None of that changes anything. The trophies stay in the case. The rings stay on the fingers. If some people outside of the New England area look back with a wary eye, so what? Does it matter when people look back at the Raider teams of the 70s and 80s? They took shortcuts and flat out cheated and a lot of those guys were steroid-jakked to the gills. All those trophies are still in that case.
I wondered in the run up what effect this may have on Belichick's legacy, then I realized he could obviously care less.
As to poor Tom being picked on, again, so what? It's obvious that he and Belichick went up to the podium to deny, deny, deny...which was excellent advice given the circumstances. They were both masterful in their press conferences, and I'm serious about that. Handled it peferctly and beautifully.
Now, as far as Brady acting as if the mere idea of adjusting the PSI on a football within or out of the bounds of the rules was something he never knew about until that day, I don't believe that at all. Belichick has been in the NFL since 1975 and acted as if he didn't even know that footballs had air in them.
But again, what I think doesn't mean a thing.
Patriot fans and Boston fans in general really enjoy rubbing the winning in other people's faces. That's beyond obvious...and that isn't going to harvest any sympathy at all.
You guys won and everyone else sucks. We get it. Enjoy it, for chrissakes.

Timeline:
Nov. 29, 1993 in the LA Times — San Francisco wide receiver Jerry Rice caught eight passes for 166 yards Sunday, none more spectacular than his one-handed grab on the sideline for a 48-yard gain in the third quarter.
How did you do it, Jerry?
“I had stickum on my glove,” he said. “That’s a joke — stickum is illegal.”
-----------------------------
Jan. 17, 2015 interview with ESPN — Rice admits to spraying stickum on his gloves throughout his career. "I know this might be a little illegal, guys, but you put a little spray, a little stickum on the them, to make sure that texture is a little sticky," Rice said.
----------------------------
Jan. 22, 2015 Jerry Rice speaking to Jim Rome — "I'm going to be point blank, I feel like it's cheating . . ." Rice told radio host Jim Rome on Jan. 22. " . . . because you have an edge up on your opponent and it's unfortunate that it happened. I'm not saying the outcome of the game would have been different or anything like that because they (the Indianapolis Colts) got beat 45-7 (in the AFC title game), but they (Patriots) still had an edge."
----------------------------
Jan, 2015 Jerry Rice on ESPN Radio — “We already know that in 2011, Tom Brady said he liked his ball underinflated. He felt like he could grip the ball better …
“So it’s just one of those things — how you want to be remembered, your legacy? It’s just unfortunate that something like this has occurred because we should be talking about the Super Bowl. Instead, we’re talking about cheating. …
“I think you have to really put an asterisk on it, because this is going to follow them, you know, for the rest of their lives.”
----------------------------
Feb. 7, 2015 Jerry Rice via his Twitter account — I apologize ppl after doing my research about stickum! The NFL banned this in 1981. All players did it! #equalplayingfield
----------------------------
Is he a hypocrite for admitting to blatant "cheating" just days before calling out the Patriots? Is he a fraud for tweeting out that everyone was doing it? Is a liar for blatantly denying using stickum right after admitting it while in the midst of breaking the career touchdown mark, and for implying via Twitter that he didn't know it was illegal when he used it until doing "research" despite saying in 1993 that he knew it was illegal? None of the above? All of the above?
Whether you think think it is a big deal or not, and whether you think deflated footballs is a big deal or not, the silence on this is still deafening. The NFL Network’s No. 1 player of all time admits he "cheated" during his record-breaking career by using a banned substance outlawed by the league to gain a clear competitive advantage over his opponents. So where are all the Deflategate Truthers who couldn’t shut up about Brady's balls? Nothing. Nothing from Steve Young, Ray Lewis, Tom Jackson, Mark Brunell, Marshall Faulk or the countless others who, with no direct evidence of any wrongdoing, had no problem condemning Brady, Belichick and the Pats as an organization over and over again as liars and cheaters. And, strangely enough, not one single reporter has asked Rice to look into the camera and answer the burning question, “What’s up with our hero?” Go figure.
Hypocrites.

you won't hear anything for a while about the Patriots. People are resting their arms and collecting more rocks. Don't want to waste them on Rice.

Sorry you are so bitter.
The reason it matters is because we have places like this to come discuss and debate and trash talk. It also is talked about on countless TV and radio shows, blogs, newspapers, etc. When someone says "your team is hasn't earned squat because they nothing but cheaters and should have asterisks and give back everything they have won, and all fans of that team are suckers for following them and defending them and oh by the way all Boston fans are aholes" over and over again, it will generate a reaction.
I think it is a little funny that some anyone here would say that it doesn't matter and who cares...well, if you participate in this thread and other sports related threads, then obviously on some level you do care and it does matter otherwise you wouldn't be here.

I'm not bitter at all, and I still maintain that none of that should matter. Winning is all that matters. Period.
You probably should care less about my opinion as well.

Except that apparently I am just another ahole Boston fan when all I talk about is the winning. 😛

They count, but wrong thread. 😛

Good God. You won.
it was a tough two weeks as a fan being on the inside.
in fact, it was brutal.
and how long does it have to take to interview some people and come to a conclusion on this?
as for Rice, he's a stone cold cheater as far as I'm concerned, which ain't far.
I agree. He should be suspended for the entire 2015 season. Maybe 2016 as well. 😛

You keep missing what I'm trying to say. All I'm saying is...talk and bag and brag all you want. Just consider that the reason that other people outside Patriot World who don't care for the Patriots might have something to do with something beyond "you are all just jealous."

Nice comeback buzzer beater win last night for the Celtics against the Hawks (the team with the most wins in the NBA right now).

"Deflategate - the gift that keeps on giving."

That's it...every Patriots game since 2008 is now suspect, Goodell needs to review each game, minute by minute - that should wrap up, by - 2049?

