, Woody and Warren - I just love this show - pure joy!

Hey there sweet family, Bird, that was hilarious! Wish we still had the Peachies, because I'd nominate it for GB Post of the Year! 🙂 Take care and know that you are loved, Lana

Well I'm a lurcher but I wanted to put me one cent in. Really glad to see some good discussion about Dickey etc...As a huge "dickhead" I would love to see Dickey back where he belongs, though it may be tough. I would assume that Dickey would want to resume his leadership role, and that probaly is a major roadblock. When I have seen the "ABB" the past few years, all the member seem so happy, I cant remember the band with Dickey being that happy since the mid 1990s. But I have to think the pull of playing larger venues by billing this as some sort of reuion might win out. Lets keep talking about this and continue to be nice about it. Thanks

Good Morning, Yes, I for one do not care what they play.... the roar of the crowd will be magic to my ears .. I could not even begin to think how that will shake their bones... it will soften the hardest of people. As I have said on all the 40th threads in Anything Goes here and at Dickey's ... Some one has to be BIG enough to set this in motion.. Who could that be " I wonder " I still think if Duane were alive .. purely speculation .. He would say "gotta get Betts".. even if things went down all the same way in the few years... I'm sure he would say .. No celebration with out Betts, Red Dog, Kim Payne , Willie Perkins... Are you kidding or what ??? Get together for your fans .. Do it .. It is the right thing... Bird72.. you crack me up ... 😀

I forgot to say that last night about who would play bass. No one. Gregg know how to use the foot board. He does not like to play the foot board but knows how. That is if they needed a bass line. Which they do not. Believe me they can rip it up. They did this at Butch's studio back when Allen was trying to get in the band. I don't care what thy play or how they play it, or who talks to who on stage. Just bury the ax and play. This up coming tour, could be the last. I am inclined to think, it is. Old members are getting older. Two years from now, at our age, will make a big difference.

Great post Bird. I'll go along with all of it, except maybe the Weir thing.

Let me clarify Dog. Would they be thin sounding now?? Probably not but wanted to ask what folks thought. I guess another question. With the 4 up there, who would play bass? One answer or suggestion would be quite funny when you talk about mending fences.

LOL. Leave it to Tony to put it all in perspective. BTW, who the hell would attend an ABB show if they hated intrumentals and long jams? Kinda like Johnny Come Lately Dead fans who only wanted to hear "Touch of Grey" type tunes because that's what they saw on MTV?

I think Dickey should fire his entire Great Southern band. I know, I know, they are nice guys and great players, but can their asses. Gregg, JJ, Butch, Oteil and Derek can then be asked to join and the band renamed Great Allman. They will play 3 sets at every show. The Instrumental Set. People that hate improvisation and long songs can mill around and buy drinks and socialize. The Cover Song Set can explore all the fine nuances of other peoples music, all at once. Again, a nice 45 minute block of prime mill time for the disinterested. The last set can be The Original Song Set…… I can’t see much milling around here though….. You might say why no Warren? Well, he would start the New Allman Brother Band and hire Bobby Weir for the last leg of his I Wear Shorts All My Life Tour. Devon, Duane Betts and all the young uns can join in this band. My story and I’m stickin’ to it…..

My hope may be a little different than others, but it is my hope. My two cents which is probably worth .0002 cents in this economy.... It is my hope that the original members of the ABB (and I do include the road crew since they were band members) would at least mend their differences and be friends again. If we get any music as a result of that, I would be happy. If it happens before the Beacon, fine. If it doesn't ...fine. As long as it happens and I can see and know it....(patiently waiting)....

'Nice to see mostly civil conversation. I guess I can see someone not wanting to hear a Van Morrison song (or any song for that matter) at an ABB show but, imo, griping about cover songs at an ABB show is like griping about 'jamming' or hearing an instrumental at an ABB show. They've been doing all 3 at every show since the very first one. Who are 'we' to say they must stop great covers and/or must only write new songs, ya know? 'Saw a GREAT show tonight...my kindergartener's version of the class Xmas Jam. John Paul Jones didn't show but Evan Joshua John did and he rocked! 😎

Rick I have heard the four and no the sound is not to thin. Had very big and great sound. I have posted before that they could do a gig and tear the house down. I do believe that. Songs fo me. Dreams, Standback, old version of Mountain Jam, Not my Cross to Bear, Trouble no more. Ramblin, blue sky. Lizzy and the story. The Whip and that story.

"Bougainvillea" is one of my favorite songs....Dickey plays with such passion. he bends one note in the solo part that is just insane.

..and another brain fart here, sorry. It HAS been on my mind. I wonder out loud if it were just the 4 up there if the sound would be too thin. What do you guys think?
