SUMMARY

The four GOP presidential candidates debated in Miami and stretched the facts:

Businessman Donald Trump wrongly claimed that the Obama administration isn’t “knocking out the oil” controlled by the Islamic State in Syria, because of climate change concerns. The administration, which stepped up attacks on oil facilities, hasn’t cited climate change. Instead, it has cited concern about long-term economic harm and local environmental damage.

Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz disagreed over whether Cruz had waffled on his opposition to ethanol mandates. Trump was wrong, and Cruz was right.

Cruz claimed that President Obama sent a bust of Winston Churchill back to the United Kingdom when he took office. The bust had been loaned to President George W. Bush, and a replica is still at the White House.

Sen. Marco Rubio dismissed a question about man-made climate change, saying, “The climate has always been changing.” But scientists say there is ample evidence that humans are contributing to climate change. Rubio also falsely claimed that passing policies like the Clean Power Act would have “zero” impact on the environment.

Trump incorrectly referred to Common Core as “education through Washington, D.C.” and claimed Common Core has been “taken over by the federal government.” The education standards were developed by the states, and the curriculum will continue to be managed at the state and local level.

Trump wrongly said the U.S. gross domestic product was at “zero, essentially.” Real GDP grew at a rate of 2 percent in the third quarter of 2015 and 1 percent in the fourth quarter.

Trump, Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich repeated several claims we’ve checked before — including Trump’s claim to be self-funding his campaign (he’s taken $7.5 million in donations); Kasich’s boast on job creation (Ohio’s growth trails the national rate); Cruz’s claim about welfare benefits for immigrants in the country illegally (they’re already barred from most government benefits); and more.

Trump also said that the 1,237 delegate count needed to secure the party’s nomination was “a very random number.” It’s actually a simple majority of the total available delegates, 2,472.

Who really gives a shit about local environmental damage...we are trying to win a war against people who want to take down civilization!

Sen. Marco Rubio dismissed a question about man-made climate change, saying, “The climate has always been changing.” But scientists say there is ample evidence that humans are contributing to climate change. Rubio also falsely claimed that passing policies like the Clean Power Act would have “zero” impact on the environment.

So taken on it's face, is fact checking saying Rubio was true or false by saying 'the climate has always been changing'.

I believe the point that most people make about the actions the US may take or mandate upon it's citizens and businesses will have little to no impact if countries like China and India remain or even grow their gross polluting ways.

Here's an idea, let's all buy CFLs and LEDs made in China to feel like we are making a difference, pat each other on the back, good job us! All while essentially supporting dirty and polluting Chinese industry.

I thought that Cruz got caught in a pretty big lie on the exchange with himself and Trump on trade. While blasting Trump's threat of tariff on imports, Cruz touted his own tax plan which he says "taxes imports". Last time I checked taxing imports is a tariff Ted. And Ted says that tariffs don't have the desired results because consumers, not business end up paying the tariff. Trump should've asked him then, who ends up paying the tax on imports that Cruz supports? Actually I thought that Trump defended his position on trade as well as he has in any debate so far. The closing statement by Trump on the issue to Ted was that when you have imports that are taxed/tariffed that end up costing more, we have the opportunity begin producing those products here with US labor. I was so happy to hear him make that comment.

To take it one step further, I wish someone would've said that when the imported product is more expensive it gives a domestically produced similar product which may be higher in price a better chance of being chosen.

It can work!

No reason not to believe DT continues on his path to the nomination. Last nite just highlighted how same-old same-old is his opposition.

Is Hillary ready?

Is Hillary ready?

She better be. Right now I don't see a path to anyone else. For her to fail win the general two things would need to happen: 1) She would need to be severely damaged by some investigation or scandal, and 2) The Republicans would need to find a way to nominate someone other than Trump. I don't think Hillary will be significantly hurt by scandal and I'm beginning to realize that Trump isn't going to go away. So we will finally get our first women President, but I don't see much to cheer about.

Just to support my earlier statement, aforementioned Youngstown local radio Ron Verb show and CNN's Martin Savage who came here to research the story of over 1000 Democrats changing to Republican ballot in early voting and Democrats saying they are voting for Trump.

Not sure if there is going to be an actual CNN story resulting from our area.
