PRESIDENTS ARE NOT KINGS

A federal judge has emphatically told Trump and put all of America on notice that presidents aren't kings, don't have subjects, and aren't owed blood loyalty. Government employees work for the US not the president personally. Trump was surprised to learn this in his first few weeks in office as he fully expected to wield the same authority in the WH as he does in Trump Tower (over his blood subjects Don Jr, Ivanka, & whatshisname). He didn't quit as I expected but bluffed on determined to defy any restraints on his power. After 3 years, judges are finally telling him & his sycophants that they can't hide behind Trump's theory of governance. I'd like to think this is a game-changer for Congressional Republicans as a reminder of just what their job is, but I doubt it.
It's worth citing the key paragraphs from a 119 page opinion as to whether the WH can override a subpoena - it can't..
Stated simply, the primary takeaway from the past 250 years of recorded American history is that Presidents are not kings. [Citations.]This means that they do not have subjects, bound by loyalty or blood, whose destiny they are entitled to control. Rather, in this land of liberty, it is indisputable that current and former employees of the White House work for the People of the United States, and that they take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Moreover, as citizens of the United States, current and former senior-level presidential aides have constitutional rights, including the right to free speech, and they retain these rights even after they have transitioned back into private life. To make the point as plain as possible, it is clear to this Court for the reasons explained above that absolute immunity from compelled congressional process simply does not exist.
Thus, for the myriad reasons laid out above as well as those that are articulated plainly in the prior precedents of the Supreme Court, the D.C. Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, this Court holds that individuals who have been subpoenaed for testimony by an authorized committee of Congress must appear for testimony in response to that subpoena—i.e., they cannot ignore or defy congressional compulsory process, by order of the President or otherwise.

Waiting for Trump to criticize the judge for anything...maybe the judge's heritage or possibly for not upholding loyalty to him.

If that judge would have said anything other the rule of law would have been gone. If someone can ignore a subpoena our country would have been over...That would have opened the door for anyone to ignore one. The precedence that would have set would come to destroy everything this country is about.

He's tweeting that he was fighting for FUTURE presidents & the office of president itself. Otherwise, he WANTS people like patriot Bolton & McGahn & others to testify. In the meantime, the DOJ is, of course, appealing the ruling.

Precisely what the judge said in her opinion. Some people in question no longer work for the WH; they're private citizens w/o the "fiction" of executive protection.
Although it ultimately only really matters to people like me who still believe in the legal system, I found this very straightforward no-nonsense opinion in which every single defense argument is thoughtfully shredded by repeatedly going back to the Federalist papers, Founding Fathers, the constitution, precedent (both rightly & wrongly decided) & debunking the myth that DOJ memos are law to be one sign that the judiciary is still hanging in no matter how corrupt the Executive branch or inept the legislative branch become. She wrote in very plain, explicit language to make her point. No prior judge has stated the obvious - presidents aren't kings & repeating anything doesn't make it so.

I can't believe that a judge actually had to say that.

Of course Trump wants them to testify - not in a million years. They know enough to bury him. He says $hit like this all the time for the cameras; just like he wanted to testify before Mueller, and that never happended. His legal team wouldn't let that happen because they know he'd lie & step in it w/in the first 5 minutes. I would think a first year law school student could shred Trump on testimony.

I can't believe that a judge actually had to say that.
Are you kidding? I can only imagine the number of certain things people in The Don's circle have had to say/explain to him.

He's right on cue w/his predictable response - lies. I suppose if/when "patriot" Bolton testifies he'll become a hack who Trump barely knew.

Why do they bother, he has zero comprehension.

A monarch, an emperor, a king, a dictator, a premier (what Russia used to have)
....many feel Trump fancies himself as all those things in disregarding all things American
Impeachment goes to judiciary level next week (unsure what that means)
A political power struggle for the ages is coming down the pike that will directly affect campaign/election season

In a few years, most red hats will deny they ever liked or supported Trump.
We can only hope. It is either that or they will be thronging to the coronation of the Idiot King, and burning witches.

A political power struggle for the ages is coming down the pike
It is already happening. Been obvious to me for years now, the Redhats are done with democracy, they want a king. They will never come right out and say it, but they would be perfectly happy with a one party state and their president for life.

