This is a pretty amazing schedule coming up.

How about Alabama being an underdog for the first time in like 72 games or something dating back to 2009!

Proud-a-my Tide this morning! At last, they played a complete game!
Not meaning to reflect sour grapes or poor-sportsmanship, but I still say the Ole Miss game was gift-wrapped. Not making mistakes is a huge part of winning at any level!
BAMA still has a tough row to hoe (Bear Bryant-speak 😉 ), but last season began a lot like this one and we still found our way into the play-offs!

I didn't get to watch a lot of games yesterday. I saw a good bit of the 2nd half of the Florida - Ole Miss game. I thought the reb's could and might rally, but I guess the gators are better than I thought. Dabo's doing a bang-up job down there!

I hate for Alan that the Vol's just can't find a way to click. Maybe some coaching overhauls are in order before next year?

I was worn out from an all-day BAMA party so I actually fell asleep watching the Miss State - Texas A&M game!

Starting to feel like LSU might be the SEC team to fear ... or beat! 😉

Well, the QB issue has been beat to death down there, but yesterday Brandon Harris was 4 of 15 (26%) 80y 0 TD 1 INT. Vs EAstern Michigan. That is beyond horrendous. And it isn't the exception, poor QB play at LSU the last 1+ years is the rule with the Harris and Jennings behind Center.

I mean if LSU had a QB, even like Metenburg or something equal, this time might be world beaters with that OL, the amazing skill at WR and next level RB unit...man if I was an LSU fan I'd be so pissed that they've blown this QB situation for 2 years now.

LSU's season will be defined by November (at Bama, Ark, at Ole Miss, aTm).

aTm looks good, but gotta think they are vulnerable and won't win the division. Although they are good enough to knock-off one of the other two would-be division winners. Doubt we've heard the last from Ole Miss too.

Ya think? I was watching a different game than you, I thought this was just going to be another Notre Dame pulled the rabbit out of the hat last play of the game fluke as per usual.

I was 10 jello shots in and bunch of other celebrated beverages so my p[reception at 1 am may have been off but I thought Clemson played terrible in the 4th and ND D was a force.

Don't get me wrong I am glad they lost but it was a close close game.

Clemson got too conservative on offense. Playing not to lose and it almost bit them in the ass.

Here's hoping Texas makes a coaching change and then wonders why the new guy didn't fare any better. Grin

I think Texas is that dumb. If they do this what sensible coach would go there if Strong isn't given time to improve the program?

Did you see the Michigan State at Michigan spread this week yet?

Michigan -6.5!

Such a huge adjustment! In August this line was MSU -4.5.

Now do I think Michigan should be favored in this game? Yes. But that is a high price to buy Michigan in this one. The D has been fantastic, although maybe in hindsight the competition hasn't been quite on the level that MSU will bring here. NW and their tr fr QB, Maryland O has just been awful. The performance against BYU is probably their most impressive D result in my mind. Then UNLV and Ore St are undermanned and offensively challenged. Never-the-less, an outstanding D.

MSU has been underwhelming in 5 of their 6, or perhaps even all 6 of their games this year. How good is Oregon (now 3-3) and Ducks were just 1 overthrown ball away from winning that game. MSU blew leads vs AF and Purdue. C Mich outgained them in yardage while MSU pulled away late to make it look better than it was. And they struggle with Rutgers (who is not a good team and on par with Maryland that Michigan just waxed 2 weeks ago).

Michigan has proved themselves this year. Say what we will about the level of competition, but they've delivered impressive results.

Michigan State largely is living off of last year's reputation and not proving they are up to last year's standards.

I can't wait to see this game!

wow a college football chat room and no discussion of Spurrier. Boy has his sail sunk that low at S. Carolina. One of the great legends of the game stepping down. The man owned the SEC for a long period until he got bored with it

Somehow i don't feel his ego could take the losing or lack of a top team at S. Carolina. He just never seemed into the job IMO from what he was like at UF where he was almost in the sky. Except for Bear Bryant, he might be the most famous coach ever in the SEC. He only won one national title but i think he must have won 4 or 5 SEC titles and he beat Peyton Manning 4 straight years when he played for Tennessee.

Spurrier is one of the greatest of all-time. Of course, he will be best remembered for his years at Florida, but he also rescued two other floundering programs at Duke and South Carolina. Perhaps even more importantly, he changed the game of college football offensively. He most definitely changed the way football was played in the SEC.

So does Vols win over Bulldogs lessen Bama's win over Georgia? I doubt it. Somehow the media will spin Bama's win in the rain into something HUGE!!!

Great win by Vols and a great game to watch.

Wolverines are getting way to much love in the media. Three shutouts in a row over bad teams in the bad big10 does not make a playoff team.

And then there are my ducks!!! PHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK has this been a terrible season for Oregon. I am going to game this weekend in Seattle. Yes I will be wearing teflon Ducks gear to keep the beer thrown at us from freezing.

Everyone is on the hot seat at Autzen, Helfrich and his crew are being yelled at even by old hippy ladies.

The QB situation is killing them. Hopefully Adam's finger heals this year. How long does it take a broken finger to heal in the United States????

I think (hindsight being what it is) Oregon got sold a bag of Div 2 pucks when it comes to Adams. He looks more lost then Lockie which is saying something.

