I've got 338 names on a 9 year long running potential band name list. My favorite - for a blues band: The Red Devil Liars.

We did this before a few years ago, but:

The Bentwood Rockers (or "Brentwood" if you're near Nashville)
Buzzy Frets
Toadfish (after a strange creature found on my fishing line the other day)

I got more - I'll get back.

Mongoose

I always thought that might be a good name for a straight ahead hard rock band .

cool names. Mongoose for straight ahead reminded me of one: Bloodgroove for straight ahead too. Maybe too Nugentish, but pretty cool.

Not mine, but from ( priceless ) Jack Black in 'High Fidelity' - Sonic Death Monkey:

Edit: If you haven't seen High Fidelity, I highly recommend it.

Other band names from Jack Black: Kathleen Turner Overdrive, Barry Jive and the Uptown Five

His rendition of 'Let's Get it On' is worth watching the move alone:

The Tuners

The first band I was ever in; we all had the worst of the worst for instruments, none of our guitars would stay in tune for more than one or two songs. One night at a house party, someone yelled, "You guys oughta change your name to the Tuners".....as we were telling them we were "The Almost Brothers Band"

remember back in high school someone had a really cool name for a band but wouldn't reveal it, because then it would get "stolen". like a cool name was all that was needed to rocket to Van Halen-like success. heh,heh

Some funny ones that were actual bands:
1) jiggle the handle
2) Vertical smile
3) Bloody elephants
4) Jerry Rosebud and the Brown Ringers

ok, cool, yeah I was looking for the original thread, couldn't find it.

Here's a couple horribles:

Necrofelchyr
and

Umlaut, for a krautrock parody, cant do the name justice here, there is an umlaut over every vowel.

I suggested a name for a band, which would've been their name except the project never got off the ground. So therefore the name is still available...

I thnk I saw Jiggle the Handle up in Maine at Sunday River.

when I was in college I was in 2 short lived bands. I think the 1st band actually got paid - a little

The Spirit of Bird (jazz band)
The Bloody Stools (punk band we formed as a joke for a fraternity talent show)

Likewise with my short lived band, RIVER RUN. Drummer moved to Frankilin, TN and the guitarist enrolled at Miss St University.
