I hope you are well Joe, I really do. I do get concerned that you post so many threads on the same Trump hating theme. And I'm fine with that, if that is what you want to do and you enjoy the outlet of doing it, maybe getting it out makes you feel better and that is cool to me so don't take it the wrong way.

Lots of people hate Trump. My good friend who also hates Trump, I just talked to him the other day and we talked about the Coronavirus and what is happening here and Congress and all and he said "Trump's trying to get out front of this thing now because everyone in the world is going to blame him for what is going on". So focused on the inadequacies of Trump and all his failure and idiocy that the entire world is going to blame Trump for Coronavirus? I paused and said, "well...maybe the people of the countries in the world should blame their leadership for what is happening in their country" which he curtly said "well sure". We can blame our leadership for what is happening in ours. We have surpassed other countries in total cases, but not as a % of population infected (US .027%, Italy .13%, Spain .12% to name a few). It's not to minimize the situation, if anything it illustrates just how little capacity the healthcare systems in the world have to deal with such an epidemic.

Damned if you do....... For those who are claiming that something could have been done sooner....Like what?.....There are still convenience stores, grocery stores, auto parts, Staples etc. open. I would argue that for everyone who is staying at home, there is one who is not. I believe this is an "all or nothing" type of battle, either everything is closed or the "curve" takes longer to reach. Do we as a nation really have 6 months?...A year? "Oh wait" some will counter, "What about the essentials like food and gas"?...Are these places immune from the virus?....Seems pointless to ask people to "stay home" and then make allowances for people to leave their homes...."Acceptable losses" is more than likely a term that has been tossed around by the decision makers, in a way no different than the decisions made when a country goes to war. What % of the population is "expendable" in order to protect a way of life? I will take this a step further and jump on the conspiracy bandwagon and say that this is exactly what China has done. "What % of our own people are we willing to sacrifice to 'thin the herd' worldwide" by releasing a genetically altered virus? Let us not forget that this is a Communist regime...."Just how vulnerable would the USA be if we (China) followed this course of action"? Perhaps this is why the President is referring to this as the China Flu".. "Damned if you don't"...Who will get the blame if we sink into a depression?....And what is the time frame for recovery?

We all come here for our reasons and I'm very happy to have this forum as I look forward to coming here and am happy when I see new posts. We're a bit of a unique bunch, some more polished, some pretty ragged. But we're here together doing what we like to do. I just hope your free time Joe isn't filled with as much distress and frustration as it sometimes comes across.

This was when i removed myself from the Trump camp. He is a traitor to the highest degree.
For our situation now, he should leave the statements to the experts, and keep his mouth shut. A terrible excuse for a leader. His amateurish press conferences are embarrassing. he's a self promoter and doesn't give two firetrucks about anybody but himself and his desire to be Putin.

Several experts have weighed in that there could have been a tremendous amount of preparation done by the Federal government in the month before the virus got here. We knew it was coming. Sure, the virus was going to hit us just like it hit Europe, but we could have mobilized medical supplies so people weren't scrounging after the fact. There could have been leadership from the top based on expert opinion on how to contain densely populated areas. And that means Trump working with governors instead of childishly pissing matches. Instead Trump has cited his "feeling" about the crisis, which he is pretty unacceptable.

Today Trump said this in regard to NY state's request for ventilators specifically for NYC:

“I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you go into major hospitals sometimes, they’ll have two ventilators. And now all of a sudden they’re saying can we order 30,000 ventilators?”

That's just an insane, dangerous statement. He has no knowledge of the situation, and he should be deferring to those better suited. My good friend who has been working nonstop in a NYC hospital to her own great risk is a better source of information than the President. That should bother everyone.

Economically, the stimulus is a finger on a hole in the Titanic. $1200 is not a lot of money when you add up the average person's cost of living. And it's weeks away from arriving. We could have had economic safety measures in place that were ready to deploy in time for the arrival of COVID to our shores. Capitalism is great, but it is dependent on production and spending. That's all Trump understands, which is why he wants to rush back into opening everything before we are in the clear.

The Federal Government and its agencies that exist for just such an epidemic could have made sure areas that were likely to get hit had the ventilators, masks, and testing kits ready. We could at least used a measured, level head at the top, and instead we have a President who put all of the Phase 1 response on the shoulders of Governors and Mayors, the same Governors he now says have to treat him nicely. He's completely out of his element. We have Sonny Corleone when we need Michael.

Joe, you have 8 million New Yorkers right there with you. Notice he was never elected to ANYTHING in NYC or NYS. He wasn't even allowed to be a member of the Real Estate Board of Developers. One day he was on TV & the next he was in the Oval Office.
