The "live" versions should be interesting to see where from, or previously unreleased.... Beyond that, appears to be yet another in a long string of greatest hits adventures.... Great for Dickey and the income chain though... πŸ™‚

Thanks Leeann....it's just dealing with a bunch of details, trying to take care of my business too. Just part of life at this stage. Responsibilities have a tendency to get in the way of fun. Thanks Bluefox for the info on Rick. Compliments on his playing still going on around town. And his friendliness. He made some friends here--both for himself, and the Marshall Tucker Band. Saw in the Forum where Doug Gray's wife passed away yesterday. May she rest in peace.

Randy, that was my friend, Rick Willis. Here's some background info about him taken from the MTB website: "Rick Willis Born, raised, and musically nurtured in good ol’ Spartanburg, South Carolina, Rick Willis was inspired by artists ranging from Otis Redding and Sam & Dave to Van Morrison and Eric Clapton. Rick’s been a part of the MTB family lineage for a long, long time: his childhood home was just a few doors down from the household that founding MTB drummer Paul Riddle grew up in. One of his earliest gigs was playing in the Roosters with his friend and future MTB bassist, Franklin Wilkie. After some time living in Charlotte, North Carolina in the middle of the 1980’s, he returned home and promptly hooked back up with Wilkie and Riddle in their band the Throbbers, a jazz-fusion outlet that the Tucker rhythm section enjoyed during their down time. He later played with the Stinson Brothers, and every so often sat in with his friends Tony Heatherly, β€œPic” Pickens, Mark Burrel, and Toy Caldwell in the Toy Caldwell Band. When Toy passed on in 1992, Rick stood in for him, singing and playing those illustrious tunes with Toy’s band at a slate of tribute concerts. With his stellar reputation fully intact, Rick would play onstage with the Marshall Tucker Band now and again, though he didn’t tour back then to spend time with his family. Currently, when he’s not crisscrossing America with the Marshall Tucker Band, Rick leads Jackson Crossing, an uplifting, heated ensemble that carries on his alliance with SevenMoore bassist Tim Clement, and reunites him guitarist Rusty Barkley and keys man Jimmy β€œGrub” Thornburg from his Charlotte days, as well as drummer Scott Stinson from the Stinson Brothers." Dont miss MTB when they play in your area....Rick will WOW you with his playing!!!

Awww yes, 4th of July in Nashville 2002, first time meeting much of the ABB family...Easy Michael, Scott, Cee Cee, Joe Roy, Zambi, although somehow I missed Billy (finally met Billy in Atlanta in '03) and Lana that evening. Got to hang with David Wyatt as well, who I had met previously (I believe David, Libby, and Ron "Hophead" Currens were the first 3 Guestbookers I ever met, if I remember correctly I met David at a Dickey show in Atlanta and Ron and Libby at a Derek show in Athens, both taking place in 2002). Another scorcher, 3rd row seats, damn fine concert, once again it was more heady days for me, America's birthday, fireworks...Houston we have liftoff...whew. David and I were just discussing this very concert at Wanee two weekends ago. Ryan

Enjoying the GB today. Good Post Leon! I missed the pregig 8 years ago before ABB. I was having my own gig with Aikens,Slash,Cher of Peterman, Groovy Don, Tatum, David S and Mary. All from Monroe County Alabama. I thought it was a real good show but I always do. Made the one the next year. Also met some of you in Nashville at TGIF. I think that was July 4th.

Didn't realize that I had missed you in '01, Chris. I remember sitting at a table in '02 with you, Brent and a friend of yours (his name escapes me...sorry) and laughing to the point of tears. Come for the music, stay for the comedy! πŸ˜€

"Just" 8 years? Man, it seems like decades....everything in my world is completely different. Some good, some bad. Life. But it was indeed a great day for friendships to come to be. I wish there was a group photo out there of this. Too much Warren that night for me. I've warmed to him a bit since. πŸ˜‰ No deal, Lefty....I was going on 3 hours sleep and a hangover, wasn't all that sociable. Got hugs from Leeann and Megan, so I got the priorities down. I'll be sure to get a handshake next time πŸ˜€ Great, quality show by you guys, as always. Can't make GABBA, first time in many years. Still trying to get organized from dealing with moving Mom, just don't have the time to deal with all the little details. I'll miss you guys.

I'll definitely agree with your assement of the concert Scott, not the greatest show but fun. It was the tour opener, a little rough, but there was plenty of energy and as I said before it was a rocker...heavy handed, hard edged. When I left I told one of my friends that I felt like I was riding a bull during the show, which was due to numerous reasons but needless to say it was intense where we were standing/"dancing." Sorry that I missed meeting everyone at the pre show gathering back then, sounds like a good time was had, fortunately I have met most those fine folks as the years have gone on though. Ryan

Charlesinator, in the Applebee's house ... tell me it wasn't 8 years ago? I agree with GS this was where the friendship, fellowship and brotherhood started to overshadow the music. Well in truth that may have occured when Warren and Woody departed in 96 ... but I digress. It was a great night and so many friendships started then and there. However, I enjoyed the show especially Warren's guitar echoing on the yonder mountains ... classic.

PeachNutt, you hit the nail on the head there, my friend. And, honestly, I enjoyed Moogis that much more knowing your boy was getting the A+ treatment most nights. Scott, correct, no Hall of Fame performance last Thurs! I'm saving that for Phish this Friday. However I did manage to sneak off for a pinch pre-show. 'Hope to see you son - say high to the fam.... 😎

Ryan, I definitely didn't have as much fun as you guys, from the sound of things. Since that show was the first of three in a row (Birmingham > Nashville > Louisville), I was definitely pacing myself. By the time the third night rolled around in my hometown, I more than made up for lost time, as those in attendance with me can attest. To be honest, I thought the '01 Oak Mountain show was just okay--one of those performances by the band that was overshadowed, for me at least, by the good times I had with friends bofore, during and after. When I pulled into the parking lot at the hotel across the street, I hadn't set one Birkenstock on the ground when I heard "GreatScott!" And there was GPM (who I had never met before, mind you), heading towards me across the parking lot with a big ol' grin on his face. It was just that kind of night! Enjoyed the pre-show at Applebee's, where I met Brent and Randy, among others. Spent the whole show with Zambi, and I swear it felt like we had been seeing shows together for years. Hung out with Jason Carter and Danielle afterwards, swapping stories (and shots) until the wee hours of the morning. I mean, where else can you have such good times with people that you've never met before? 😎
