Dating back to incumbent elections into the 1990s, poll respondents for that question have never been higher than 45-50%.

According to Quinnipiac, the 70% economy excellent or good figure is just down from an all-time high 73% in December of 2019.

Further, American's confidence in the economy is higher than it has been at any point in the last two decades according to this January Gallup poll:

https://news.gallup.com/poll/283940/economic-confidence-highest-point-2000.aspx

Tom Steyer appeared on ABC Sunday morning show and guest host Martha Raddatz raised some of this polling data and Steyer accused her of "standing up for President Trump's version of the economy". Her response was she was simply saying what the poll results were, not "standing up for anybody". This is an problem for Democrats, a majority of Americans view their position and economy favorably. At the same time, polling indicates Democrat candidates would beat Trump in a general election by 4-9 points.

Two of my friends who are not politically active or engaged at all told me they plan to vote for Trump. I said "but he is such an idiot", they look at their economic situation and their retirement savings and feel things have been going pretty well so why vote to change that. One is hourly one is salary in local management positions for large public companies.

It is an interesting challenge for Democrats. Fortunately for them they can continually point out how reckless and asinine this President is...but I guess it all boils down to "how you doin' "(Joey from Friends voice because it makes me laugh).

What really matters is how people in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Florida think they're doing. California's economy is booming, but they know it has nothing to do with Trump. National polls mean nothing. What we need is polls in the key swing states.

Voters in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania say the economy is their #1 issue. Voters in Wisconsin placed it #2 (behind healthcare).

I wouldn't say national polls mean "nothing", but specific polling for specific states would be more important.

As much of a political animal as I am, I've never connected who is in the Oval Office with my own personal financial status or success. We all walk our own path.

Damn. That sounds kinda...conservative of me. Yikes!

Interesting. Slightly favorable numbers for Trump in the key swing states. If those hold, Trump might have a chance.
