First gameday in our new multi-TV basement layout and man was it a fun day!

Rolling stream of consciousness...

After weeks 1 and now 2 clearly Penn St O has not showed the anticipated improvement. Their starting LT (who was moved from RT after the JUCO LT sucked so bad vs Temple) had what looked like a serious knee injury 1st half. That isn't good. Big game vs Rutgers coming up.

Speaking of Rutgers...so many great games yesterday, but was there a more crazy game than Washington St at Rutgers? Wow, that game had some twists and turns. Rutgers had 2 TDs called back by penalty, still retook the lead with under 2m left following some typical head scratching Mike Leach play calls. Wazzou goes down the field for a game winning TD with under :20 left including some key 4th down plays.

Houston upsets Louisville! I think Louisville's problem (among several I guess) is the true freshman QB they are forcing into the lineup. Kid has talent, but is so raw. They won 9 games last year and had all 3 of their QBs returning, but Petrino must have promised Lamar Jackson the world or something. Now they have 4 QBs and shuffle some in and out of the lineup and have no offensive consistency. Houston has been pretty good lately, great situation for Tom Herman to step into.

Bowling Green absolute lights up the Maryland D. Matt Johnson BGSU QB passes for 500y! The score could've been worse, but BG blew some red zone chances. One of Maryland's TDs was curtiously of a Will Likely kick return (Likely broke the B1G record for kick return yards the week prior). Too bad for Maryland they don't have 22 Will Likelys...he's the only player on their team that can really make plays.

2007 Michigan former players must have been all over the Jax St - Auburn game in crunch time. That App St team was amazing, a back-to-back-to-back IAA Champion. I don't know if Jax St is any good or not, but that would've been among the biggest upsets in college football history (Auburn closed -39). Jeremy Johnson for Heisman? I don't think so.

Ole Miss 70+ pts in both games this year....nice. Up next? How about a trip to T-town!

Alabama was driving late 4th qrt up 37-3 when back up QB as int'd at about the 5 and MTSU got a big return out of it setting up a short TD drive. Game was about to be 44-3.

Not sure I've seen a more stereo-typical hangover than Hawaii at Ohio St. Urban Meyer must have witnessed a piss poor week of practice this week too based on how they played. Credit to Hawaii for really playing hard, but tOSU looked flat, slow and confused most of the day. The praise has gone to their head, after all they've been hearing they are the best team since whenever, blah, blah, blah.

Minnesota really struggled offensively at Colorado St. That Minny passing game is so limited. If they can't get swing passes to RBs their passing O has little to offer. Needs to get vastly better.

Georgia Tech is chewing up teams and spitting them out. Next up Notre Dame!

Virginia, oh Virginia. Not financially invested in that one, but man did I want Virigina to win that game. I'm not a ND hater either, I like ND being good and relevant. I just love teams like Virginia who aren't really good, a coach who does things the right way and is under fire...I love a team like that rising up against the odds against a top team. I feel terrible for Zaire with the broken ankle. In a different way of course, I feel terrible for the Virginia football team. They will probably win 4 or 5 games and fire London and try and rebuild yet again and have nightmares about the one that got away vs the Irish.

Vandy's D is so much better this year, but the O is another story. Dawgs made every yard the Dores fought for a monumental challenge, especially in the 1st haft and through 3 qrts. I think their best play in the 1st half might've been that punter running for the first down on a blown regular punt play. If they had a QB capable of running an offense they might, might have just upset UGA yesterday. And Georgia fans, is Grayson Lambert really the QB that is going to take you to Atlanta? We're about to find out if an average to below average QB can be made better by quality players around him. Gamecocks, Bama, Vols and Mizzou in 4 of the next 5.

Well, that will teach Brett Bielema from running his mouth about games he has ahead on the schedule. The mighty MAC beats the mighty SEC in their own backyard (well Little Rock). Toledo is a good team even though their OL is totally green and Arkansas should've owned the line of scrimmage. Hogs ran for 104 yards on 31 carries.

