LOL, oh my no way he can back pedal on this one when you call Mexicans who come here criminals and rapists. How could such an ignorant dope get so rich?

How are there freedoms curtailed?

I would imagine the high taxation required to support a socialist economic system curtails just about every freedom imaginable.

Imagine a few of those freedoms for me. Paint a picture.

What are you not free to do in those countries that you can do here. Just give me a short list... 7 freedoms we have in the United States that don't exist in Canada, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, Belgium...

If you can't please admit you know nothing about Socialist countries and stop criticizing stuff of which you know nothing.

What freedoms are curtailed?

By high taxation? What you drive, what you eat, what you drink, where you travel, what hobbies to pursue, how you dress, the list is long.

Again, if you choose to list mixed economic systems (i.e. Canada) the United States should not be excluded on any such list.

I don't claim to be an expert on socialism, but I do see movement away from that system in various places. Why are countries such as Russia and China moving away from socialism toward a more mixed economy and free enterprise capitalism? Do they want a lower standard of living? Strangely, the US seems to be moving in the opposite direction.

Material goods are not freedoms alloak.

Where you travel? The citizens of those Socialist countries engage in far more ,international travel than most Americans experience. They eat and drink a lot of the same food and beverages we eat, probably have better diets, certainly lower obesity rates.

Nothing you offered in your list is a freedom curtailed in those other countries. Nothing. Zero. Zilch.

You really are showing a voluminous lack of knowledge in this thread.

Univision Dropping Miss USA Pageant Over Donald Trump Comments

Univision is dropping the Miss USA pageant and says it will cut all business ties with Donald Trump over comments he made about Mexican immigrants.

The network said Thursday it will not air the July pageant and has ended its business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which produces the Miss USA pageant, due to what it called "insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants" by Trump, a part owner of Miss Universe.

During his presidential campaign kickoff speech last week, Trump accused Latino immigrants of bringing drugs, crime and rapists to the U.S. He called for building a wall along the southern border of the U.S.

Trump says he was only criticizing U.S. policies concerning Mexico, not its people. He says Univision is in default of a five-year contract.

Univision's decision is the latest in the fallout over Trump's remarks: On Thursday, Puerto Rican actress and Miss USA presenter Roselyn Sanchez severed her ties with the pageant. And on Wednesday, Colombian singer J Balvin canceled a planned performance.

A spokesman for Balvin said in a written statement that the singer's management told the Miss Universe organization to withdraw his name from an announcement about participants in the Miss USA broadcast.

Denmark, Canada, Finland, Netherlands,Sweden, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand, Belgium...

These are considered some of the top Socialist countries.

What freedoms do Americans enjoy that the citizens of these countries don't have access to?

I think your opinion is based in ignorance.

Your source is biased toward socialism and also contains opinion and subjective claims throughout. Therefore, not a valid basis for further discussion or comment. Also, China is at the top of the list and you left it off your list.

JMO but I don't think Trump entered the race with any intention of taking it seriously. He is a media whore and knew this would get him free press. Except this time it looks like it backfired on him and may cost him some $$$.

Like I said I just hope he participates in the GOP debates along with Ben Carson as it will be the best comedy on TV.

It would be great if you would refrain from denigrating a system you are not qualified to speak of.
Nothing in the article was used in our debate except the countries that are unquestionably Socialist.

Your performance on this debate is an epic failure.
Perhaps we can get you a participation trophy.

Latest poll has Trump in 2nd place behind Jeb. He then mocked Bush.

It doesn't get any better than this. Looking forward to doing shots & watching the GOP primary debates. Free entertainment on TV. Should be better entertainment than WWE.

I couldn't believe when I checked out a poll from New Hampshire. Bernie Sanders is surging! Hillary is still ahead by 15 points, but just a few weeks ago Bernie was hardly a blip on the radar. He sure jumped up to 30.5% fast!

Really depends which poll you are looking at. According to a Fox poll Hillary is still leading the Dem field by 46 points so I don't think she is panicking yet. Grin

I expect this POTUS election to go as they usually do with neither side winning the popular vote by a landslide.

True, but it would be hard say that Sanders hasn't caught a pretty decent wave of momentum in a very short time. Just thought it was worth noting.

Like the baseball season it's still early -- Bernie will prove to be a well-liked "populist" candidate a la Fred Harris, Phil Crane, anon
-- great guy, great message -- don't see him catching on like a Eugene McCarthy or Harry S Truman/Jmmy Carter type-of populist candidate tho -- but all props to Sen. Sanders for getting his message out there

Another piece of bad news for the Donald...

