First of all, a politician dodging a question is headline worthy? Really?

But Walker is right....100%. That's a question politicians shouldn't be involved with one way or another. If they were really interested they would go ask a professor or a scientist.

In the coming months every effort will be made to drag GOP candidates into this crap. Don't go. They want red meat. Don't give it to them. Don't let the conversation be steered away from the pressing issues. Walker didn't let it and others should take note.

"The GOP has no official position on ____________."

Next......

So Walker not answering questions is the proper way to go about it.
Clinton not answering questions is all wrong.

OK.

__________________________________________________________________

Gov. Walker knows better than to answer a gotcha question.
Hillary answers no questions except whether she buys her pantsuits at Saxs or T.J. Maxx.
Her answer was the former.

Gotcha questions? Seriously? If he can't answer the simple questions that were soft tossed to him, how can he possibly answer questions about today's world and politics.

I realize I am responding to a guy who thinks "What color is the sky?" Is a gotcha question and won't answer it. 😛

_________________________________________________________________

Your ignorance is showing again.

It is not whether he can or can not answer the question.
The point is that particular question is a long played gotcha question in politics and he had the prowess to move past it.

The color of the sky depends on the time of day.

If he won't answer a simple question as to whether he believes in evolution, he doesn't deserve to be in public office. Is he afraid of his beliefs?

The term "gotcha question" was created by Sarah Palin who couldn't even answer what newspapers she read. No wonder you like the term. 😛

"The term "gotcha question" was created by Sarah Palin"

The term has been around in politics since long before Gov. Palin was born.

I don't think you are correct. It didn't enter the modern political parlance until Palin used it as a way to deflect from her inability to answer hard hitting questions like, "What newspapers do you read?" and "Why didn't you finish your term as Governor?"

Katie Couric's facial expressions on the link MartinD28 posted are priceless.

I'd really like to discuss ideas about what is best for the country and not personal attacks or what s best for one party or another. What are w going to do about our disappearing middle class, which is the backbone of our economic, and therefore political system?

Well, the way not to help the middle class is to go after the unions - like Walker did in Wisconsin and now Rauner is doing in Illinois............

Show us how unions helped the carmakers and the City of Detroit.

Everyone seems to want to put the government bailouts on the unions, but take a deeper look at this. GM was a oversized bloated company with so much redundancy and top heavy management that they were basically competing with themselves. One of the things the government insisted on was for them to streamline. They eliminated the Oldsmobile and Saturn lines, got rid of redundant management and became a viable company again. Meanwhile, Ford did not have all of that excess and had basically the same UAW contract that GM had and they did not need a bailout.

You seem to have not mentioned the main reason GM got in financial trouble.
Their GMAC division went all in the sub-prime mortgage fiasco in which they lost hundred of millions of dollars.

The government bailout saved union jobs but the investors got nothing but screwed.

I don't know if that was the main reason, but was certainly a contributing factor. And that had nothing to do with the unions, which was the point I was making to Alloak. The GMAC problems fall squarely on the shoulders of management.

That's fair. There is blame to go around and it shouldn't all fall on the unions.
GM needed streamlining and came out stronger on the other side.

The problem I have with unions in general is their tendency to make unreasonable/
unsustainable demands. Then again, if management is stupid enough to cave into
those demands, who's fault is that?

P.S. -- I wish government would take it's own advice and start streamlining.

You do realize that the federal government has eliminated almost 200,000 jobs under Obama, right?

Let me add to your above point. Many times in government as well as in the private sector, elimination of jobs and /or downsizing doesn't necessarily equate to streamlining. The ability to draw a straight line between two points or to re-engineer processes in such a way to achieve better efficiencies results in true streamlining.

I've consulted to both the private & public sector and have witnessed inefficiencies in both. We were able to go in and make recommendations and change systems / operations that resulted in efficiencies, save $, improve the bottom line, and provide for better worker morale and understandings of job functionality.

Home Run.

I disagree. It was a foul ball. Instead of keeping the discussion on Walker and why he answered the way he did, the writer used the false equivalence of how Obama has answered completely different questions. It read like most threads in here. Grin

The left-wing N.Y. Times tries to trash Gov. Scott Walker, screws it up. The cut in State aid to public schools came during Jim Doyle’s tenure as Governor, a democrat.

New York Times corrects Scott Walker column

By Nick Gass - 2/16/15 12:22 PM EST

In hindsight, perhaps the headline “Scott Walker Needs An Eraser” wasn’t the best idea.
In a recent column about the Wisconsin governor, a conservative Republican, New York Times columnist Gail Collins wrote that Walker had cut state aid to education, causing teacher layoffs in 2010. But Walker didn’t take office until 2011.

Whoops.

Conservative news sites had a field day with the error over the weekend, with The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack calling out the (since deleted and corrected, but archived) mistaken section in question.

Collins wrote that Walker’s recent speech in Iowa was all about “waging war on public employee unions, particularly the ones for teachers.” She cited the case of a Claudia Felske, who took issue with Walker’s characterization of the layoffs.

Walker told reporters last week in London that Felske, who was named one of the state’s teachers of the year in 2010, is making a “petty distinction.”

Jud Lounsbury at The Daily Kos first called details from the governor’s anecdote into question last month.

Collins did not reply to an email seeking comment.

They don't know what to do with Walker. Although be might appear bland and even maybe a
little dorky in appearance, as soon as he begins to speak it's a whole different story.

His comments are clear, concise, intelligent, and eloquent. No stammering, stuttering, or searching
for the right words. He comes right out with it. He's not the type that needs to be "coached up."

Agree or disagree with his philosophies, the guy is SOLID.

I could think of a lot of other less complimentary ways to describe the Koch Brothers owned Scott Walker.

He will not be the GOP nominee, alloak. I'd wager $100 with you on this, but based on previous attempts at challenging you on your high regard for candidates & my thinking they go nowhere, I know you won't step up to the plate.
