When a Majority is Not a Majority - Fla Amendment 2

If a football (basketball, baseball ...) game ends with a final score of 57 - 43, a reasonable and logical conclusion would be that the team with 57 points won. A guy with $57 has more money than a person with $43. 57 is bigger and greater than 43. Right?
Well the Florida Amendment 2 - which would have allowed for "prescription marijuana" - and likely paved the way for future legalized recreational marijuana was defeated in yesterdays election. 57% voted FOR the bill. But some archaic Florida law requires a "super majority" of 60% before a bill can become law.
Government by the government - for big pharma, alcohol and obstinate @ssholes!
UPDATE: final counts reveal the percentage of pro votes at 58%+

Since I live in the fine state of "if it don't make sense, then it must be Fl" Florida, I was certainly not surprised @ the outcome.
And the law isn't all that archaic, Rusty. It was voted in that way so there would be no doubt wott the "people" wanted when it came to the "majority".
Not sure what the problem was with 51% of the people? 51 is more than 49, just like 60 is more than 40!
We're not worried...once Jeb becomes prez, big pharm and alchy will be able to work a deal to make sure they recover their looses from a passage of that law.

Seems I recall a Presidential election where the majority voted one way, but it turned out another way.
This helped me understand how that happened.