Iowa wins by 14, but that is misleading as ISU actually led or was tied for a large part of that game. Hawkeyes had a late 4th qrt drive to break the tie and get up by 7, then a couple plays later picked off ISU and punched in a short TD drive for the 2 TD margin. Pitt at Iowa this week is a fairly interesting game under the lights at Kinnick.

How bout them Vols? Got to learn how to finish games. Feel like the wrong team won that game, but after Tennessee took their 17-0 lead mid 2nd qrt, their next 10 drives in regulation they gained less than 70 yards total, with the bulk of those yards actually coming on 1 drive when they missed the FG. This is a Mike Stoops defense here and UT has all that offensive skill don't they? What went wrong?

A week after routing New Mex St, Gators found themselves in an unexpected struggle vs ECU who was playing their back up QB. ECU was in the red zone late threatening to score when Gator D got a fumble and held for the win.

Ark St appears to give Mizzou all they could handle, game wasn't on TV so I don't know. I do know that Ark St played much better than a 55-3 score vs USC showed last week (to the extent that is possible).

UK snaps a 20 game SEC road streak. Pretty easy to see what is happening in Columbia vs Lexington. One team is on the way up and another is on the way down. SC should've lost to UNC in week 1. UK played great in the 1st half, only SC TD (about a 3 yard drive) was set up by INT on opening possession. After that Cats played lights out until halftime. Somebody lit a fire under that Gamecock D at the half because UK didn't get their first 1st down in the 2nd half until some time in the 4th qrt. But that UK D showed up too, holding SC's many productive drives to FG rather than TDs. Plus a huge play on a 2-pt conv run back when SC was trying to tie the game, but Cats up by 4 late and they hung on.

Texas turned to Heard at QB and everyone covering the game for Longhorn network said kid was making throws they didn't know he could make, never saw him to it in practice. So he's a "gamer" apparently. Still only won by 14 vs Rice. Cal comes to town next week, Cal with perhaps the best passing O in the nation and a very underrated D. Horns are so young. Frosh all over the place. Cal is for real.

LSU was dominating Miss St for better part of 2 qrts, but some untimely and perhaps questionable penalties took away a few big LSU O plays and put them in some tougher down and distance. Extra skinny kicker for Miss St kept the game close when it didn't feel like it should be and MSU had a shot at the end when Dak finally got in a passing rhythm. Game tying 2 pt conv failed with about 4 min left. D got the ball back and Dak led them down again, but the drive sputtered in the fading seconds and kid missed a 50y FG for the win.

BYU wins yet another on exciting TD pass coming on 4th and 7 from the 35 or something. That Tanner Mangum has one amazing arm! The threw 2 passes in that game that were just incredible and then came the game winner! It is great to be a Cougar fan right now (but probably not great to be a Mormon, I don't know just saying).

Ducks at Spartans...you all probably watched that one plus I'm out of gas typing all this. Gonna give my fingers a rest, crack the first beer of the first NFL Sunday, figure out some Sunday bets and dream about week 3 of college football coming up!

Great re-cap, Nebish!

As an SEC junkie I watched in amazement as several of our top power houses struggled with "non-entity" opponents.

Auburn in overtime against Jacksonville State??? How many of you even know where Jacksonville State is?

I watched Georgia (parts of the game) in a near stale-mate with Vandy.

My own Alabama having a hard time getting into gear against Middle Tennessee was tough to fathom. Bama's got a lot of work to do before this coming weekend! Can't tell if Saban is hiding cards under the table or if they're really that anemic in spots. The kicking game (placekicker) is of major concern. 0-4 so far this season! My armchair coaching opinion: we've got what is perhaps the best set of tandem running backs in the NCAA and our defense has been a bit iffy. RUN THE BALL!!! Digest as much clock as possible and keep the D off the field! Pass when you have to - and then, keep it short! They pulled it out. A win's a win ... right?

As much as I just never pull for Tennessee, watching them fold after two overtime sessions was heartbreaking. Good teams find a way to win and it seems like Oklahoma is a good team. I was pulling for the Vol's to pull it out, though!

My concern about Kentucky. This is the third game in a row going back to the Louisville game last year that the opposition changed QBs and we did not adjust to the change.

