Now we have Saudis and US nationals breaking into people's twitter accounts to spy and report back information to the Saudis.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not tolerate criticism of it's government or royals. Mohammad bin Salman has reportedly said (I read it somewhere) that he felt that he was allowed to kill anyone who portrayed him or the royals in a bad light on social media. Image is very important. There has been ongoing dissention in the kingdom, but I think a better way is to just speak with those who are not happy and explain the rules/laws of the kingdom and let them leave and go live somewhere else, or provide refuge areas/cities where people can live under whatever way they want to. I don't know what Jamal Kashoggi wrote, but he should have been able to just live somewhere else and told that he could not further report on activities in the kingdom, almost like revoking a press pass. He wanted to marry a Turkish woman, he could have relocated there or to Lebanon or anyplace else. He was living in the US criticizing the Saudis. They do not want an Arab spring in their country. What happened in Egypt was too close for comfort. It is anti-islamic to spy on people.
What is the US position since we want to maintain positive relations with the Saudis? To cooperate with them or any other government to allow foreign nationals to spy on Americans and report back to their homeland?

Trump seemed good with the Saudis murdering an American reporter.
Trump only cares about things that put money in his pocket or that help him win elections. If the Saudis do one of those things, then Trump is their best friend. Notice how most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi, yet the were exempt from Trump's Muslim ban. That is pretty much all you need to know.
