That's the closest anyone's come to my personal music hell so far in this thread. And I agree with the missing "IT" factor (I call it "Soul")

Nothing there I disagree with.

Potentially tortured great minds think alike? 😉

That is funny that we share the same music hell. That "IT" factor could be called Soul for sure. I bet if we listed our favorite musicians the list sure would be very close.

As long as there's music it can't be Hell.

Hell is NO music...

Music hell...

Beyonce
Mozart
Dixieland Jazz
Manzarek's solo on "Light My Fire" on endless repeat
The lead guitar solo on "Crimson and Clover" on endless repeat
John Philip Sousa
Any of Joni Mitchell's jazz attempts
P.J. Harvey and Nick Cave (the soundtrack to my divorce, the ONLY music my ex ever played, riding in her car was actual torture)
Elton John except for Rocket Man and Daniel
Frank Sinatra
Heart
Styx
Nugent
Barry Manilow
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir

99.9% of all music ever made on this planet, now that I think of it, we are in music hell already, I would hate to think it could get worse than this.

An interesting and highly personal choice but....Mozart, Frank Sinatra?! WTF?!

If you mean Joni Mtchell's Mingus album, it's not her best but I wouldn't put it in music hell. If you mean anything else, see Mozart and Sinatra above.

Personally, Rocket Man and Daniel would be close to muzak hell for me but, again, that's personal choice.

For me, it would be:

Hip Hop
Rap
Anything which calls itself Metal
Anything wilfully MOR
95% of opera
70s Punk Rock
Free form Jazz - Anthony Braxton and Pharoah Sanders come to mind
R & B which has neither Rhythm nor Blues
Dixieland Jazz
Pan Pipes

Ok, let's say something goes terribly wrong during your demise here on Earth and you end up in well, Hell. The devil has cooked up something special for you, that's right an eternity of music you absolutely despise. Name the 10 bands or artists that would make up your own personal Hell.

1) Creedence Clearwater revival
2) Jimmy Buffet
3) John Denver
4) Any band that features Bob Weir's vocals
5) Chicago
6) Phish
7) Kid Rock
8) Blues Traveler
9) The Grateful Dead
10) U2

I enjoy and actively listen to every single one of the artists on your list. I love old classic country music, music from Broadway musicals, polka music, soul music and rhythm and blues. I I'd be happy if I never heard any Bobby Vinton, Bobby Goldsborough, Tommy Rowe, or the Archies. But I'm lucky because I like just about all music. Lately I've been listening to Buck Owens and the Buckaroos - their version of Johnny B Goode on their Carnegie Hall album is about the best I've heard.

Guess I feel sort of sorry for some of you folks who hate a lot of great music, such as the Mormon Taberbacle Choir. It's very puzzling to me how or why anyone would hate anything that beautiful and perfect. That's about the pinacle of human achievement.

I've yet to hear anything by CCR that does not sound like it could be played by a bunch of 12 year olds who've been practicing for less than 6 months...

A lot of the greatest rock 'n' roll songs ever written are very simple compositions. How many have YOU written?

10. Red Hot Chilli Peppers(tied)

Hard for me to understand RHCP being on anyone's list, and a couple of different people chose them. Have you guys ever heard Californication? What a mind-blower of a record.

1. Hip Hop- especially Kanye West
2. My young daughters modern top 10 type music
3. New Country music- I am with you on this one Rusty. I love old time country like Cash, Nelson etc.
4. Sting- my wife loves this guy and tortures me with his music
5. 80's New Wave like Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, The Cure etc.
6. Electronic Dance Music- if they wanted to break me under questioning just play this for 24 hours and I will confess to anything.
7. Michael Buble- cheesy lounge singer IMHO. Another singer my wife tortures me with
8. Dave Matthews- great musicians but his music puts me to sleep
9. Most 70's/80's punk rock- sounds like noise to me
10. Thrash metal- hate the vocals that sounds like a dog growling and barking

As others have mentioned, that is one damn good list. Particularly:

1. Sting. I loved The Police, but I NEVER could stand anything Sting ever did solo. To me he's just overblown, melodramatic, and way, way too serious. Michael Bolton reincarnated.