Two of our second half three and outs were killed with a holding call on first down. First and twenty will kill you most of the time.

The good news. Stanley "Boom" Williams is the real deal at TB, three straight 100+ yard games. He has learned how to follow his blocks and can break a big gain anytime. We've won two games where we made the big plays when we needed them. Historically we would have folded up in the situations we had against ULL and USC lite.

Hotty Toddy!

Wow, was that a fun game.

Minnesota scores ONE TD vs Kent St!

Gene Chizik just might have that UNC D improved this year. Looked good vs a formerly high flying Illinois O.

Tulsa is going to be good under former Houston and Baylor QB coach Philip Montgomery (Art Briles disciple).

So is SMU under Chad Morris (Gus Malzahn disciple). SMU is 3-0 against the spread and were very competitive vs TCU last night (plus gave Baylor all they could handle for a half in the opener).

Missouri is lucky to win as a 21 pt fav over UConn.

Northwestern defense played one hell of a 2nd half vs Duke. Duke was just 17% on 3rd down in the game.

At halftime Kansas St head coach Bill Snyder said their offense needed 11 new players when asked how to get the offense going. Using the same 11 players, they pulled out a tight 3 OT game vs La Tech (UF trans Jeff Driskel is QB for Skip Holtz at LT).

After hearing how great they are following week 1, Ohio St offense has looked like dog shit. Fortunately for them they have an easy schedule and a good enough defense to keep winning ugly games.

LSU's Leonard Fournette...I don't think words can describe that performance. Auburn has their tail between their legs this morning. LSU 8-0 heading towards November 7th vs Bama?

Some comeback for Nebraska down 23 I think in the 4th qrt to force OT. Then they lose it on the first play of OT with a bad INT throw.

GT hadn't gone 3 and out on O all year...ND D was salty yesterday! GT first 2 drives were 3-and-out (had 5 no FD drives for the game). ND led this one 30-7 midway through the 4th. Everyone's darling QB Justin Thomas completed 33% of his passes. First time starting ND QB Kizer completed 70%.

The wheels are officially of at South Carolina. Almost seems like Spurrier might just up and quit ala June Jones last year?

How is 20 straight completions and ncaa record 24 of 25 passing 330 yards for Georgia's Grayson Lambert answering the questions on if he is good enough to get it done!

Texas Tech 3-0 and face off vs TCU in Lubbick!! Tech deals Arkansas 2nd consecutive "home" loss. Hogs in trouble.

Colorado - Colorado State was another fun game in this tight series.

UK O couldn't handle UF DL, but UK D was equally tough. Blown red zone opportunities and a forgettable game by QB Towles. The steak goes to 29 for Gators over UK.

Texas overcomes 21 pt deficit for would-be tying score with under 2m left only to miss the extra point absolutely crushing Horns. QB Heard set UT record with like 540 yards rushing+passing.

Stanford shocks USC! That is the Stanford everyone expects, Northwestern is lucky the trees were off when they played week 1.

Pitt at Iowa was an exciting game. Pitt still finds ways to lose late, although they had a great game tying drive to tie late before Iowa kicker nails a 57y FG for the win.

BYU almost did it again. Cougs never trailed until the waning minutes vs UCLA. The Rosen one struggled, but the ground game was their to pick him up. After pulling miracle wins the first two weeks Tanner Mangum couldn't pull a rabbit out of his hat on this comeback attempt throwing a 4th down INT to end it.

I love college football!

Me too, love your recaps as well.

Great to watch the tree beat the trojan man at home. Classic Stanford pace ate up the clock like no one can. Hogan played a solid game.

Ducks roll but UTAH Is going to be a beast to deal with this coming weekend. Game is on Fox so this Cdn is happy.

DUCKS!!!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that Utah-Oregon game too. I want to see what Oregon looks like vs the rest of the PAC 12 and if history of past performances might hold true...I want to see if the Ducks can roll some mid-level conference teams they way they always have. Offensively it shouldn't be an issue I don't think with or without Adams. Utah has improved, but still don't view them as a "taking the next step" kind of PAC 12 team. Utes will challenge, in the end I'd expect Ducks to win by 14+. Let's see if they can do it.