Gaylord Perry was a great pitcher; the Patriots are one of the great football dynasties. Both will always be viewed a bit with a wink and a nod

don't forget your sunglasses as you view.
lotsa glare from those four rings...

Eric Wilbur says it better than I could...
"ESPN went all in with its accusations against the Patriots and their purported actions, and now it is left dangling with the ancillary actions of a ball attendant as the only proof that it has been able to unearth. That’s the smoking gun that the network is somehow trying to connect to a litany of deceit in Foxborough? Good luck." -Eric Wilbur

Hey; you haven't posted in days - under 6 feet of snow I'm thinking - but one word about deflategate and you dig out like the cop in "Les Miserables" LOL

Wrong. I've posted the same amount as usual, you are welcome to look it up. Just not in this thread, at least not until ESPN decided they needed to flog this dead horse some more (which I notice brought YOU out of the woodwork first). 😉
I guess I could just do my alloak impression: since when did this thread become about me? 😛

BYAHAHHAHAHA! What a DISASTER for the NFL. What a complete and utter DISASTER. So we spent two weeks lambasting the Patriots before the biggest game of their lives, and it turns out it was completely the league’s fault? That’s what I’m gathering, correct? One official steals a ball that was intended for charity so he can sell it and profit for himself. A different official saw that a ball was missing and replaced it, giving new ball to Jim McNally. That ball was not regulation. And all of this was caught on camera? Absolutely hysterical. Countless leaks and video footage found in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl but somehow the NFL never mentioned the one that pointed at the criminals in their own backyard. I mean the night “Deflategate” actually broke I joked it was all an NFL coverup but I never thought I could actually be right. Those crooks were to blame this entire time and they tried to besmirch the good name of the New England Patriots to steer the blame away from themselves. And the media ate it up like starving animals. Never once even entertained the idea that this could be anything but Belichick, because he had a “history of cheating.” Wonder if Goodell and the NFL finally have enough despicable behavior saved up to stop getting the benefit of the doubt.

hmmmm...another blog posted from someone in the NE area I presume?..not bias or slanted at all. 😉 😉
Just like columnist, people who shoot their mouth on the internet and etc.....I take these all with a grain of salt..just opinion based rants.....no matter what neck of the country you are from. We all can give our commentary and be blow hards and have our social media outputs to do that. Nothing new there.
We all know what opinions are like. People can really flex their muscles when they are sitting behind a keyboard.
As far as I know the NFL/Ted Wells have not given any official word on this,so we shall see.
But there is always speculation and "sources". I always wonder who/what "sources" are.....its' funny. Like some type of big secret/covert operation or group. We never know who they are, but they are "sources."

Whether you are a Pats fan or a fan of another team, no one can say they don't have a bias in how they view this story. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves or everyone else or both, IMO.
As far as I know the NFL/Ted Wells have not given any official word on this,so we shall see.
As I have been saying all along. But you know as well as I do that many on this board and in the public and the media did not follow your advice and had already convicted and were ready to sentence Brady and Belichick and the Patriots since the moment the story broke the morning after the AFC Championship game. Where are all those people now? Patiently waiting for the official report?
But there is always speculation and "sources". I always wonder who/what "sources" are.....its' funny. Like some type of big secret/covert operation or group. We never know who they are, but they are "sources."
That's been the problem with this story from the beginning, and that is on the NFL for handling this about as poorly as they possibly could have and on the media (particularly the folks at ESPN) for abandoning the notion of journalistic integrity in favor of sensationally salacious headlines.
The more dribs and drabs of info that gets leaked, the more foolish and inept the NFL and media are looking. The emphatic public denials of involvement by BB and TB (not to mention the apology demand from Robert Kraft) were enough to convince me that they did nothing wrong. There is now no doubt in my mind that Kraft deserves and should get an apology, but I guess that will depend on what kind of spin the NFL/Ted Wells puts on it i.e. will it be about the truth or covering their own asses.
I should also note that I find it interesting that no one could stop talking about how the cheating Patriots are stealing another one in the run up the SB, but now that it seems to be going the other way to one wants to even acknowledge it and just wants us to STFU and go away.
[Edited on 2/19/2015 by gondicar]

I'm starting to get the feeling Wells is telling the NFL he needs more time for damage control.
What he could possibly have on the Patriots, given the latest news, is beyond me.
and if he does, so what, who cares, didn't effect anything and still won't.
maybe Goodell's job but that's about it.

Now, now, now. We all know that's never going to happen.
America's Pop Culture Short Attention Span, you know how that goes. Heck, just since the Super Bowl society has doubled-down on their dislike for Kanye, and, hey, the Oscars are this Sunday! 😛

Hey, I understand. And like I said, we all have our own bias on this. But if you really think they would have stood up in front of the world (and I do mean the whole world not just the sports world because there were mainstream and other non-sports press at those briefings that would otherwise never have been there) and said what they said if they thought there was any chance that it could come back and bite them, well then I guess you are a more cynical person that I am.

Nothing they said could come back to bite them, because of the perfect way they handled it, which I have given them props for several times.

No deep meaning at all. Just needling ya. :D:D:D:D:D:D

I don't like the Patriots, they are not my team.
If all their fans think they are so damn good, why do they need to do this crap?
Fans can be as smug as they want, yes they thrashed the Colts, (not my team either) but why are they so often linked with provable cheating?
By the way, the above is the first post in this thread. Clearly saying that they did it, it is provable, and their fans are not only smug but stupid for believing they are "so damn good." Not to call out the original poster because he wasn't only one who said as much, but the point is when people say "why do you care" or "move on" or whatever, you need to understand that we as fans took it personal on some level because we were getting bashed almost as much as the team was. I know, cry me a river. But it is what it is.
