When Bud changes its name to America, will it still be mediocre beer?

Back in the '70's I hung out at The Anchorage in Somers Point, NJ. Their claim to fame was 7 beers for a dollar. I believe it was Rheingold. They had a $2 minimum, so as soon as you went in and paid your 2 bucks they set 14 glasses of beer in front of you. After you got through those if you needed more you'd just pick from the beers sitting in front of other people. It was a cheap way the have unlimited beer. I went back once in the '90's and The Anchorage had become an upscale restaurant. I was sad to see that.

This is the best, most civil thread ever in the WP. Since there are no women posting here anymore, maybe we should start a thread about the wonders of boobs.

edit - oops! I forgot about gina. How could I ever forget about gina?

If you are into craft beers then no doubt you know about Heddy Topper.

Oy, Heady Topper... I have some friends who are like HT cult members. I personally don't care much for it. There are guys who will take their families to VT for a week and spend one whole day in a rented van travelling around the state trying to buy as much of it as possible to bring back to NY.

I've been known to drink a couple of icy Buds after cutting the grass on a nice summer day. Cool

Anyone remember when the Rolling Stones put out a beer in the 70's? Looks like they are or were at it again recently...

I was in the liqour store about a year ago and I saw a bottle of Hudepohl. I drank that in college 25 yrs ago. I thought I would give it a try again. That had to be the worst beer I have ever tasted. I dont remember it being that bad. I thought it was skunked! So I picked up another single a few weeks ago to give it a try, it's just plain awful.

I am not a beer snob by any means. I keep Miller High Life Light in the frig and I do enjoy some of the craft beers that offer more of a fuller body and hop kick to it.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Back when I was in high school, we used to get these two products on occasion.

Those little kings came in eight packs and would thoroughly plaster a 16 year old.

I still drink both of those when I can find them.

Cool thread -- ya the pony packs -- Michelob Lite made six packs of those (still might) -- six 7-oz bottles, frosty cold -- went down real tasty

Genny Cream -- an Empire State staple -- honestly tho, wouldn't touch one today

'gansett -- they got into the cream ales -- & the rye ales??? Yow

In highschool and college I would drink all sort of beers from craft/microbrew, and cheap beer as well.

This was my favorite cheap beer:

This beer was not too bad either:

I did not enjoy bud, coors, Iron City, Natty light or natural ice, Beast or Milwaukee's best ice but if those were the only options at a party, or someone bought me one I would drink them or just drink liquor instead.

My friend drank genesee cream ale when we went camping to SPAC one summer to see the Allmans but thankfully he also bought a case of George Killian's Irish red as I took one sip of the Genesee and did not like it.

Kashper is also looking to sell more of the 77 beer brands and the recipes it owns — many of which have not been brewed in decades — and ride the coattails of the craft beer craze. For example, Pabst will soon start selling Woodinville-brewed Rainier Pale Mountain Ale, using a recipe derived from the one for a Rainier beer that was last brewed in the 1930s and 1940s. Other brands include Lone Star, Schlitz, Olympia, National Bohemian, Colt 45, Schmidt and Pearl.

I am outraged! How can they do such an unpatriotic thing like changing the name of a good American beer by changing it to America? This Belgium company is the straw that breaks the camel's back!
From this point forward, after any Jack Pearson gig, I will go to the Freedom House and have the All Star breakfast with the Freedom Pancake!Take that you Belgium bastards!