NBCUniversal cuts ties with Donald Trump
NBCUniversal, succumbing to pressure from an array of Hispanic groups, is severing its business ties to presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The Miss USA pageant, scheduled for July 12, will no longer air on the network. Nor will the Miss Universe pageant, scheduled for next January. Both pageants were, until now, jointly owned by NBC and Trump.

"At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values," the company said in a statement. "Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."

Speaking to reporters after a campaign event in Chicago, Trump said he had enjoyed a "great" relationship with NBC but would not back down on his views about immigration. Trump told CNN correspondent Athena Jones that he may sue NBC.

NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast, had no comment on the lawsuit possibility. It is unclear whether NBC will seek to sell its stake in the Miss Universe Organization to Trump, or acquire Trump's stake from him, or seek another buyer.

It is also unclear where, if anywhere, the Miss USA pageant might be televised instead of NBC. Contestants from across the country have been preparing for months for the annual event.

The other major television broadcaster of the pageant, Univision, cancelled it last week due to Trump's involvement.

Monday's announcement by NBC followed a weekend's worth of legal conversations within the network, given the long-standing contractual relationship with Trump. The joint ownership of the pageants dates back more than a decade.

Eventually network executives decided that the split had to happen.

Hispanic advocates were calling for action

The Miss USA controversy stemmed from comments Trump made during his presidential campaign announcement two weeks ago.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best...They're sending people who have lots of problems," Trump said in the speech. "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some, I assume, are good people."

These comments caused a firestorm and widespread condemnations, particularly in the Hispanic community. Univision, the biggest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States, decided to end a five-year contract to air Miss USA and Miss Universe after only five months.

NBC was in a more complicated position because it jointly owned the pageants.

The network initially responded with a statement saying that Trump's opinions "do not represent those of NBC, and we do not agree with his positions on a number of issues, including his recent comments on immigration."

But that attempt to distance the network from Trump did not satisfy some Hispanic leaders.

Over the weekend a large number of Hispanic advocacy organizations urged NBC to follow Univision's lead.

And on Monday the National Association of Hispanic Journalists added its name to the list. Notably, the association is led by Mekahlo Medina, a reporter for NBC's local station in southern California.

Medina wrote, "[We] encourage NBC to acquire 100% ownership of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants and air those events without the shadow of such mistrust and fear Mr. Trump has created."

Petition gained more than 200,000 backers

Additionally, more than 215,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for a break-up.

The petition, created by Guillermo Castañeda Jr., called on the Peacock network to end the pageant airings.

Felix Sanchez, the chairman of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, said in an interview on Sunday that NBC's silence on the matter was getting deafening.

NBC attorneys, however, needed time to renew the company's contracts with Trump before pulling the plug on Monday.

Trump is also the face of NBC's "The Apprentice." Following his presidential announcement, NBC said it would "re-evaluate" Trump's role on the reality show.

On Monday, the network indicated that it wants to keep "Celebrity Apprentice" going, but without Trump as the host.

Production on the next season of the reality show is slated to begin in the fall. NBC's statement said "'Celebrity Apprentice' is licensed from Mark Burnett's United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue."

Don't get me wrong I am glad Bernie is challenging Hillary and hopefully will make her work for the nomination but he has about as much chance of winning the nomination as Trump does the GOP.

Unless there is a real scandal to bring down the Clinton juggernaut I don't see her working up a sweat for the nomination. Hillary might have over a billion dollars to campaign with and these days money talks. The best we can hope for is Bernie and hopefully a few of the others forcing her to state her platform.

Pretty scathing column from the conservative leaning Boston Herald...

Perigard: GOP contenders’ silence ?on Donald Trump speaks volumes

While NBC yesterday handed Donald Trump a pink slip over his outrageous comments about Mexicans earlier this month, the rest of the field of Republican presidential candidates is giving the blowhard a pass.

Quick: What’s the opposite of a profile in courage?

The now-former “Celebrity Apprentice” host seems nearly blind with anger over what he sees as the nation’s biggest crisis, its immigrant problem. In announcing his run for the GOP presidential nomination June 16, Trump said of Mexicans, “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists.”

He added, in what almost seemed like an afterthought, “And some, I assume, are good people.”

Considering that fellow GOP contender Jeb Bush is married to a Mexican immigrant, you’d think he’d have an opinion on this.

He does, kinda.

Asked by reporters yesterday about NBC’s decision to sever ties with Trump, Bush replied, “He’s worth $9 billion bucks, so he’ll be able to survive.”

