Monday, 8/19/19: It was Aaron Neville! Great version of Midnight Rider, three part harmonies.
Aaron opened for Boz Scaggs @ The Mountain Winery in Saratoga. I will first be honest and say that at 78 years old, Aaron is struggling to hit the notes a bit more than I remember. I've seen him multiple times, all with The Neville Brothers, but the last one was 11 years ago. That said, it didn't tarnish the show much at all. If I could define his set in one word, it would be SPIRITUAL. Lots of 60's Soul classics like Change Is Gonna Come, Tell It Like It Is, Georgia, Ain't No Sunshine, etc, etc, Yellow Moon and Amazing Grace. I still love his voice even though it's not what it was. He had a quartet behind him: Guitar, bass, drums, keys. They were excellent.
FYI Boz is 75 now. He had some health problems recently which caused him to cancel a couple of weeks worth of shows in late June/early July but obviously he's fully recovered.
Boz was Boz..............nothing short of great. Lots of hits: Lido, Lowdown, It's Over and the beautiful Sierra and Harbor Lights. Played some blues including a surprise rendition of Neil Young's On The Beach. Several new tunes as well.........EVERYTHING was good and Boz' voice has lost NOTHING. His band as you would expect was just off the HOOK, a 7 piece, including Willie Weeks on bass who looks about 40 years old; I would guess he would have to be in his 70's (who hasn't Willie played with?) Sax player was just WAY off the charts and as if that wasn't enough he played keys and a little guitar too. Another musician played several keyboards including a Hammond.

Thx for the report, sounds like a stellar show, in a magical place too. I could almost hear Neville singing Midnight Rider in my mind's ear - I bet that was a thrilling surprise.