He doesn't know or care about government, but I thought he cared about himself. At least one TV show/day does a montage of him contradicting himself on camera - "I knew him well," "I never heard of the guy," "He's like my brother," "What did you say his name was?" - on almost every topic, including weather. Now, I think he believes (and is probably correct) that the Redhats don't care that he pivots. They'll vote for him no matter what.

Then when you point out any of this stuff you are insulting the president and are mad Hilary Clinton lost, so leave the country.

Well, she may have lost, but she's going to win me $100 in my charity challenge. So far only one HC hater has taken up the challenge believing she will enter the race. Not happening. Still waiting for any other right wingers to step up to the plate.
Any suggestions for what charity I should donate the winnings to?

It will intensify - the field of contenders will thin out, rhetoric will heat up as candidates seek vote$, Pres. Trump will intensify his re election campaign at the same time the impeachment panel is amping up its activities
....& what about Republican contenders - any in-party challengers
So yeah, those clouds right now will become the perfect 2020 storm says this political meteorologist:shaddup: -
hopefully not to leave in its wake, too much....lingering ill will, but a new partisan-free pride & patriotism:word: - after all we’re all Americans, & happy Thanksgiving holiday to all

I can't believe it wasn't said when FDR was president.

??? Both of my parents all of my uncles, aunts and grandparents lived through the great depression and many including my father served in WWII. FDR took this country through the great depression, liberated Europe and created the new deal and set this country on a path of growth that was only ruined by Republican administrations and Republican polices. While Democratic admins put the pieces back together again for growth as been seen multiple times in my life.

Pretty much the same thing here. Mine and my wife's parents lived through the depression. My maternal grandparents lived through the same. My paternal granddad lived through Reconstruction, along with his family.
My Dad, a 100% disabled WWII vet. My father-in-law a triple veteran Navy-National Guard-Army.
FDR felt he should be president until he no longer wanted the position. He did the US an injustice about Pearl Harbor when he knew the attack was going to happen as much as three days before it happened, and he ran as "Working to keep America out of the war in Europe" while lending aid to Britain and France, thus getting American ships sank while carrying the cargo.
During his third and fourth campaigns he lost a good deal of his support from Democrats due to his breaking the tradition of only running for two terms.
But, he actually did become president for life since he died at Warm Springs, Ga, and he wasn't posing for a portrait at the time.

It was surprising he was elected to a fourth term given how frail his health was at the time - as you said he was truly a president for life - re elected a third time while all but on his death bed

Trump was surprised to learn this in his first few weeks in office as he fully expected to wield the same authority in the WH as he does in Trump Tower (over his blood subjects Don Jr, Ivanka, & whatshisname).
The Left is turning into the most humorless, bitter, hair-triggered reactionaries in political history. And Trump has been playing them and calling the dance since the beginning of his campaign. Anyone who hasn't learned that he's trolling his opponents with outrageous statements just to see them spin really needs to check their sense of humor.
And after 3-4 years, its obvious the Left has learned nothing. The recent tweet of Trump's head on Rocky's body - and the reaction of the Left - just proves it...
If people can't see this as a guy gas-lighting his opponents to expose their lack of common sense, they're missing the point. The fact that they fall into the trap over and over should be proof enough they're not smart enough to be trusted.

That is quite a strategy, act like an idiot to get a reaction from the left. Seems to be working, because his fans stick with him no matter what dumb things he says. The only question is whether the swing voters care. Is 40% favorability rating enough to win the electoral college? I guess it all depends on what a few thousand swing voters think in a half dozen states.

You've got to remember that some who voted for him was that they couldn't stand to think of a Hillary Clinton presidency.
If the Democrats hadn't rigged the election by voting Trump in the primaries (remember all those who switched from Dem to GOP during the primaries?) there more than likely would have been different candidates from BOTH parties.

It's hard to believe that a grown man believes that youtube and Twitter represent the views of an entire political party. Talk about stupidity bro. Put your phone down and go out and talk to people.
Where did I define the Left as a political party? I'm hoping that the Dems have more sanity than what we see with the far left antics on campuses, in some cities, and on the crazy leftwing news. But its harder and harder to tell anymore looking at the slate of candidates they have running for President, or by the actions of their representatives in Congress. When even Obama is issuing warnings to his own party, you know something is tragically wrong.
