I'm not stumpin' for Trump, but at his town hall meeting in Iowa he said that we were giving Iran a $154 million aid package which is why they were willing to negotiate and do the prisoner swap, including the Washington Post reporter. The other prisoner release of the sailors was also done just prior to this deal as a good will gesture on the part of the Iranians.

I don't know why we are giving them $154 million, I don't want to say bribe to keep the Straits of Hormuz open but that could be a consideration.

Donald Trump got it exactly right. Obama and Kerry are incompetent negotiators.

On the “swap” alone, Iran agreed to release 5 Americans, who had done nothing wrong, they were holding hostage.

The Obama administration, in return, agreed to release seven Iran nationals who were either jailed in the U.S. or facing charges, U.S. and Iranian officials said. The U.S. also agreed to drop the names of 14 Iranian nationals it has been seeking from the watch list of Interpol, the international police agency.

Most of these cases were tied to violations of U.S. export laws and the sales of dual-use equipment that could be used in Iran’s military or nuclear program, said the American officials.

So now the terrorists of the world know they can snatch Americans, hold them hostage for as long as they want and get a $100 billion dollar gift card to use for anything they want.

Iran won big time in this “deal” and The U.S. capitulated to their demands.

I don't think that they only recently learned they can snatch Americans and then do some sort of bargain/deal. Remember Iran contra we swapped weapons for hostages then. We have historically done swaps with them.

I for one am in favor or prisoner swaps, I don't think any hostages/prisoners need to face death in a foreign country. Countries trade spies, why not regular people? The idea of
we don't negotiate only means death for anyone captured in a foreign land either by immediate execution or in a prison. Why sentence someone who goes to a foreign land to do a job to that?
