Strange times we live in!

Where did we go wrong? This is truly madness!
JFK assassination - that was the point of no return
IMO it all went horribly wrong in Vietnam. Daily lies to the public became the norm. Worse, less than 20 years after the end of the war (58,000+ died), the US lifted its ban on tourism there (1992). Luxury tour operators have been making $$$$ with 2019 expect to perform even better than 2018. Marriott has a luxury island hotel w/butler for each room & daily champagne breakfasts. Why were we there again?
1968 was when things went off the rails - MLK, RFK assassinations, Chicago Dem Convention, Columbia Univ protests - culminating in Nixon's win.

???? I don't get this at all! Am headed there next year, #1 on bucket list - been saving looking forward to it for 20 years. Great place, good people, beautiful landscapes, good food, love the music, literature, fascinating history - even learning a bit of the language. Interested to hear why you think Americans should not be allowed to travel to Viet Nam?

Not to forget Dan Rather being pummeled and pushed to the ground at the Dem convention.

It's a perfectly fine place to travel.
My point - in response to "where did it all go wrong question" - is that Vietnam ripped the country apart (sort of MAGA v. Dems x 100), 3-4 prez lied to the US as to why we were there & that we were "winning," & vets were treated like lesser mortals upon return. 15 or so years later, it's like "Turns out saving South Vietnam WASN'T so important to global democracy that we needed to stay there until hell froze over; let's go over there & party down because there are all kinds of biz opportunities."
Now - 50 years later - it's just another tourist destination.

I haven't seen anything on the news, so I'd like to find out which charity he allegedly) stole from. Please post link.
Old news. This goes back to the dissolution of The Trump Foundation in 2018 for funneling $ to his campaign, paying off TO debts, & buying a portrait for his club = stealing aka misappropriation. Despite vowing to fight the charges, Trump ADMITTED WRONGDOING & settled the case last month and was approved by a judge last week. The $2mm in damages is in addition to whatever was left in the Fund & will be paid to 7 non-profits unrelated to any of the Trumps.
The concession from the NYS AG was that Trump isn't barred from ever running a non-profit again & the 3 Ivana kids are allowed to serve on non-profit boards after taking "training."

You'd think this alone would be enough to sway many people not to vote for him, but instead it's just a normalcy of what is expected from Trump along with racism, subverting our intel agencies & the DOJ, playing up to Russia, the shenanigans in Ukraine, closing down the government, trade tariffs, etc.
All good actions and all fine with his supporters.

I get your angle now - good points.

Trump knows his base - he could shoot a gun on 5th Ave & he'd be praised.
What's truly maddening - saying this as a lifelong Dem - is that even if an "anyone but Hillary" voter was willing to vote against him, the Dems haven't come up w/a palatable candidate. I refused to pay any attention to the 2020 election until Nov. 2019 because it's boring (to me) to watch a string of people prance & implode until someone there's someone legit. Now that the time is here, I'm going to have to postpone my attention to August & the convention to prevent brain damage.

The advent of numerous news outlets hasn’t been helpful - they have to compete for higher ratings than the others & in that ongoing quest for viewers/listeners & $$$$, information becomes slanted, skewed, sensationalized & ultimately inaccurate IMO - not always but too often still
Couldn't you see this happening between CNN and Fox News after 9/11? I hope you aren't just realizing this now because Trump is tweeting about it. More importantly, it's quite easy to avoid fake news - it's easy to spot, and easy to find legit news outlets. It's a personal choice to pay attention to the tabloids. It's only an issue today because fighting and drama is what a large portion of our country wants. They don't want non-biased reporting of facts. The good news, is that these folks who eat it up, make competition in the workforce a lot easier.
You can’t miss the tabloids standing in the checkout line, they’re always good for a chuckle - recent copy showed an upset garish looking Joan Collins, headline “Joan To Sue Plastic Surgeon After Botched Facelift,” w/tears coming down a face that looked like a billy goat had chewed on it
They’ve always thrived, but yes, these are strange times we live in
