John McCain

What a patriot.
I have not always agreed with him and at times opposed him, but I am confident that America would be better if there were more John McCain's among us. We are better as a nation and as a people for having him dedicate his life to service of our country.

Plus 1. Well stated.

Well stated. Whether you agreed with John McCain's politics or not, there was never a question that he had America's best interest at heart. He had integrity that most political lack. A true American hero. RIP

Agreed....I didn't always agree with him, but he was a true patriot and an honorable man who loved America and wanted what's best for it. If only there were more like him currently serving in the Congress also with an "R" behind their title.
I wonder what he thought of what's become of his political party these past two years? Of spineless Ryan and cowardly McConnell?

Bush & Obama will give eulogies. Before his passing, JM requested Trump not attend. Tells you what JM's thoughts were. God rest his soul.

I seldom agreed with McCain's politics, but there is no disputing that he was an American patriot. Perhaps, sadly, he was the last one in the Republican Party.

RIP John McCain. One of the good guys. Saw a flag at half mast with the black POW-MIA flag underneath. Hit home.

As far as his political career, what accomplishment of his is most admirable? Were there any? Only the campaign finance reform bill?

He was well supported by republicans for decades. Didn’t hear any of the BS criticism till Trump came along and trashed the mans service and republicans showed true colors by falling in line. Disgraceful and stupid. This is temporary but Repubs will eat it for decades to come. Wait n see.

He was thoughtful, softspoken, did not feel the need to dominate anyone, he wanted honest dialogue, the way a true statesman does. His foreign policy ideas were well thought out. He wanted us to rule with intellect, integrity and an appropriate, coherent strategy. He was a good man.

Just when you think this loser in the White House can’t get any lower, he does. There’s nothing more shameful than his attacks on the late John McCain. To choose this trash to lead the United States is the second worse black eye this country has ever seen after slavery.

The Fanus is insanus.

Well, This thread is a Tribute to a fine Patriot and Leader, Mr. John McCain. I will leave it at that. Allright, Yes Trump is a sub-human swine, no offense meant to any real swines!!!!!!...........Peace...........joe

Nice work fellas!
A thread started to Honor a great American hero has spiraled into hatred of another.....
R.I.P. Senator, your dignity and heroism will always be remembered.

Actually, I did consider (maybe not rationally) what McCain's Family would think of my comments and though I certainly did not take any high road, I didn't think they would mind that much?...........Peace.......joe

And?

Nice work fellas!
A thread started to Honor a great American hero has spiraled into hatred of another.....
Trump is responsible for his own hateful words, and has inserted himself into the conversation.
R.I.P. Senator, your dignity and heroism will always be remembered.
It's a paradox trying to profess respect and admiration for both Trump and McCain, considering they are the moral antithesis of one another. I'm not really sure how you've reconciled that.

It’s ok BIGV. Only about 5 people will see these posts, and if you offended, try harder.....don’t live up to your nickname BIG”V”.
And it was more of a shot towards the scum that will be voting for him again.

