Under President Trump’s leadership and orders ISIS has been defeated in Iraq and Syria

What is left if ISIS is trapped in a small sliver of land between Iraq and Syria and is under a surrender or die situation.

Meanwhile, the threat stiil exists.

LONDON — The Islamic State's so-called caliphate ends 2017 in tatters.

But after a year in which U.S.-backed forces drove ISIS militants from strongholds in Iraq and Syria, the group is far from defeated.

Analysts warn that ISIS is retreating into what some call a “virtual caliphate" from where it will attempt to inspire more lone wolf attacks in the West in an effort to remain relevant.

“It’s like a cornered cat that will lash out indiscriminately and viciously to save itself,” said Peter Vincent, a counterterrorism expert and former Department of Homeland Security official. “The war has yet to be won, and if it’s ever going to be won it’s going to take many more years, and many more civilians will lose their lives."

Meanwhile, ISIS is still a threat.

An army that is still fighting is not defeated.

Atleast he isn't planning a victory ceremony on an air craft carrier, I guess, right?

Radical Islamic Terrorism, unfortunately and tragically, is likely going to remain a deadly problem for nations around this globe for the rest of our lifetimes I fear.

That isn't meant to take away this accomplishment, I'm thankful for the US military and our allies to keep taking the fight to this enemy, keeping them off balance and vulnerable to defeat wherever they seek to establish operations. The more difficult it is made for the enemy, the less effective they will hopefully be.

So the articles say that Iraqi forces removed ISIS from Iraq and Iranian forces removed ISIS from Syria, and we have no ground troops in either country, and you want to give Trump credit for this? Maybe if this is such a major victory in your opinion you should send a letter on congratulations to the president of Iran.

The United States has no ground troops in either Syria or Iraq? What?

How about 1720-2000 in Syria and over 5000 in Iraq.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/06/world/middleeast/us-troops-syria.html
https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2017/12/01/566798632/under-trump-u-s-troops-in-war-zones-are-on-the-rise

Some of them may be advisory roles and some of them in other support roles, but surely there are armed US military troops on the ground fighting. Or you say not?

Remember when we "cut and ran" from Iraq and all that were left in Iraq for our troops were instructors? We were asked to leave under agreement with the government of Iraq and the troops left were not ground troops as we think of them. We may have done some bombing, but does Trump deserve all the credit for this? Maybe he does and I'm underestimating the greatness of Trump and his magical powers to win wars without having fighting ground forces.

2112, just remember I try to be a reasonable person...unlike some other posters you might be thinking of.

We know the "cut on run" that President Obama is often blamed for was really part of the scheduled withdrawl from Iraq under Bush. Obama could've negotiated something different if he choose, but that wasn't his position and going back to the later Bush years, it wasn't the desire of the Iraqi government.

We also know that in 2014 conditions changed and what started as sending a couple hundred military advisors to Iraq, has consistently, and considerably grown to it's present day figure of several thousand. And they are there, not just coordinating and assisting, but they are shooting.

So if somebody wanted to they could play either side of the fence. You know the line from the right, the vacuum left in Iraq saw the birth of ISIS...thanks to Obama. And you know the line from the left, why don't you blame Bush who signed the agreement with the Iraqi government to withdraw?

In reality, I think it would've been wise for the Obama Administration to push hard with the Iraqi government to keep some significant level of troops in Iraq. Iraq didn't want it, but there could've ben ways to change their mind...like withholding aid or reconstruction money. But it wasn't a politically strong position for Obama to take and it would've gone against his personal beliefs as well. With the benefit of hindsight, had we stayed the growth of ISIS likely would've been different, but I didn't want US Troops there indefinitely either, so at some point you are going to leave and what happens then anyway?

Does Trump deserve credit? Well Presidents get blame and credit for alot of things they don't necessarily deserve, it is par for the course.

President Trump’s defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria is one of the two most under-reported stories of 2017. Hardly surprising for the corrupt liberal media but the effect on the war on terrorism is huge and the best news in over eight years.

The next steps, already underway, are varied and dispersed much like the terrorists themselves. Thousands of ISIS fighters have fled to Libya which, after the Hillary Clinton and Obama fiasco there has become a terrorist safe-zone, for now.

Here's how much ground ISIS has lost since Trump took over

I did alot of back-reading on this yesterday. While everyone is cautious to stop short of calling the US Troops there in an active combat role, there definitely has been an escalation with how, what and where the US Troops are being utilized in both Syria and Iraq.

During the Obama years they were explicitly said to be there for training and guidance, but there were special forces and commando raids that occurred.

Now US Troops have been more embedded with the actual local ally forces that are going the physical fighting. US Soldiers have taken fire and returned it.

I'm not going to say that Trump is responsible for it, but we do know what his campaign rhetoric was. I'm not out to credit him for this, I'm just happy that those dirty pieces of shit are taking losses. I will say this, that Trump couldn't have claimed this had the Obama Administration not already undertaken their policy and placed assets within both countries. Although, there have been more deployments this year than the previous years. People are going to draw what they want from this. Naturally Trump supporters will claim success and Trump haters will claim BS. Naturally. It would seem to me that Trump may deserve some credit, which he and his supporters will ofcourse roll around in like a pig in shit which will make the haters more angry and make them want to deny more.

As most of us here have said, it is still going to be a very long and drawn out and difficult fight vs this enemy no matter where they are. The more fractures the US and our allies can deliver to them is only for the better.

You "just" proved my point.

As for "massive success", I haven't seen anything our president has done yet. Like any administration, I'd suggest waiting until 2-3 years down the road for any substantive results. It's similar to a college football coach's tenure.

Syria is not stabilized and just this past week Turkey and Jordan want to join forces to create a border securing their countries from Syrian aggression. They do not want the US to be part of that scenario. The war is not done in Syria, not will it be. Prophetically, when Jesus does return, it will be even worse that it was at the beginning of the current war. The world army of 80,000 troops will be hunting Jesus down, but he will be in full war mode, with some mujahiddeen assisting him and the battle of Armageddon will be played out just as it was explained to the rightly guided Muslims, as well as the rightly guided Christians. WHEN? Well first the anti-Christ has to rise, and assume power over the world, and be sitting in Jesus's house in Jerusalem.

The new testament speaks about one man who will rise and destroy all dominion (it is in Corinthinians) (power/governments), that will be the anti-Christ, he will tempt those who accept his deception, then in the end he hands the world over back to God. God agreed to all this because Satan offered to weed out the kingdom separating the bad from the good, and God liked that idea, so he agreed and told him in effect, show me what you can do.

You were told there would be physical things and signs in the world, yet most cast it off when they see it. Hurricanes, earthquakes, pandemic flu, diseases, starvation. WHen the big quake hits California, do not ask WHY does he let this happen. He told you things like that would happen, so that people would run to him and return to him. That's why.

Syria will not be tamed or won. Assad did not invite us there, does not want us there, and the prophecies will be fulfilled whether CNN knows about it or not.