Oregon has recruited no one that can tackle on D or block on O.

This is Helfrich's team now and it is not looking good for him.

So much going on this week in college football! Wow.

Re Spurrier -

Andy! Great to see you here! What year did you go to your first Florida - Georgia game?

I have always loved Spurrier, both on and off the field. Sunday-Friday he made game week fun, the quotes, the jabs at his fellow coaches, the honesty he'd have about how his team is (or isn't) playing. I will miss him. A football legend on many front for sure.

Now on the resignation...I partially think he just didn't want to do it after a potential loss to Vandy. Well maybe.

Anyway, he did this the way everyone should. You know just like he says, when it is time you have to get out of the way because everyone knows where it is going and what needs to happen. I totally agree with how is doing it and the timing he has chosen to do it. Frank Beamer might want to consider the same. Makes me think back to Bobby Bowden, or Paterno when PSU was floundering before they caught an uptick before the Sandusky scandal.

Gained alot of respect for how Spurrier went about this and his honesty in it. Some say he is quitting on his team and this and that, when you lose the edge, when you lose the fire, staying at the helm is probably worse. Give someone else the chance to rekindle the team, get a different approach and try to salvage something of a disappointing year. And the recruiting isn't going to be any better with kids not knowing who will be the coach, but now the negative recruiting against Spurrier can stop.

Wish he could've been carried off the field on the shoulder pads in the Georgia Dome like he wanted, but this way alteast he won't have to suffer another loss to Vandy 😉

On Oregon,

Mike have a GREAT time at the game. I think Oregon can win it. As good as Washington is on defense they aren't so hot on offense, so not likely to experience another game like Utah or even Wash St who both have the ability to take advantage of that porous Duck D.

I've always thought that college QBs, even the very good ones, are always replacable. Oregon had a good run of plugging and playing different QBs through the years, often the new guy would be more productive than the last. Then you lose a Heisman winner and it gets a little tougher to keep on plugging away.

I don't watch IAA football, but know how good Adams was at that level.

Just seems on the heels of relying on the experience of Mariotta for so long, replacing him this time just became too much. And Adam's injury certainly complicates matters with getting any sort of comfort or rhythm. Plus they lost their 2 best OL to NFL.

In the past the O could make up for any D shortcomings, but now it is stressed more as well. Their red zone defense is 127th in the nation (out of 128) in TD allowed %, 83.33% of the time opponents score TDs when in the red zone on these Ducks. The pass D is really bad.

But I can still see Oregon winning this week. They are playing a UW fr QB (now with 6 games and road USC win under his belt though). Ducks can still get pressure on QBs - 12 sacks last 2 games vs CU and Wash St and in general can get stops behind the line at a pretty good rate (7.5 tfl per game). So maybe they can force the kid into a couple of mistakes with pressure. UW hasn't protected great and he only completed 50% with a 0-1 TD-INT ratio last week.

Ducks still run it with the best of them. Really like that Taj Griffin kid when he gets out in the open nobody catches him. USC ran for decent amount on UW...probably easier to run on this UW team than pass on them which should suit Ducks better.

Good luck! Washington will really want this one after losing 11 straight in the series!

Oh and Michigan hit 8.5. May have topped out there.

I felt like last week the game vs NW would be a tough fought game for both teams. Michigan hasn't played anyone worth a damn on D since Utah and I thought NW would pose a challenge for them.

Instead, NWs' O couldn't do anything against Michigan's D. And in hindsight, I guess that is understandable. This is the same NW O that only scored 24 on Ball ST and 19 on Duke (1 TD was KO ret). So I didn't see that coming, but NW's O was not capable or ready for that test. Michigan was.

Now I am thinking this week we'll get the game many expected last week. And they're giving nearly the same amount of points away on the dog as they were last week, but clearly wouldn't anyone say that Michigan St is substantially a better team than Northwestern? I would. Connor Cook is one of, if not the best QB in the B1G. NW doesn't have that. Nobody Michigan has faced since week 1 has the QB, or the all-around offense that MSU does.

MSU came into this season with perhaps the best OL in the entire nation, but they are down a couple key players there and injuries are a big concern for MSU as a whole.

Still at +8.5, that is too tempting for me to pass up.

Go Green...

Hey Scott just have not had a lot of time this year with my business stuff. Hope to start watching some games now as weekends should free up.

My first trip to the swamp was UF against Tenn when Peyton was a freshman. UT went up 17-0 and Gators ran off the next 60 points. It poured during the 2nd half. Not sure what year that was but Gators had Fred Taylor and Danny Weurfel as QB.

Anyhow UF seemed revitalized but losing their QB now before LSU game ????

Road game blowouts thursday and friday...ucla and boise.

Strat, is this the most embarrassing loss under Mora? Maybe not when you consider some of the key D players not on the field Thursday night, but man. That game...right off the bat. Force Stanford to punt, 3rd and 1 and they THROW, get O PI, then pick 6. Then next series Perkins takes Bruins to RZ and penalty negates TD. Then penalty moves them back further. Get the FG, then Stan runs the KO back for TD. Easiest start for Cardinal imaginable.

Best selection of early games yet this year! Get your day started right!

Iowa - Northwestern
La Tech - Miss St
WVU - Baylor
Tulsa - ECU
Louisville - FSU
Ole Miss - Memphis

Giddy up!!!
