Trump has gotten away with SO much, the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots being foremost in my mind. That being said, this settlement is nice to see. Even though $5 Million is likely just a pittance for him. It's the fact that he lost that pleases me.

Mama A to the Rescue

A frequent traveling bud (Yo, Paulie!) and I were on the road with GA&F, our annual winter trek with the band. One of the shows was at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL.

When we arrived Stacey greeted us. She said we were going to watch the show from an opera box. We'd been to HOBs with Gregg many times before, but watching the show from a box would be a special treat.

I was giddy with excitement but managed to follow her across the floor, up the stairs to the box without tripping or otherwise humiliating myself. Cool, calm and collected. That was me. For about a minute.

When we entered the room I walked to the rail, checked out the stage, turned around ... and saw Mama A sitting in a chair. Mama A! I'd never met her before!

A normal person might simply have walked over to her, introduced themselves and said a warm hello. But cool, calm and collected moi walked over ... dropped into a full, deep curtsy and said, "I'm Lana".

Argghhhh. My humiliation was instant and paralyzing. I didn't know how, or if, I was going to be able to recover.

Fortunately Mama A came to my rescue. "Of course you are, dear" she said patting my shoulder, motioning for me to take a seat next to her. Her gracious understanding and kindness prevented that House of Blues from turning into my personal House of Horrors.

I love some of Jaimoe's quotes in the new Gregg Allman documentary. Sample quote (I paraphrase): "I was planning on moving to New York to play jazz. Then I met Duane Allman, and that all changed. I thought, 'I can play jazz right here, with this dude'. Whoever would have thought of starting a band with two guitar players and two drummers? I don't think anyone would have thought that would work. But that was Duane's vision."

I know that it's been a labor of love, and has brought people together through our common interests in the music by the band and crew. Gregg Allman & Monte "Mondo" Thomas Interview At KILO 94 AM, Colorado (1988)

Promoting the Gregg Allman band on their Just Before the Bullets Fly Tour in 1988, with Dr. Dave Curtis & the Housecall band being the opener. By 1988, Gregg got to be great friends with the latter's band, ex-Cactus soundman turned bass player Monte "Mondo" Thomas. They occasionally had some hilarious adventures as friends over the years up unti Gregg's passing in 2017. This interview done at KILO 94 AM radio in Colorado while stoned out of their minds was one such adventure, as Mondo himself explains in the very beginning of the video before the tape plays. Digitized & remastered by Andrew "heathinvader" Scott in 2025. Enjoy!

There's a saying that goes, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks". Fortunately you don't always have to. For example, Dickey often took his Jack Russell terrier Mugsy on tour. He always walked him after shows, before the band hit the road.

One night during the Real Trippers bus trip the unthinkable happened. Mugsy wrestled out of his collar and took off running under and between equipment trucks, tour buses and cars. No matter how many times Dickey commanded "Mugsy, stop!" or "Mugsy, come!" the little bugger kept running.

Many people joined the search. The dog was nowhere to be found. Finally one of the Real Trippers, long-time fan Alan, emerged carrying him in his arms.

Dickey was elated. He took Mugsy, carried him into his bus, then came out and offered Alan his heartfelt thanks. "I'd like to shake your hand", he said.

Alan hesitated. "Um, I don't think I should."

"Why not?"

"Because when I caught him and picked him up he peed all over my hands."

Dickey extended his hand,. "I said I want to shake your hand."

Alan didn't move until I barked, "Alan, shake!" He understood the command immediately and shook hands with Dickey. Good boy! I didn't have to teach that old dog a new trick!

At Fillmore East dropped 7/6/71

55 years ago today At Fillmore East was released and gave the band a big shot in the arm. It sold ( and outsold the first two albums) over 100,000 copies the first week and went on to go GOLD in Duane's lifetime which made Duane proud and the other band members thought Duane was right all along. This band is going to do real good.

Today the album is Platinum ( over 1 million copies sold) and is regarded by many critics of rock music the best live album to date 55 years later.

My original vinyl copy from 1971 has a pink label with Capricorn in big letters and in small print " distributed by Atlantic Records New York, NY.
