We have a tech who handles everything and I do not do anything of a personal non-work nature there. I have Windows 10.

I've been getting a few this week that have a new one where the screen says "Your computer is locked" with directions on how to get it unlocked.
If you touch any keys or try to turn off the computer, it locks the computer down with that screen.
Looks a lot like some of the old ransomware, but has a different script to it.

Stop visiting those "PORN" sites. 😛

Pops, you should know that porn sites have the best reputation of being malware free.
They got sued so many times about "little Johnny mistakenly went to your site and got our computer infected"
that they now have some of the best malware preventative practices on the web.
You can still use your computer, right?

Most of the malware people get from porn is from newsgroups, actually that's where a large portion of malware comes into peoples computers. Video, photo, and music newsgroups don't have a "hold" procedure before posting for download and the posts aren't scrubbed for malware content.

Drive-bys usually come in under a misspelled url or on a legitimate website with a link masking as one that people think is safe. say you think you typed in allmanbrothers, but typed in allmenbrothers, what would you go to?
It used to take you to a male gay porn site. Fortunately enough people complained and the domain was closed
so no more gay guy movies popping up on your screen.

A few years ago a major city had a link inserted on their website "pay your water bill here". People who went there and paid their bill using credit cards or put in their checking account numbers found their cards maxed out very quickly and their bank accounts drained. As you can probably guess, the city had no knowledge of that link being there, and it had disappeared after a few weeks.

So, if you download something have your anti-virus program scan it before you install or open it.
If you think a link might not be legit, hover the cursor over it and read where it goes to (it should be at the lower left hand side of the screen).

One day we'll have to get a chat room going and I'll give you some of the "for instances" I can't get into even in the Whipping Post.
