I guess it wasn't a hoax or how to sniff out BS from 1000 yards
In the history of this country have we ever had to shelter in place in mass across the country for a supposed hoax?
discuss..
"Had to"?...LOL...Or through fear pressure made to feel as though you should?
What a bunch of sheep
I would counter with this:
If you own a Bar or a restaurant, is the responsibility on you to close? Or do people have the right to choose whether or not they wish to visit?
If your answer is that not everyone will make the "safe" choice....
....You might be a Democrat.
The Republican Governor of Florida just closed bars statewide Public health isn't partisan.

I am hearing a lot about "Orders" and "Measures"....
What is the law?..What are the legalities behind these actions?

Thank you. I’m proud to be part of the group that listens to doctors and makes safe choices. Only a fool would brag about being unsafe, but if it makes you feel cool or tough, by all means, please tell us more about how you are ignoring our doctors and health officials.
The man is proud of being a rebel without a cause...sad isn't it that a grown man can only look as far as the end of his nose for some improvable position that he feels is infringing on his rights...so laughable from a 1000 yards
We in our county have been placed in a "Shelter in Place Order" I am going to the grocery store but I certainly don't "need" to go to a bar or restaurant to make me feel "free" or that my rights are being infringed...but be a rebel fly your rebel flag and swim upstream if it makes you feel free...LOL

It's called an "Executive Order", which have a great deal of latitude.
I have zero intention of going anywhere near a restaurant or bar, like you and everyone here, I will need to hit the supermarket and gas station. My "problem" is with the government legislating my safety, while "allowing" the Airlines to continue to operate. Trains?..Buses?... Cabs?...All mobile, all close proximity...
Hypocrisy at it's best

It's not hypocrisy, it's prioritizing. Restaurants and bars are slightly less essential than travel. You try to keep as much business and operations active as possible. You can't fit 250 people in a taxi.

You certainly can in a plane. Is it about the spread of this virus?..Yes or No?

Ya know BIGV I don't think you're a bad guy...just someone that needs to stomp around and prove improvable points.

Why are the Airlines still up and running?

It's about minimizing the spread. You know, prioritizing. It's why grocery stores and pharmacies are also open. You do what you can to minimize the spread without stopping all of society.
It's about minimizing the spread
I'll ask again, "Then why are the Airlines still operating"?

No, I am afraid you have not.
How did the virus get here from China?
On a Plane?

I did answer. It's not all or nothing. As I said, Prioritizing. You do what you can to minimize the spread without shutting down all of society. Travel is still a major industry, that many other industries are dependent on. Some air travel has been limited between some countries, and some airlines have cut back their flights to a minimum. The virus actually spread on a person, so, to repeat, you can't stop the spread, but you can try to minimize the spread. Bars, concerts, and restaurants are slightly less essential than travel.
It is one thing to shut down travel from abroad to here, it is another to shut it down within. The two are not the same and carry different consequences.
Planes are not full, many flights have been idled. For the most part, the only people that are still flying are the ones that have to return home from vacations or that must get from point a to b due to professional commitments. Airlines have substantially improved their cleaning methods during this time.
I think it is fine that the federal government has not called for a suspension of air travel or other public transportation. I also think it is fine the federal government has not mandated that businesses nationwide close. Suggestions are one thing (like keeping groups below 10 - or as Dr Fauci says, let's not fight over groups of 10 vs 25 - it works to serve the same purpose) - consider the federal suggestions and ultimately work towards the goal. The states are doing this themselves, some willingly and early, and others...like Florida belated and perhaps from outside pressure.
Other than our flat footed beginning with this virus, I do not have much criticism for the overall response. This is not easy work to coordinate yet everything can always be better. We will learn from this and hopefully be better for it.
Why isn't the cruse industry offering their ships as hospitals. Move the ventilators needed into the ships quarantine the patients. They have everything else needed. Kitchens, showers. They could just sit at dock and not spend billions building hospitals for the short term. Just a thought
I'm sure airlines are not shutdown because there are people that have traveled both here and abroad that want to get back home...Cargo planes need to fly there's no way to shut the entire planet down.
I'll ask again, "Then why are the Airlines still operating"?
That is a valid question. Care to lead off our inquiry into the matter with your opinion? Why do you think airlines are still running?
I do believe it to be valid and to be honest I realize that my opinion matters not. That being written, from a logical point of view, any further Air travel (Imho) makes zero sense. If you are going to ask people to stay home, that should include not getting on a Plane.
For the most part, the only people that are still flying are the ones that have to return home from vacations or that must get from point a to b due to professional commitments
"For the most part" what are the chances that someone who is flying for one of the above reasons is carrying the Virus? If we are being asked to stay home and limit contact, stay 10 feet away from people, would not flying be at the top of that list? If the economic effect is the reason, tell that to the millions being asked to stay home from work. "Professional commitment" or beer vendor, what's the difference?
The virus actually spread on a person, so, to repeat, you can't stop the spread, but you can try to minimize the spread. Bars, concerts, and restaurants are slightly less essential than travel.
While I thoroughly understand the argument being put forth here that includes the words "essential" & "minimize" the fact remains that air travel (which pertains directly to the person who has the virus on their skin or in their lungs) appears to be the most streamlined way to spread this contagion from one place to another.
How many here would risk Air Travel at this point in time?
How many here would risk Air Travel at this point in time?
Few people are, and I imagine even fewer will make plans to now that Spring Breaks are mostly over and the virus is in more places. That's why the airports are pretty empty and airlines are operating fewer flights (as has been pointed out to you). Plus, there are some travel restrictions in place. The virus was going to get here, grounding air travel would have had a massive economic and logistical impact and likely just delay the virus's arrival. Cruise ships are still coming and going and borders are open.
Most of these restrictions are coming from states and local municipalities and are targeted at gathering spaces that aren't being constantly cleaned (theaters, bars, festivals, etc). I imagine the FAA and CDC would have recommended grounding planes if they thought such a drastic measure was necessary (some people are already having trouble returning from Europe, but they are still finding a way back). Honestly, I'm not even sure what your point is. Do you believe all air travel should have been grounded or is the continuous (limited) travel proof that local officials' reactions to the CDC recommendations are overreactions? People seem to be making informed decisions regarding travel and only doing so if they have to. My wife's national company has canceled their travel; many of the Snow Birds in south Florida have delayed their return trips north. I know several people who canceled plans for last week's MSG show to avoid travel. However, I have a friend who is moving from Portland OR to south FL for a job next month, should she just roll her self across the country in a hamster ball?
I would fly if I had to. For instance, my Mom lives in Florida in the winter. If there was a need for me to be there, I would fly to her. I would try and get a first flight out in the morning, one where the plane was at the airport overnight as a plane in that scenario likely had a deeper cleaning. Delta is using disinfecting fog machines on some of their planes.
So has anyone solved the mystery of WHY ARE THE AIRLINES OPERATING? Why won't anyone tackle the question? C'mon people! We can do better than this.
@BigV any of the answers offered shed any light so far? Or is it all just the feeble pointless bleating of sheeples who will say anything to avoid facing reality.
It's a real stumper.
Alex,
I'll try "feeble pointless bleating of sheeples " for $800.
Oh my gosh...just hit the daily double.
Relax, total chaos is not going down in China or Italy. People are dying en masse but there are no people rioting in the streets for bread. There is no reason food and other essentials wont be available.

Agreed. The very few are getting anxious, but shelves are being restocked and everyone's power is still on. I've been through hurricanes and where the power is out for days, stores can't get supplies and people become incredibly decent to each other.
