Pretty professional pay for someone taking care of amateurs who can’t share in the profits. Kinda nuts in a Kardashian sort of way

The system is f*cked, no doubt about it....The profiteering by adults off the work of young people is getting worse every year. Just look what's become of little league and high schools sports.

I suggest watching the episode of HBO's Real Sports from a few months ago to get an idea of just how absurd the entire system of amateur sports in this nation has become.

As long as none of the athletes themselves get any of the profit, that's all that matters.

What is even more ridiculous is the top public school chancellor/president salaries reportedly top out at about $1.5M, which is comparable to what the 60th highest paid basketball coach gets (according to this list). I love sports, but when you factor in what it costs to go to a public school and how little college instructors get paid, it's clear that public universities have their priorities out of whack. Athletics and that environment is part of the draw (I was in the stadium when Ron Dayne broke Ricky Williams' record, it was awesome), but it would be nice to see states themselves address coaching salaries. However, there has been a college athletics arms race for decades and it's not easy to put the genie back in the bottle.

As with most things in society today its all about money. Athletics bring a ton of cash in. And the parents endorse it. They pregame with their kids in the parking lot and get caught up in the sports rah-rah. I'm a Duke graduate (so old I precede them being good in basketball) and it is now a tradition for students to live in tent cities awaiting ticket sales for bball games. As a 19 year old I would have been for it; as a parent I am aghast that parents of students think its cool. There is supposed to be a divide between your thought at 20 and at 60.
