Disgusting? There must be a much harsher term..............

They do not want to do anything about pervert priests. They should be ashamed and want to have them out of their churches but they don't. What does that tell you about their integrity?

Tells me they should convert to Islam, where their behavior would be acceptable. Mahomets wife Aisha was a six year old wife when he was in his fifties
If anyone here is a practicing Catholic, I apologize but the Catholic Church is one of the most corrupt organizations to have ever existed.
No need to apologize. Lots of wonderful folks belong to corrupt organizations. Like every single person that is a citizen of any country on Earth.

I'm a recovering Catholic and am not in the least bit offended given your observation is spot on. The irony of course is that Christ preached against much of what the Catholic church stands for not only now but going back centuries.
I reconcile myself with this irony by reminding myself that many individuals within the Catholic church do many good things within their own communities for those less fortunate than themselves. The problem as I see it is this constant bending of the knee so to speak to the Vatican in Rome as well as some all too powerful Bishops and Cardinals.
I think it's time the Catholic Church in America completely cast the Vatican and the Pope and his minions within the Vatican completely aside and create their own church within this country. Report the abusers to law enforcement, reform some of the outdated rules (allow for women priests as a good first step..followed by allowing birth control), and get back to the actual teachings of Christ.....

Thank you for the reply Chain. You have a lot of courage to continue and keep your faith considering your reservations and that is very admirable. While I believe Pope Francis understands practical changes need to be made within the church (he's disdained many of the privileges prior Popes have enjoyed), maybe you're right the Catholic Church in America needs to separate itself. In turn, many other churches in countries facing similar concerns may follow suit. Maybe that could finally force the Vatican to make the wholesale changes is must do. Again, your courage in your faith is to be admired.
Personally, I was raised Lutheran and attended church regularly through high school and off and on in college (I really liked the pastor at our local college parish). While I didn't have any issues with the Lutheran Church itself (Martin Luther was anti-Semitic), I no longer believe in God. I believe that Jesus existed and his most important messages were we have to get along for society to prosper and to show forgiveness. Regardless of faiths or beliefs, may we all find peace.
Perhaps I didn't explain myself very well....I haven't any faith in a god per say as defined by what I suppose is a form of organized religion, but consider myself to be spiritual in the sense of trying to do right by my fellow man and treat others as I want to be treated. That includes helping the less fortunate than I any way I can.
I certainly do not consider myself Catholic any longer despite being raised as such and being a member of a family with many still practicing Catholics within it. I find Catholicism to be cult like, guilt ridden, controlling, corrupt (at least in the Vatican and in some of Dioceses sprinkled across America and the probably the world), and very outdated.
However, some Catholics, to their credit I suppose, seem able to disassociate themselves from the evil that resides within the hierarchy of church leadership and continue in the beliefs that the religion espouses. Good for them and no offense intended if that's their belief system....
Brutal, brutal subject that must be addressed!!! Now, are we only going to look at the Catholic Church, who definitely has major, major issues, or are we going to indeed look at our very fiber, our University System, our business world, our human nature in general??? To improve and advance as a human population, don't we have to do better?? I realize how tough it can be to look at ourselves, neighbors, family members, etc. I have no answers, openness from a young age seems like one tool??? BTW I was raised in an Italian Catholic Family in Chicago, moved to a Polish Catholic Community. At age 15, drifted my own way, personally never saw any abuse, the last 5 Years I have been attending United Methodist, to support my son in law and Grandson. Just can't let this type of crap stand, no matter where, got to shine a bright light on it all???........Peace.....joe
Protecting money, power and prestige are the main reasons that large scale systematic abuse gets covered up in Churches, govts, schools , businesses etc. In every day society and Families, it's lack of a way out, lack of money, fear and embarrassment and shame that allows abuses to flourish?
You know in more direct response to the original post, I guess my response would be this, measures must be executed to the best of our ability to round up any Priest, Church leader, CEO, School Official etc Who had knowledge of any of this and start making it significantly more costly to cover these things up than to be transparent? Is there an answer?.........Peace......joe

Yep StratDal, no question here I would say!!! I still enjoy Prayer and the Mystery of Faith, it's just that when You add human beings into any equation, You can get wonderful things, You also gonna get a lot of bad behavior and messed up sh!t Goin on.....Peace......joe
Remove the words "Cardinal Admits Files on" from the thread title, what remains is a headline I would like to see.