A thread started to Honor a great American hero has spiraled into hatred of another.....
Well thanks to you it has ascended into the lofty moral high ground of abject love of another great American hero . . . wait a sec . . . did I hear that right? HERO ???? You think the Fanus is a hero?
Trump is not a great American hero. He is a great American zero. McCain thought so too. You can't hate a zero. There is nothing to hate. However, we can try to backfill the crater. You can criticize, speak your mind, I am sure McCain would be proud of every word on this thread, other than the one post saying he was useless in politics, and the one referring to Trump as "another Great American Hero". We can't rip on Trump in a McCain thread then we can't rip on him anywhere.
To pretend to honor McCain and Trump in the same breath is to dishonor McCain and praise a criminal. It is phony and duplicitous. Go ahead, call it hate, try to cast Loyalist shame from the moral high ground. No more Mr. Nice Guy. I'm not going to stay quiet and be polite about the national disaster in the White House. We mocked King George, we roasted Hitler, we are going to laugh this fool out of Washington. Ridicule is the sunlight on the flowers of revolution.
Let McCain have the last word on Trump, Trumpism, bogus nationalism, and the rest of it:
from McCain speech when receiving the Liberty Medal:
To fear the world we have organized and led the three quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain the last, best hope of earth, for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems, is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.
full text of McCain on Trump/Putin Helisinki Summit:
"Today's press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory. The damage inflicted by President Trump's naiveté, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is difficult to calculate. But it is clear that the summit in Helsinki was a tragic mistake.
President Trump proved not only unable, but unwilling to stand up to Putin.
He and Putin seemed to be speaking from the same script as the president made a conscious choice to defend a tyrant against the fair questions of a free press, and to grant Putin an uncontested platform to spew propaganda and lies to the world.
It is tempting to describe the press conference as a pathetic rout – as an illustration of the perils of under-preparation and inexperience. But these were not the errant tweets of a novice politician.
These were the deliberate choices of a president who seems determined to realize his delusions of a warm relationship with Putin's regime without any regard for the true nature of his rule, his violent disregard for the sovereignty of his neighbors, his complicity in the slaughter of the Syrian people, his violation of international treaties, and his assault on democratic institutions throughout the world.
'Coming close on the heels of President Trump's bombastic and erratic conduct towards our closest friends and allies in Brussels and Britain, today's press conference marks a recent low point in the history of the American Presidency.
That the president was attended in Helsinki by a team of competent and patriotic advisors makes his blunders and capitulations all the more painful and inexplicable.
'No prior president has ever abased himself more abjectly before a tyrant. Not only did President Trump fail to speak the truth about an adversary; but speaking for America to the world, our president failed to defend all that makes us who we are—a republic of free people dedicated to the cause of liberty at home and abroad.
American presidents must be the champions of that cause if it is to succeed. Americans are waiting and hoping for President Trump to embrace that sacred responsibility. One can only hope they are not waiting totally in vain.'
.
American hero, my @ss.

Nice attempt at deflection, I will patiently wait right here while you find any post where I have "professed respect and admiration for both Trump and McCain". Specifically, President Trump. I repeat, I will wait for you to back that up. No inferences, just any words where I have expressed that sentiment.
This thread was about respect for a fallen Hero, a few of you have seen fit to take it to the sewer.

Just taking the fight to the rats.

I am guessing you believe I think the President to be a "Hero"?
Hahahaha!

This thread was about respect for a fallen Hero, a few of you have seen fit to take it to the sewer.
Now that is deflection. Again, Trump inserted himself into the discussion by repeatedly grossly disrespecting McCain, so take your issue up with him rather than shake your finger at those here who don't appreciate it. You can't have it both ways. This is a discussion thread, not a memorial statue.

Interpret it anyway you choose, the thread began showing nothing but respect for a Great American Hero. You and a few select others took it south....

The President, the Commander-In-Chief, took it south.
What is your opinion on the President's recent remarks about John McCain?

the thread began showing nothing but respect for a Great American Hero. You and a few select others took it south....
What is your point? That an Allman Brothers website thread that 5 people read is disrespectful to McCain? LOL!

Interpret it anyway you choose, the thread began showing nothing but respect for a Great American Hero. You and a few select others took it south....
Since you have now made the thread about yourself, as usual, you are right.....it really did go south. BIG"V"....I'm so glad you named yourself that.

Wrong again, I only commented to point out your hypocrisy once you jumped aboard to wag your finger at those who won't stand for Trump trashing the person this thread sought to honor. But apparently this thread is sacred to you, so had they just started another discussion, you'd have been totally fine with that I'm sure. Or do you just take issue with everything?

Hahahaha!....As a matter of fact had this thread remained about respect for a Hero, I would not have had reason to point this pathetic weakness out...Hypocrisy? Please. Don't Like Trump bashing the Senator?....Why take a thread that looked it was headed in an Honorable direction and drag it into the mud?
The complete opposite of what Senator McCain stood for.

I am guessing you believe I think the President to be a "Hero"?
Hahahaha!
Your line: "A thread started to Honor a great American hero has spiraled into hatred of another....." reads as if you were referring to "another hero".
Forget the hero business, how does this sentence read? "A thread started about a rabid chipmunk has spiraled into hatred of another."
Most would read the "another" as meaning another rabid chipmunk. My bad for misreading what you miswrote.
Doesn't matter anyway, you are all full of it. Most of the enthusiasm for McCain here is because he was against Trump. It's all "he was a war hero, he was a good man, I liked him BUT I DIDN'T LIKE HIS POLITICS", from both sides. So spare us the phoney self righteous act.
I bet I am the only one here who voted for him.
