Bill Gates: "Elon Musk is involved in the deaths of the world's poorest children"

As they say, the cruelty is the point. And to save what? He's making money off of this. And by design, government isn't a for-profit endeavor.
These incredibly unqualified people are missing is the big picture. People come to the United States because of this kind of humanitarian outreach. People in countries that receive this kind of aid often return the favor by helping keep us safe with security intelligence. Just because there isn't monetary return doesn't mean there is no value in investing in humanitarian aid. And no US taxpayer is going to see any financial returns by cutting off help.
But beyond that, the World's health is our health. Try as they might, we don't have a draw bridge. Cutting off our nose to spite our face. To save a few pennies.

@porkchopbob: Very pertinent remarks. You make tons of sense.
I am nearly finished with "Character Limit: How Elon Musk Destroyed Twitter". It's like a blueprint for what he's done with DOGE. Haphazard and indiscriminate firings of staff which often they later realized they had an urgent need for. Lots of Twitter executives were laughing at him and how he didn't really understand the inner workings of the company. Some mocked him behind his back, but others openly, with internet posts.

There is a segment in the 1983 film, Twilight Zone: the Movie that featured Vic Morrow's final performance (he died in the making of the film). Morrow's character is a bigoted racist in the segment. The character is in a bar where he slurs and chastises everybody from Jews to African Americans. He is especially angry because he feels that he was passed over for a promotion at work in favor of a minority. The character stumbles out of the bar and finds himself in various situations where he is a member of a persecuted group (Vietnam war, a boxcar in a Holocaust scene etc.)
I have an idea for a similar vignette involving Donald Trump and Elon Musk. In my movie, both leave a rally where they've promoted everything from budget cuts to social programs, to over-prosecuting folks who may or may not be guilty of crimes all the way to those who are just too poor for their own damned good.
They find themselves waking up on a cold dirt floor. The first thing they notice is the stench of human waste and decomposition. They sit up to notice partially clothed people with swollen stomachs. The sound of crying babies permeates the air. Both look up and a person in a Red Cross shirt extends to them a cup filled with a murky liquid mixture of peanut butter and milk. "Drink this", they are told. "This should keep you alive for another day or two. "Hopefully the U.S. government won't cut the program that sends us this food."