Them’s fighting words. Wait — no, they’re not.

And Bush is the only Republican nominee to even lob softballs at Trump — the others haven’t even stepped up to the plate. Perhaps they believe that the easiest thing to do is to let a gasbag run down to fumes, but their silence is not leadership.

In cutting Trump, NBC said, “Respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values.”

The network will not air the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants, which are co-produced by NBC and Trump.

“Celebrity Apprentice” is expected to continue, but without Trump as host. Given Trump’s run for the White House, the network couldn’t have given him an hour every week to work a boardroom without giving equal time to the other candidates.

Reacting to his firing, the billionaire comb-over doubled down yesterday, threatening to tie up NBC in court and accusing the network of a double standard, for supporting disgraced news anchor Brian Williams.

Trump said, “They will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be.”

Actually, NBC hasn’t stood by Williams — it forced him on a public apology tour that bombed, gave his nightly anchor job to Lester Holt and buried him at sister cable station MSNBC, where he’ll be seen every full moon.

In his announcement speech, Trump promised America he’d be the jobs president, but he apparently can’t even hold his own.

And the broken business relationship with NBC leaves a programming void: Where will viewers go to watch young women parade in bathing suits and high heels and yearn for world peace?

Some desperate network will pick up the pageants. There’s always TLC.

After being forced to suspend the Duggars’ “19 Kids and Counting” over a child molestation scandal, the Donald’s racism will look downright wholesome.

Well, at least we know the Donald follows through on at least some promises. He has filed suit against Univision, and has even tried to tie in Hillary Clinton...

From the complaint:
“While Univision has claimed in the media that its decision to cut ties with MUO came in response to certain comments by Mr. Trump during a June 16, 2015 campaign speech announcing his candidacy for President of the United States, the decision was, in reality, a thinly veiled attempt by Univision, a privately held company principally owned by longtime Clinton Foundation donor and current Hillary Clinton fundraiser, Haim Saban, to suppress Mr. Trump’s freedom of speech under the First Amendment as he begins to campaign for the nation’s presidency and, in recent weeks, has dramatically risen in the polls while expressing critical views of Mrs. Clinton.”

Univision fired back:
“We just reviewed Mr. Trump’s complaint for the first time, and it is both factually false and legally ridiculous,” said the network in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “We will not only vigorously defend the case, but will continue to fight against Mr. Trump’s ongoing efforts to run away from the derogatory comments he made on June 16th about Mexican immigrants. Our decision to end our business relationship with Mr. Trump was influenced solely by our responsibility to speak up for the community we serve.”

So happy Trump is running, he seems more and more presidential every day. <---- sarcasm

Macy's dumps Donald Trump

By MJ Lee, CNN Politics and Finance Reporter
Updated 10:56 AM ET, Wed July 1, 2015

(CNN) Macy's is pulling Donald Trump brand merchandise from its stores after the Republican presidential candidate's recent controversial remarks created a public uproar.

The department store has come under intense pressure to cut ties with the real estate magnate and businessman after he referred to immigrants from Mexico and other countries "killers and rapists."

In a statement Wednesday morning, Macy's said the company "stands for diversity" and that it had no tolerance for discrimination.

"We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation," Macy's said. "In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy's values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy's since 2004."

Macy's carries a variety of Donald Trump brand attire, including dress shirts, neckties and cuff links. Trump has also appeared in Macy's commercials.

A MoveOn.org petition calling on Macy's to sever its relationship with Trump had collected well over 700,000 signatures as of Wednesday morning.

"Donald Trump does not reflect 'the magic of Macy's,'" the petition reads. "Macy's says it has a strong obligation to be 'socially responsible' and that 'actions speak louder than words.' Indeed. It's time to act."

This is not the first fallout for Trump, who launched his White House bid in mid-June.

Last week, Univision announced that it would cancel its telecast of the Miss USA pageant, which is partially owned by Trump, and that it would cut all business ties with him.

NBCUniversal, which had jointly owned the Miss USA pageant and Miss Universe pageant with Trump, has also severed its relationship with the brash White House candidate. Trump was also the host of "Celebrity Apprentice," which airs on NBC, and will no longer be a part of the reality TV show.

EDIT: Now Trump is sounding like a scorned boyfriend who was just dumped and responded by saying, "you can't dump me, because I'm dumping you first!" He also sounds a lot like alloak when he twists their position into a bold faced lie in saying that NBC and Macy's "support illegal immigration." What a train wreck.
