North Korea allows tourism. Dumb kid decides to pull a stunt, but winds up getting a 15 year harsh prison sentance. Winds up severely ill and dies one year latter.

Did Obamas administration do enough/ anything to try and release him? He released Gitmo detainees and felt so proud about that and let a dictator get away with this treetment to an American Citizen.

Disgraceful.

Truth man. For that matter, what has any administration done to help the countless unfortunates trapped in US Fed prison on minor drug charges, getting raped and beaten traumatized and ruined for life for stuff as small or less than what Otto Wambier did? And right here in our own country?

Oh wait, things were improving under Obama, but along comes Trump and appoints Jeff Sessions to double down on the North Korean-style abuse and ill-treetment of American citizens.

Disgraceful.

I'm kind of hoping North Korea does the same with Dennis Rodman.

X2

Possibly the obsession centers from some distorted belief that a liberal or someone like Obama might be elected again and undo all the things that Czar Trump is doing to "Make America Great Again".

He's well on his way, isn't he? The list of accomplishments is endless, & his approval ratings reflects this? Most impressive when compared to other presidents and looked at in the context of an historical perspective. The 2nd hundred days surprisingly may exceed the first 100 day of achievements. The future is bright as the lights in the Kremlin.

First the far-left salon.com publishes a story the Otto Warmbier deserved what he got because of his “white privilege.”.

Then:

Salon Deletes Article Mocking Otto Warmbier When He Was in North Korean Captivity
By William Hicks | 6:36 pm, June 20, 2017

After widespread condemnation, Salon deleted its ill-conceived, tone-deaf article from last year, mocking Otto Warmbier, the college student jailed in North Korea for allegedly attempting to steal a propaganda poster.

Warmbier passed away Monday after being released by the North Koreans. He had originally been sentenced him to 15 years of hard labor for “subversion.” Warmbier returned to the States in a coma, which doctors concluded was the result of severe head trauma.

Due to the tragic outcome, there’s been hell to pay on social media for the outlets that tried to use Warmbier as a whipping boy, to make some dumb point about “white privilege.”

“This might be America’s biggest idiot frat boy: Meet the UVa student who thought he could pull a prank in North Korea,” wrote Brenden Gauthier of Salon.

Gauthier’s article was just a writeup of Larry Wilmore’s segment eviscerating Warmbier for his poor choices. Writing summaries of late night bits is the bread and butter of lazy liberal bloggers for some reason.

It’s tough for me to have much sympathy for this guy and his crocodile tears because he allegedly stole this North Korean banner,” Wilmore said on The Nightly Show, after playing a clip of Warmbier, crying and pleading for his freedom, while Wilmor’s audience broke out in laughter.

For his part, Wilmore hasn’t said shit about Warmbier following his death. He’s been silent on Twitter, receiving a torrent of outrage about the year-old segment.

Salon, on the other hand, seems to have realized it royally fucked up by making light of Warmbier’s tragic situation and seem to be covering its tracks by deleting the article. It has not returned a request for comment.

You are not very bright 😛 North Korea didn't want Otto to die there [because of the politicial fallout] so they cut him loose [99% dead] and he died here. trump had nothing to do with his release. Why didn't trump do something in january, when he was worried and tweeting about his small inauguration turnout 😛

[Edited on 6/25/2017 by pops42]

It was President Trump who authorized and dispatched a U.S. State Department team and Mickey Bergman as a lead negotiator that got Otto Warmbier released.

Donald Trump's Inauguration was seen by more people around the world than any previous inauguration.

The facts cannot be disputed even by the uninformed so again pops, you lose.

Once again, Mule is lying to make Trump look like a leader. Bu the facts dispute this.

http://www.npr.org/2017/06/20/533698481/former-new-mexico-governor-discusses-his-role-in-otto-warmbier-negotiations

My executive director, Mickey Bergman, went to North Korea at the end of the year with the support of the Obama administration. We offered private humanitarian aid. North Koreans never responded. They never said yes or no. They never agreed to have me visit as I have in the past - a total mystery but obviously a real cover-up.

