The Net Neutrality Debate

Let's see if we can have a rational discussion about something that should be near and dear to all of our hearts, open and unfettered access to the worldwide web... How many here agree with Ted Cruz when he called it "Obamacare for the Internet" (and he wasn't paying it a compliment) earlier today? Or do you agree with tech watchers like those at Gizmodo who called Cruz's stance "a disingenuous, chickenshit political maneuver and nothing more." Or are you somewhere in the middle? Personally, I am having a hard time deciding how I feel about this, but at this point I lean toward net neutrality as I think it is likely the better scenario for the consumer aka the American public. There is currently a lot of competiton among internet service providers which keeps the cost down and the services good for the consumer. It is the ONE industry where free enterprise is working properly. Naturally the government wants to regulate it which will probably mean the end of competition and a single provider per area like cable.

So right now the status quo is net neutrality because the government regulates throttling and different pricing tiers right?

Doug there is NOT a lot of competition among ISPs and prices have been skyrocketing. Cable television bills have nearly tripled in the last decade.
