The Allman Brothers Band

A beautiful night once again at the beach. The band gained strength as the gig wore on, highlighted by a stellar “Liz Reed.” Jazz great Roy Haynes sat in on “Afro Blue” as he did at the Beacon earlier this year. Those of you who thought this was time for a bathroom/snack bar break at this time certainly missed a true legend. “You Don’t Love Me” is back to sounding as it was played at the Fillmore, rather than the swinging version of years past. Overheard a few rows ahead of me during the drum solo, “What the hell is this *****? This ain’t the Allmans, it sounds like the Gong Show.” Way to go there, oh wise one.
