Laura Ingraham immediately butted in "you're not comparing it to golf because you know what they will say".

Everyone always having to explain what Trump really means.

I just think he is not intelligent enough to come up with a better analogy of "choking", or not keeping your cool in the heat of the moment. To him, the first thing that comes to mind is missing a putt in golf...that must be the most pressure packed situation he has ever found himself in.
