Some months ago, I mentioned here that the efforts by House D's to impeach were ill advised. That was before the whole set of shame witnesses based their testimony on their opinions instead of anything factually substantial. Before that nice old guy Mueller got rolled out to take the Dem's heat, only to expose his failings, and leave his last public act one of shame instead of success.
So now, in the first Gallup poll of congressional approval since the impeachment farce, the GOP has risen past the Dem's...
GOP approval rises, Democrats fall post-impeachment in Gallup poll
A new Gallup poll finds congressional Republicans with a higher approval rating than Democrats in the wake of President Trump's impeachment and acquittal in the Senate.
Republicans get a 40 percent approval rating, compared to 35 percent for Democrats.
The Gallup poll found that since October, shortly after Democrats launched the impeachment inquiry, the approval rating for Republicans in the Gallup poll has gone up 6 points, from 34 percent to 40 percent. Democrats saw their approval rating fall over the same period from 38 percent to 35 percent.
The disapproval rating in the Gallup poll for Democrats rose from 57 percent to 62 percent.
The findings are also significant — since Gallup began polling of lawmakers in 1999, Democrats have tended to have a higher approval rating than Republicans.
Gallup wrote that the approval rating for Republicans has largely gone up because Republican and Republican-leaning respondents are giving them higher marks for their work.
Gallup also found that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had a 33 percent approval rating, the highest number he has achieved since the pollster started rating him in 2010. McConnell's figures largely rose on the strength of Republicans, perhaps because they favored his handling of the impeachment fight. His rating among Republicans and Republican-leaning respondents rose 15 points.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) approval number remained roughly the same at 39 percent, though her unfavorable rating rose from 50 percent in October to 55 percent now.
The Gallup poll was conducted Feb. 17–28 with a random sample of 1,020 adults living throughout the U.S. and was compared to data collected in October. The poll has a margin of error of 4 percentage points and a 95 percent confidence level.
The House impeachment inquiry began in late September and went on into December, when the articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate.
After a nearly three-week trial in the Senate, Trump was acquitted on both charges almost entirely along partisan lines.
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), the sole Republican who voted to convict Trump on one impeachment charge, found his general approval ratings remain the same, largely due to higher approval from Democrats surveyed and an equal dip in approval from Republicans.
More Democrats give Romney a favorable rating than do Republicans in the Gallup survey.

Of the witnesses, none provided real proof. It was all hearsay, and their opinion of what should have been the correct course of action. Well, the voters didn't get to choose them to decide that course. The President does that. It seemed like most were chafing at the fact that a new President wanted something different. Too bad. But Sondland was the real key to unraveling the bs when he said that Trump told him he wanted "nothing" from the Ukrainians. I give him credit for being honest, though that call was probably recorded somewhere.
The insane histrionics put on by the Dem "prosecutors" during the Senate trial was beyond belief. Schiff, et al, going on and on about how our support for the brave little Ukrainians was the key to holding back the Russian scourge, while the President fiddled with his personal vendetta. Where were these clowns just a few years ago when the past President would only send blankets and band aids to the Ukraine? Trump has ok'd serious anti-tank Javelin missiles and sniper systems. Bu..bu..but he's Putin's stooge, so why is he approving the sale of lethal weapons to Russia's enemy? More horse dumpings....
As to flipping the House, I dunno. Trump's numbers in unopposed primaries are far outpacing Republican turnout in past cycles. So if the energy keeps up, they might pull it off.

Take a look at the testimony. Listen to the words of a career military hero, Colonel Vindman. Listen to the testimony of David Holmes.
I suspect that you don't believe any of charges that were brought against Trump were valid and had basis & that he wasn't acting and using gov't power and a personal attorney intertwined with gov't officials for his personal political protections and not acting on the best interests of the USA. So the easy thing to to do is dismiss witness testimony and discredit.
If Trump is so innocent and transparent as he claims, explain why he wouldn't let his inner circle (example - Mulvaney & Pompeo) testify.

Why is this even a topic? The impeachment trial concluded w/o any witnesses so the only record of facts was under-oath testimony in HOR hearings & documents. Other subpoened witnesses were ordered by the defendant not to appear & testify "or else." The only other time I've seen that happen is mob trials when the don or one of his sons was on trial. There was sufficient "real proof" that some GOP senators said "he did it, but it's not worth tossing him out of office" & 1 GOP senator had the guts to vote against the McConnell machine.

Given that they had no witnesses, the house managers presented what OBJECTIVE legal scholars deem to be an almost perfect summary of the facts. The only "insane histrionics" were from the defense - specifically Alan Dershowitz who literally made up quotes from the constitution & spewed legal arguments that were, indeed, deemed "insane" by legal scholars. Even the defense was embarrassed & didn't allow him in the chamber much less sit at their table the next day.
Trump was not removed from office nor was he expected to be. Some thought he'd at least learn a lesson in deportment & decorum, but instead he's been emboldened. He's been free to fire & lie & denigrate women SCOTUS justices & spin the truth.

So far all I have heard on the news is the latest on COVID-19 progress. I don't watch cable but pretty much get the same info flow as everyone else. I would be interested to hear where you all are getting all this Democrat COVID-19 hype from.

If you don't want a POTUS from your party to be impeached, don't nominate someone with a known proclivity for bending/breaking laws/rules and a disregard for the standards to which previous presidents have adhered.

As for impeachment, the advice would also be don't elect senators who are so beholden to, cowardly, or intimated by the WH threats that they march in lockstep w/the Majority Leader.
