When I was a kid, pretty much the opposite was true.

Ugh who knows. The offense has hit a wall, and I think it's more Eddie Lacy being out than anything. Without the running game defenses have blanketed our receivers and everything looks out of sync. They will get things back on track, huge game against Minnesota this weekend.

I hope they do. I am a Packers fan 2nd behind the Colts. I lived in Wisconsin for a few years when I was a kid during the Lynn Dickey and James Lofton years.

Aaron Rodgers has a laser for an arm. That guy is something else. Getting beat at home by the Lions was a tough one. You are right, big game against the Vikes this weekend and the Bears are playing better.

I remember watching this live on MNF. Thirty years later, it still hurts to see it.

Flashback: Lawrence Taylor broke Joe Theismann's leg 30 years ago in gruesome fashion

Aside from the Patriots and the Bengals, the AFC is a freakin' mess. The Wild Card is all the way up in all kinds of air.

The NFC isn't that much different...each conference has only 5 of their 16 teams with above .500 records (that's 10 of 32 teams total for those of you without a calculator). Each conference has a division, AFC South and NFC East, without a team over .500. At this point either conference could easily end up with a .500 or worse team making the playoffs.

AFC playoff standings

1. New England Patriots, 9-0
2. Cincinnati Bengals, 8-2
3. Denver Broncos, 8-2
4. Indianapolis Colts, 5-5
5. Pittsburgh Steelers, 6-4
6. Buffalo Bills, 5-4

Still alive
7. Kansas City Chiefs, 5-5
8. Houston Texans, 5-5
9. New York Jets, 5-5

NFC playoff standings

1. Carolina Panthers, 10-0
2. Arizona Cardinals, 8-2
3. Green Bay Packers, 7-3
4. New York Giants, 5-5
5. Minnesota Vikings, 7-3
6. Atlanta Falcons, 6-4

Still alive
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 5-5
8. Seattle Seahawks, 5-5
9. Washington, 4-6

I'd say salary cap...;)

I've heard on a couple sports talk radio shows from NFL "insiders" that there is strong thought being given to taking the preseason down to two games, then adding a European game for all teams. The extra week would go for downtime to recover from those trips.

the product has gone way down, too many injuries. now that they are putting in controls to protect the players which is a good thing, there are many guys missing games for concussions and other injuries that in the old days they just played through. Also defenses are completed stifled by the new rules-- it has to be done but it does detract from the game we saw only 4 or 5 years ago. And the salary cap accomplishes its goal of making most to the teams equal.

Teams like Pats, Steelers, Packers have the elite QBs and if they can attract any other talent will always be superior to those who have helpless QBs like the Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Redskins and too many more to count that will always be in the "Wild Card" hunt.

In the old days teams with good defenses could complete by blasting the QBs-it does not happen that way anymore.

What an ugly game that was. But a win is a win. 10-0 and on to Denver.

HA!!! Funny picture.

There has been some skeptical/wrong/missed calls this season no doubt. I know I would not want to be a ref.

I am not sure if this is just a product the times we are in as far as sports with having all of the different angles(replays) to review, more rules/changes and etc. Which seems to cause plays being scrutinized trying to get them right wih all of the technology on hand and everything gets blown up. Expecting it to be perfect. There have been bad/missed calls forever.

Some of the rule changes I kind question. The whole DB and reciever pass interference /coverage issues. I see it go both ways. More seems to benefit the WR at times.

I thought the Bills played good D against NE. Got in Bradys face and knocked him around and covered it short. Still got beat, but TB was getting frustratesd......maybe he was mad his uni was getting dirty. 😉

The Bills executed the textbook game plan that I'm surprised more teams don't do against the Pats...pressure, pressure, pressure. It helps that they have good pass rushers (not every team has the personnel to execute consistent and aggressive pressure) and that the Pats o-line is in shambles right now, but that's always been the formula for beating Brady and the Pats. They also disguised what they were doing well before each snap. It might have worked except the Pats D also had a pretty good game.

Small nit though...Gillette Stadium has an artificial surface so dirty uni was not a factor for TB12. 😛

Hey Johnny Manziel, hope that was a good party! Less than a year after going through rehab, and a week or two after being named the Browns starting QB for the rest of the season, he goes down to Texas during the bye week, parties like a rock star, gets filmed/photographed doing it, and as a result he will now be Browns third-string QB Monday night, behind starter Josh McCown and Austin Davis. What a dumba$$.

Don't get why Old Rex didn't throw Manuel into the game with two minutes to go instead of putting Taylor through the torture of trying to throw the ball downfield when everyone knew he couldn't throw the ball even 10 yards with any accuracy or zip.

At least Manuel could have tossed a hail Mary or two.

Also I thought when a defender went up and covered a receivers face that was considered a penalty. Seeing more of that not being called. Maybe ball was under thrown by Taylor last night but running into the receiver with your hands in the air I thought used to be a penalty.

Bills had a good chance to win but blew it by not getting first down with 9 minutes or so to go and not capitalizing on their D's great work.

Today's picks sure to go wrong:

Detroit -2.5
Carolina -1
Chicago +9

If you are a betting person, take the opposite. 😉

More food for fodder: Just reading through today's Chicago Tribune and the lead NFL writer agreed with me on all three games. 😮 You have been warned...