But with the North Koreans in the past, you could get prisoners out in exchange for high-level visits, humanitarian assistance. With Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea now, we could make a deal with his father on prisoners, and we've been able to but not with this man. We don't know what he wants. We don't know what makes him tick. Obviously it's something very bad.

https://patch.com/us/white-house/otto-warmbier-trump-wrong-credit-china-blame-obama-says-bill-richardson

It seems that Obama had far more to do with his release than Trump did. But the bulk of the work was done by Bill Richardson and Mickey Bergman with Obama's approval.

I have no issue with the NPR article. Fine, lets award the Obama administration a participation trophy. In the larger picture, lets see which administration (Obama) or President Trump will have a greater impact on North Korea in the global community.

The only single country that could solve the North Korea problem is China. It is questionable whether they would be interested in helping out. Other than that, it will take a unified world to solve it. I don't see much chance of that at this time. No US president, whether it be Trump, Obama or whoever comes next, can do it alone.

Well said.
Obama completely failed and China looked at Obama as weak.
President Trump has a good working relationship with China and if North Korea were to attack any country with which we have a security agreement President Trump will act.

The article was an interview with Bill Richardson who Mickey Bergman works for. He stated that he had Obama's blessing to try to get Wambler out of NK. Try reading. And earlier, I put up other links that corroborated the NPR link. You were wrong. Again. Still. Always.

Links from left-wing and corrupt liberal media are the lies you left-wing whack-jobs need to feed your twisted political ideology.

Obviously you still cannot differentiate facts from lies.

Out of sight & out of mind. Doubt this was even an afterthought. I think human rights violations were off the table for discussion. Sad. This is how the two dictators operate & become play pals.

Someone needs to ask Emperor Don if North Korea replaces Canada in the G7?

Warmbier's parents push back on Trump comments, blame Kim’s ‘evil regime’ for son’s death

The parents of American college student Otto Warmbier, who died after his detention in North Korea, on Friday countered President Trump’s suggestion that Kim Jong Un was unaware of their son’s treatment – blaming the “evil regime” for Otto’s death and saying no amount of “lavish praise” can change that.

The president drew bipartisan criticism for saying during Thursday’s summit in Hanoi that he takes Kim “at his word.”

“I believe something very bad happened to him,” Trump said. “I don’t think leadership knew about it.”

Fred and Cindy Warmbier released a brief statement on Friday morning reiterating their long-held claim that the regime is responsible for their son’s death:

“We have been respectful during this summit process. Now we must speak out. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for the death of our son Otto. Kim and his evil regime are responsible for unimaginable cruelty and inhumanity. No excuses or lavish praise can change that.”

White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway clarified in an interview Friday on Fox News, however, that the president agrees with the family and holds North Korea “responsible.” She said Trump was only saying there’s no indication Kim knew what happened at the time.

“Of course he holds North Korea responsible. He has deep affection and shares the grief of the Warmbier family. That will never end,” she said.

The 22-year-old University of Virginia student died in June 2017 after being returned home in a vegetative state. His parents have said he was tortured. The suburban Cincinnati youth was visiting North Korea with a tour group when he was detained in 2016 for allegedly stealing a propaganda poster. North Korea has denied mistreating Warmbier.

Trump’s comments on the case drew criticism back home, recalling moments like when he did not challenge Vladimir Putin's denial of election meddling at their 2018 summit.

"We shouldn't be naive about this regime and about the way they mistreat their own people. And certainly the way they mistreated Otto Warmbier," Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said Thursday.

There have been conflicting reports over whether Warmbier was tortured. But Trump himself asserted in September 2017 that Warmbier was “tortured beyond belief by North Korea.”

Last summer, Warmbier’s parents praised Trump after he said the first summit with Kim might not have happened if not for Warmbier, and that “Otto did not die in vain.”

Fox News’ Eric Shawn and Jason Donner and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