2. "Electronic Dance Music- if they wanted to break me under questioning just play this for 24 hours and I'll confess to anything."
That's funny, and I sure do agree.

3. Thrash metal. Out of curiosity, I saw Hank Williams III maybe six or seven years ago. The first set was the most barn-burning down home country music that you've ever heard. The second set made me want to puke.........THE MOST extreme, ultra-fast speed lick thrash metal you could imagine, complete with a lead singer who smashed the mike into his forehead until he drew blood (fake, I'm sure). I wanted to catch the entire show but after 1/2 hour of this trash I just could not take it ANY more. I saw Michael Schenker only a month ago and he was great, but all three opening bands were playing this same kind of trash. I asked my buddy.........."What do you do when you put this in the stereo at home? Bang your head against the wall?"

This thread is a hoot! Interesting to see all the differences. I can't believe there's little love for Sinatra (one of the greats, imo) and '70's punk (The Clash?!?), u2 and CCR, RHCP's and Chicago. I read somewhere that Hendrix was a big fan of the guitarist in Chicago. I get that this is little love for Rap and hip hop (although I do enjoy some, it's not my fave) Oh, and I have a live show of Hank Williams III and I can't listen to that 2nd set of noise, either!! Anyhow, to add to the controversy, here's my list:

Whitesnake
Ratt
Scorpions
Poison (see a pattern here)
New age (Enya, yuk)
Air supply
Iron and Wine
Trash/heavy metal
Nu country (excepts Brad Paisley for his guitar work)

There are bands I don't care for (rush, MTB, Bon Jovi, Nugent, Billy Joel, etc.) but I like some songs and wouldn't consider it HELL to listen to them from time to time

PS

Add Katy Perry's, "Eye of the Tiger" to my list. That's another one that makes me wanna go all Hulk/Ben Grimm (Thing) and smash radios and sound systems.

The other day while driving (terrestrial radio), I heard Terry Jacks', "Seasons in the Sun". I quickly hit a new station button ... the same tune was playing. I swear to God, I went to another station and the song was playing on it! I thought I had died and gone straight to Hell without passing Go.

I walk into Hell, and it's 2003-2014 that I have to relive on endless loop...fortunately, I think to myself, no worries, since there's plenty of great new music from the ABB to come, since they just released that smokin' comeback album Hittin' the Note...

-oh, wait...

Whitesnake
Ratt
Scorpions
Poison (see a pattern here)

I don't think the early years of Whitesnake or the Scorpions fit in with your pattern. For both bands pre-(probably) 1984 they were just good solid rock bands. Starting with the mid-80's they both adopted a sound that was selling records and changed their image. However prior to that time period both were fairly good bands. Whitesnake even had Ian Paice and Jon Lord in it for most of the early 80's and you can't go wrong with either of those.

wow, some pretty good music and bands on the list here. very personal indeed. I enjoy Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen a great deal. Wish Billy did not stop writing music but his talent is amazing IMO. Bruce to me is one of the greats. People here probably would bash Sting as well. LOL

There is a lot of annoying, or just plain bad music out there.

But if there was a soundtrack to hell, hands down, it would be the Shaggs.

based off of some of the comments here i just want to clarify one thing. metallica, megadeth, slayer, anthrax, testament, overkill, etc are thrash metal. no cookie monster vocals there folks. what most of you are talking about is actually death metal

Don't need no Top 10 in order to burn in Hell in agony for all eternity......

Music Hell =

1) Bono (U2) in full Jesus mode in an endless monologue / rant telling us that we need to fight poverty, save
the planet and protect little rodents from extinction.

2) Axl Rose (G&R) in his present day coked up and bloated body & ego doing his typical hip swinging
movement and wailing "aww wow waw waaaaa" over and over again.

3) Some generic "artists" smoothly singing and crooning their way through got awful lyrics while rubbing
against each other with some other generic hip-hopper covered in bling-bling rapping and swearing along
and having the guts to call this drivel R'n'B music.

And Hell it is.
