well how about that. 😛 😮

Anybody got a copy of the final bill that the taxpayers paid for this little fiasco?

Judge rules against Goodell and his League henchmen.
A federal judge deflated "Deflategate" Thursday, erasing New England quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension for a controversy that the NFL claimed threatened football's integrity.
U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell went too far in affirming punishment of the Super Bowl winning quarterback. Brady has insisted he played no role in a conspiracy to deflate footballs below the allowable limit at last season's AFC championship game.
No proof, no suspension.

Tom Brady wins court case! *
* pending appeal
OJ Simpson calls to offer his congratulations.

Well the saga is coming to an end. I guess the cheating New England Patriots are not really cheating cheaters after all, my apologies to their humble fans. 😉

Brady is free. Judge nullifies 4-game suspension. Could it have gone any other way? No.
Now ESPN needs to air a special called "The Apology", where the liar Chris Mortensen apologizes to Tom Brady and the rest of the New England Patriots staff and fans. I won't hold my breath. 😛

The text of Berman's ruling, this will be my lunch time reading today.

Is Obama wearing league approved Rubbermaid Gloves?

Glad they overturned it and I hate the Pats. The league had no evidence against Brady per se. The league IMO should have fined the Pats a lot more and taken more than one draft pick. The Pats organization s/b responsible, not Brady. Idiotic decision by the league and now they look retarded once again.
I would imagine many of the owners are really pissed off, but they will go home tonight and count their millions and be over it

The r-word? Really? Come on, man.

'Bout time this got thrown out.

Talk about getting blown out of proportion, sheesh.
gondicar's first post in this thread.

Now football fans , can we actually get back to talking about football and matchups? College football starts tonight

That's what I thought too -- an exercise in nothing but looking like mental midgets, at a price tag of Lord only knows -- this whole thing put 'making a mountain outta a molehill,' outta business

Collect?

I'm no expert on the history of unions, but it's pretty surprising to see any arbitrator go against the kind of authority that the CBA gives the commissioner, which now in essence is a useless position of a figurehead. If I was a coach or player that was so inclined, I'd take all kinds of cheatin' shortcuts from now on!
At any rate, our long national nightmare is over...

but that's the thing. As "arbitrator", the judge in essence told the NFL, "you didn't engage in due process".Goodell had the opportunity to enlist the services of an arbitrator in the first place but didn't. He acted, beyond his authority, as judge, jury and executioner. Hired an NFL lawyer to investigate, heard the appeal himself and basically acted like Mussolini.
I wonder if he's going to the game Thursday?

He does usually attend the 1st NFL game of the season. Somehow I have a hard time envisioning him getting cozy with Kraft in the owners box. 😛
EDIT: He ain't coming (shocker)

Not really what I was saying, but it doesn't matter.

NFL gets a judicial smackdown
Charles P. Pierce writes of today's Brady ruling: "It's impossible to read [Judge Richard] Berman's decision as anything other than a statement of complete disgust that this alleged petty gamesmanship ever wound up in his courtroom -- and his disgust is focused almost exclusively on the NFL."

Anyone else remember Bahgdad Bob from the Iraq invasion? Reading Goodell's statement about the NFL's appeal of Judge Berman's ruling, all I could think of was him, that guy from the Iraqi army who kept doing press conferences during the invasion about how Saddam was in control and the Iraq army was crushing the U.S. and coalition forces, while at the same time the U.S. and coalition forces were rolling into Baghdad with very little resistance.

As I was reading the Berman ruling last night, it occurred to me that the suspension was vacated, at least in part, because the NFL did the same thing that they accused Brady of doing. Berman said he wiped out the four-game suspension because it was "premised upon several significant legal deficiencies," including Goodell's failure to allow Brady's lawyers to examine one of the chief figures in the Ted Wells investigation, NFL executive Jeff Pash, and his failure to allow them access to witness interview notes.
So, the same commissioner who punished Brady for refusing to turn over potential evidence refused to turn over potential evidence to Brady. Brilliant.

I say Goodell's punishment should be attendance at EVERY Pats game, armed with a pressure gauge to check EVERY football Tom Brady touches.

I'm still waiting on the people who, for eight months, fired their harmless little arrows from the cheap seats to weigh in with their opinions on the matter.
for eight months we heard it on this board, on the news, around the country. Time for some people to man up.

I started the thread and you will see my apology a page or two up.