That should really be a GREAT time!

Will be interesting to see Michigan get challenged again after their tune ups the last two weeks. Wonder if BYU is out of gas? Win at Nebraska on emotional final play of game (which they were in the game throughout, not a fluke they won, but lucky to do son on that kind of play). Then were in a close battle with Boise and won on a 37y 4th down TD pass (ran pick-6 back one series later for final margin). Last week they give a very good UCLA team all they could handle and led throughout at the Rose Bowl only to fall late. After 3 straight games like that, how much can Cougars have left?

I tend to like Michigan -4 in this spot, but BYU knows how to compete with the big boys for sure! (edit - Michigan -5.5 now).

Have a fun time!

Praise and glory to the folks at BYU that schedule so many good games to start the year. Team has played some tough opponents already and still has a couple of good opponents coming throughout their season.

I'm taking BYU to roll the funny helmet team.

Bruins take on Zona at Zona this Saturday. ESPN Gameday visiting too. My pre-season prediction was the Bruins would split with the Zona schools. I hope my prediction is wrong!

Bruins lose a huge part of that defense. Myles Jack, all PAC 12 LB, potential All American, is out for the year with a knee inj in practice! Add this on top of Dl Eddie Vanderdose and CB Fabian Moreau are lost as well. ND gets alot of attention for their attrition, but those are some huge loses for Bruin D.

This Arizona game is going to be tough!

ND at Clemson...I like it!

Michigan dominated BYU's OL and Tanner Mangum looked like a first year QB for first time this year. As Harbaugh said they had some very good plays the staff crafted. Some of the passes to the tight ends, they were just so wide open. Great gameplan by Michigan and BYU may have been out of steam after their previous 3 game stretch, but truth is they just were out manned and out athleted today.

Oregon getting a hard one up the Duck butt right now! Looks like Oregon just plain wants to quit in the 3rd qrt and Utah keeps pouring it on. "Utah came for blood tonight" "This gameplan is a masterpiece". Utah has turned the corner after all huh?

Utah > Michigan St?

What is going on with Michigan St anyway? And Ohio St? MAC teams are good in their own right, I love MAC teams, but these are the kids that aren't good enough to be in the Big Ten. Just like Sun Belt kids aren't good enough to be in the SEC. Some good players fall through the cracks and there are definitely some good coaches at those conferences, but when you have the expectations of tOSU or MSU, you should hammer those teams...Those are the two best teams in the country? MSU was 1 play away from losing to the Ducks...Utah > Michigan St?

UCLA continues their domination over Arizona! Big time!

So far Az St isn't interested in tackling Trojan QBs and WRs.

TCU - Tex Tech...not my kind of football with the nonstop offense, but that final couple minutes had some great drama and that catch for the win....wow...

The game vs OU and today vs UF...those are probably the worst two loses I've seen a team suffer in the same season, let alone in a 2-out-3 game stretch. Sad times in Vol nation. Gators extend another win streak.

There are no great teams right now. The season is only 1/4 over and no doubt some teams will emerge and get stronger.

Makes the ranking process this early in the season even more of a joke. I don't know how someone can put Ohio St, Michigan St and TCU in any kind of top 4 combination with a straight face. I mean all you have to do is watch the games to know these are not the teams playing the best football right now. We just don't know enough still about everyone.

Full throttle neck stomp. Message boards are going crazy in Duckville. Brutal showing by the entire ducks organization.

Adams broken finger is an issue but he looked lost most of the first half.

Hopefully a wake up call for discussion on d strategy and special teams.

Utah owed us one after they had Oregon on the ropes last year and let them back in it with a dropped ball on a for sure TD. I was worried about this game a while back. Utes are for real. Love to see a new team stepping up in PAC12.

Oregon next few games are all winnable (Wazu, Wash and I think Colorado) but team needs to find something that works and an off week to get some more healing for that finger.

My Wolverines are finally ranked again. Other than the last few years, it was a foregone conclusion. Maybe Harbaugh is turning the program around.
