I think we all agree on the worthlessness of what I call "audio product". I.E.-Hip Hop since Biggie died, modern country, death metal, "r&b", top forty, and the most disgusting af all genres, christian rock. Also so called jam bands although they have more on the ball than the previously mentioned genres. Having said that I disagree with most of BIGV's list except Kid Rock, Blues Traveler and Jimmy Buffet. I would like to add:
1. Jason Isbell- earnest navel gazing
2. Ozzy Osborne- Sharon's clown puppet.
3. Kansas- I would have put Styx on my list but everyone else beat me to it.
4. Oingo Boingo and anything from Danny Elfman including movie soundtracks- The proverbial nails on a blackboard to my ears.
5. TTB- A waste of talent in support of a soulless front person (see DMB).

Don't need no Top 10 in order to burn in Hell in agony for all eternity......

Music Hell =

1) Bono (U2) in full Jesus mode in an endless monologue / rant telling us that we need to fight poverty, save
the planet and protect little rodents from extinction.

2) Axl Rose (G&R) in his present day coked up and bloated body & ego doing his typical hip swinging
movement and wailing "aww wow waw waaaaa" over and over again.

3) Some generic "artists" smoothly singing and crooning their way through got awful lyrics while rubbing
against each other with some other generic hip-hopper covered in bling-bling rapping and swearing along
and having the guts to call this drivel R'n'B music.

And Hell it is.

If we choose to base Musical Hell on rock star PERSONA (i.e. - those "rock stars" who take themselves too damned seriously and tend to get all preachy and stuff), I'd have to include:

1. Carlos Santana (children in the audience invited to come down to the stage and touch the hem of his guitar strap)
2. Mike (er, Michael) Stipe ( I actually liked REM, but Stipey Boy kinda wore on my last nerve at a time or two there)
3. The entire cast of No Nukes (I would've appreciated the message more if they had just picked a venue that wasn't nuclear powered! Short thinking and lack of research on somebody's part!).
4. Sir Paul (I love Macca- love the Beatles! No bigger fan, than I exists! But I also love barbecue! He and late wife, Linda reportedly let go several crew members after finding fast food discards backstage. You make the music - I'll pick my diet. Alright?)

All in good fun, of course. 😉

Could add Eddie Vedder to that list. He talked way to much when I saw Pearl Jam last fall. Of course the STS9 show I saw a few days before that had banter only right before set break, which where probably the only word s said from stage that night.

I've yet to hear anything by CCR that does not sound like it could be played by a bunch of 12 year olds who've been practicing for less than 6 months...

A lot of the greatest rock 'n' roll songs ever written are very simple compositions. How many have YOU written?

Umm, that would be zero. But that in itself should not detract from what I feel is a definite lack of improvisational ability. Their music is pretty primitive to these ears and therefore a big part of what would be my own personal music hell.
Cool

That's quite a statement, I bet Derek would think you're a real winner.... as I do.

It's something to have an opinion but I think questioning someones soul is going a bit too far. I don't know you but I'm certain I wouldn't want to know someone like you.... I think soulless might reflect on your own personality.

I think I've been very respectful in what I really want to post on your insane statement.

There is no doubt that CCR was not a jam band and they play 3 chord rock....but they wrote some really good songs. Fogerty has a very unique voice and their songs had nice arrangements....Good tunes to sing along with

YMMV Grin

Musical Hell could also easily be chained to a post next to a radio tuned to a "classic rock" radio format station.

Lots of my favorite - and some of the greatest music ever made - played into the ground. As much as I love and respect Pink Floyd (for example - there are certainly others) - they've just been played to the point to where I hit the scan button when they come on the radio. You can certainly get too much of a good thing!

That exactly why I seldom listen to the radio , and the fact that I own a lot of music that I can play .

Thank you so much as I dig Susan too. I haven't read this entire thread but whoever said she has no soul certainly has not heard her Hope and Desire record.

Me neither, add Pink Floyd to the list of artists "I don't get"...their music is well, depressing.

I've disagreed with you here over CCR Vince but I'll have to jump on board with your opinion of Pink Floyd. I LOVE Wish You Were Here, I think it's a great record. The Wall is not on that level, but a pretty good record as well. After that...........you could throw the rest of it in the ocean as far as I'm concerned, and yeah, a lot of it is depressing. Hard for me to understand why Dark Side Of The Moon is one of the most overplayed records in the history of rock radio. If I hear "Time" one more goddamn 'time'............. The record was a novelty of studio innovation when it came out. I didn't need to have the record rammed down my throat 500 times........and yes, a lot of it sounds like someone is about ready to slit their wrists. Just don't get the obsession with this record.

Agreed. You can not like her voice or the band's music, I get that, that's what this thread is all about. But I have yet to see a crowd NOT be blown away by Susan's voice on "Midnight in Harlem" at a TTB show. She has jars full of soul in her cupboard.

I'm sure he is along with Susan of course forced Derek to breakup the DTB and has diminished his guitar to a backup instrument to support her....as others describe...soulless voice......and is holding back Derek's musical creativeness and future growth as a geetar player

....haters....do I have that summed up????

Ditto for seldom listening to commercial radio. If I hear Stairway one more time I swear I will vomit. Can you say overrated ?
