Slow news day, it's all Romney vs Trump

Romney's 1/1/19 Washington Post op-ed:
It surprises no one the kind of feelings Romney has towards Trump, he has voiced such before.
But here is what I am wondering...Trump endorsed him, and Romney accepted. If you wanted to step out on your own, distance yourself from Trump, why not do it then? No, instead he accepted the endorsement. Rejecting the endorsement then would've taken balls, and character. What Mitt has done now is just grand standing, positioning as the new Republican Trump dissenter so he can be the go-to interview for all things anti-Trump within the party. Romney is just another clown at the circus.

@realDonaldTrump.@MittRomney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah. He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to @OrrinHatch, and has my full support and endorsement!

@MittRomneyThank you Mr. President for the support. I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah.

They are all a pack of backstabbing bastards.

I'm not going to fault Romney for accepting Trump's endorsement. I have to wonder if Romney is positioning himself for a run against Trump in 2020? He seems to be one of only a handful of Republicans who have the balls to stand up to Trump. At this point, it doesn't seem like the mahority of Republicans care about Trump's lying and generally being a pile of turds. The Republican party has fundementally changed, and the conservative family values party is now the white nationalist party. I once thought they could go back, but I don't think so anymore.

I used to have some bit of respect for Romney. However his on again off again love affair with Trump is a turnoff. Romney torched Trump during the primaries with blistering criticism, but then practically got down on his knees begging to be Secretary Of Estate. He didn't get that, but now after becoming a senator, he's back to bashing Trump.
Romney is little more than an opportunist.
I don't see him or any other Republican taking Trump out in a primary due to Trump's base. The only thing that can take out Trump is SDNY, Mueller, or impeachment.

Romney is little more than an opportunist.
He didn't say anything new, either - bemoaned the lack of "character." DJT is EXACTLY the same person today as he was in the primaries and the decades before that.
