The mother’s body was recovered, son still missing
The current they got into must have been incredibly potent - it was blowing straight out from shore pushing them out into the bay into choppier & choppier water
They had gone to retrieve a kickball that had inadvertently gone into the water, so likely weren’t wearing lifejackets
Canoe overturned, & maybe they got caught in a rip current of some sort - she was found 2 1/2 miles away in 25 feet of water, article said

Very brutal news, I live about 12 miles off the Southern tip of Lake Michigan, it is a constant danger here.........Peace.......joe
