Curious to see if everyone really disagrees on as many of today's issues as the corporate press would have us believe.

Answer these questions, yes or no, and let's see.

1. Do you want to pay higher taxes?

2. Do you prefer peace over war?

3. Do you think the government should have unfettered warrantless access to your personal information and communications?

4. Do you think our public education system is adequate?

5. Do you think corporations and lobbyists have too much influence over our government?

6. Do you think the government should have the goal of trying to find ways to reduce military spending and use that money for other programs or tax cuts that are beneficial to its citizenry?

7. On the whole, meaning regardless of which party is in power, do you trust the government?

The path to achieve goals is what divides the left from right, not the goals themselves

If the left is right, then the right is left. Left, Left, Left Right Left, until no rights are left.

Left wing, right wing, same old flightless dirty bird, going the way of the dodo.

Answer these questions, yes or no, and let's see.

1. Do you want to pay higher taxes? Absolutely not, The Gov't can not manage the money they already take from us.

2. Do you prefer peace over war? Depends on what is at stake.

3. Do you think the government should have unfettered warrantless access to your personal information and communications? No way, no how.

4. Do you think our public education system is adequate? NO. But the Feds need to stay the hell out of it.

5. Do you think corporations and lobbyists have too much influence over our government?. Yes. Term limits.

6. Do you think the government should have the goal of trying to find ways to reduce military spending and use that money for other programs or tax cuts that are beneficial to its citizenry? No. And NO to additional "programs"....

7. On the whole, meaning regardless of which party is in power, do you trust the government?. No.

Was hoping for more answers but Big V's still make the point. V and I have disagreed over some things on the Whipping Post forum (Don't recall ever disagreeing on any of the music related ones) so I know we have different opinions and feel strongly about them and yet, we agree 6 out of 7 here.

This is an example of why I think the left/right presentation of issues is so destructive. I think too many of us have been brainwashed by this. Both left and right are right where the other is wrong yet there are no is very little constructive understanding and conversation because we've all been programed to have a visceral emotional reaction when the side we identify with is wrong.

Would be fun to run a national news channel and focus on issues with debates that involve experts and NO politicians.

You are absolutely barking up the right tree, I think. The whole left vs. right thing is a distraction, and serves more to divide. The extremists of the right and left tend to stereotype these positions, for most of us who are somewhere in the middle it makes it difficult to think for ourselves on issues. When any question or speculation automatically sets you in concrete as some ridiculous extreme stereotype it creates a chilling effect on individual thought.

Exactly. It's astounding to me how many people do not see this for what it is.

The path to achieve goals is what divides the left from right, not the goals themselves

for many / most issues, true

and, like the above posts said, most of us are in the middle and think that compromise is a reasonable, mature thing to do.
unfortunately, Congress is filled by people who think that compromise is a dirty word, and party power is actually more important than helping the country
