Let's also not forget that, if, say, the Jets were caught in this situation that Patriot fans would be all cute, cuddly and forgiving. Grin

we wouldn't care. They stink.

as for ex-players weighing in, ask any ex-player or current one and everyone has an opinion. Big deal.

as for some hanging the "cheater" label, if that diminishes the guy's accomplishments in the minds of some, so be it. I can't imagine a true fan of the game not acknowledging the games he's won.

I'm already at the "whatever" level on this one. (I'm starting to get the feeling the NFL is actually waiting to hear what TB12 has to say. I'm sure they've interviewed him and others but c'mon, if you got proof, stick it out there)

maybe a Colts personnel guy snuck into the Pats locker room...)

yeah, that's it. 😛

is it because we're Patriots fans that we agree on that or do others agree but just ain't got the pump to say it?

I haven't seen one post agreeing with that.

again, it's a Patriots thing. Us...them.

it's cool. Pats by 20. Cool

Two more former NFL QBs weigh in on this nonsense...

Brady Quinn: It’s all a media creation, albeit one that has captured the attentions of football fans nationwide.

http://nesn.com/2015/01/brady-quinn-patriots-deflategate-controversy-a-bunch-of-hot-air/

Drew Bledsoe: Patriots’ ‘DeflateGate’ Controversy ‘Seems Kind Of Silly’

http://nesn.com/2015/01/drew-bledsoe-patriots-deflategate-controversy-seems-kind-of-silly/

There's ex-players all over the place. Jerry Rice and Hines Ward are on record calling it cheating.

Any QBs?

LOL, I think you just knew I'd look this up...ok, here's Dan Marino...

"In inclement weather, if the ball is a little deflated, it can help you," Marino said. "It's something that when I played didn't think about it as much, or notice that much. The balls that we'd get before the games, we'd always rough them up."

😛 😛 😛

So another QB, a hall of famer, admits to doctoring footballs before games. But it is only became an issue when the finger was pointed at the Patriots. Got it. Cool

So, the Patriots deserve an exemption from the rules? At face value, the balls were under the limit set by the rules. Do you believe that no penalty, no matter how big or small, is warranted?

And, Marino didn't admit to "doctoring" anything. Taking the sheen off and adjusting the shaping of the balls is allowed within the parameters set by the rules. Cool Grin

By chance did they find any pine tar on the footballs? I hear it gives the QB a bit more advantage on wheel routes.

I agreed with it...somewhat...I'll repeat...

Maybe there is some truth to some sort of mass vendetta against the Patriots, but, to be honest, Boston fans in general go around telling everyone how awesome they are and daring everyone to knock the chip off their shoulder. What do they expect?

😛 Cool Grin

Not according to what I have read this week. My understanding is that under NFL rules, no alteration of the footballs is allowed once they are approved, at least that's what I've seen repeated over and over again in the media this week. When he said "we'd always rough them up" he was admitting to an alteration of the footballs. Do you think Don Shula knew about it? Hmmm. 😉

Heck, I don't really care what Marino, Rodgers, Brad Johnson or any other QB did/does to the footballs, it just isn't a big deal at all. It has been funny to watch the rest of the world get all holier than thou and try to tell us that it is a federal offense now that the finger is pointed at the hated Patriots.

Scott, bro, it's OK. You can't be this surprised. You yourself were just basking in the "haters gonna hate" a few days ago. No one is going to feel sorry for the Patriots and I think you know it has a lot more to do with than just "jealousy." Grin Grin Grin

Tell you what, though. I'll bet the Patriots win the SB in one of the biggest blowouts ever. "The rest of the world thinks we are cheaters that don't deserve it" is one fantastic motivator. Grin

I'm not surprised at all, and I think it has everything with jealousy and/or just wanting to see the top dog go down. The Patriots are the yankees of football, and I made peace with that long ago. Cool

And I agree that all this just plays into the hands of the Patriots on some level...it gives them their "its us against the world" rallying cry, and I predict they will kick the snot out of the Seagulls on Feb 1.

Not sure about a biggest blowout ever, but this no doubt will motivate them to win and win big.

They have been accused. And not by the NFL. All the NFL has said, although I'm not sure they have said anything directly/officially, is that the balls were under the minimum PSI when they were measured (and we don't yet know when that measurement was taken and how much under they were under, at least as far as I know).

Meh. The Patriots haven't been the top dog in almost 10 years since the last time they got caught cheating. Grin

Matter of fact, the Seahawks are the defending champs unless otherwise proven... 😛

As you know the mid-70's Raiders had great ballclubs, but the Raider offensive players were not exactly burners (except Branch).....Pete Banaszak, Marv Hubbard, Dave Casper, Fred Biletnikoff, ect.

Ever notice how the field at Raider home games was invariably like a swamp? Everybody in the NFL knew the Raiders watered down the field to slow down opponents and nobody made a big deal out of it. This kind of stuff has been going on for years.

Not really. 😛

Honestly, I think that if anyone underinflated a ball to get an edge, it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I think by the letter of the rule the Patriots deserve some arbitrary penalty but nothing to the level that some folks are suggesting. Cool

You are either missing the point, or ignoring the point. Doesn't really matter since it doesn't change the fact that Pats are the NFL team that fans of every other NFL team love to hate to most, and that is because the are the winniest team over the last decade plus. And it is only going to get worse (or better, depending on your point of view) after they crush Seattle on Feb 1.

I know a lot of fans who hate the Patriots because of how cocky and arrogant their fans are.

Patriot's by 20 huh? Denver thought the same thing last year and things did not work out so well for them.

I will be curious how Patriot fans will post here after the Seahawks beat them. Should be very interesting.

I've been a lifelong fan of some pretty terrible teams. If I loved to hate teams just because they win a lot, I'd hate everybody, but I don't. 😛

I am not fond of the Patriots because of how they and a lot of their fans conduct themselves. Wasn't much talk coming from the fanbase when Pat Patriot adorned the helmet, that's for sure. As a Chiefs fan, I watched that team get utterly destroyed by people hired from and recommended by the Patriot organization, when the committment was made to do things "The Patriot Way." (Which, in truth, there is no "Patriot Way," it's about being the team that happened to have one of the best QBs ever playing for it). I thought Belichick was an arrogant tool when he was coaching the Browns. I thought the way Belichick treated Drew Bledsoe after Bledsoe practically died on the sidelines was pretty terrible. Just my opinion, of course.

Besides, as a taunt, "You're just jealous" loses its impact once you get past fourth grade.

Love ya, bro.

I understand that completely. Same thing people say about the yankees.

Patriot's by 20 huh? Denver thought the same thing last year and things did not work out so well for them.

That's nothing compared to how Pats fans felt in 2007/08. We know the bitter taste of defeat.

I will be curious how Patriot fans will post here after the Seahawks beat them. Should be very interesting.

If that happens, I for one will be here to offer congrats, same as I have done every time my team has lost in a big game.

I am watching Brady's press conference. He is being evasive as hell. He likes the balls a certain way, but he never checks to see if they are the way he wants them. His evasive answers are somewhat revealing. An interesting point was made, Brady lobbied for the teams to be able to provide their own balls. he helped to get the rules changed to what they are today.

Neither Belichek nor Brady have any idea who is responsible for handling the footballs after the refs check them. Two control freaks don't know anything about the process. Got it.

Living and working near Boston the fans here still hate anything related to the Yankees despite the Sox being the more successful team the past 10 years. I think it is a genetic thing handed down the generations.

I wear a Yankee lanyard to hold my work pass and you can't imagine the nasty looks I get from the Sox fans here. Grin
