the two things in life that i'm most passionate about are music and soccer. in many ways, i compare lionel messi with derek trucks, with their approach to improvisation.
the world cup is something that is one of the most exciting events in the world. and now, in 2018, the us mens team will be watching from home. on the other hand, today is a national holiday in panama, where they advanced to play in the Cup.
any other soccer heads out there?
For European standards a moderate soccer fan here. Hardly ever watch our national competition but really like watching The European and World Championships every 4 years. The team of The Netherlands hasn't qualified for the World Champion Tournament in Russia either. Played poorly so didn't deserve it but a pity just the same; makes watching less interesting (and stressful haha).
I love watching the Premier League on Saturday and Sunday mornings. My kids are big MU fans. Will watch the internationals when they break out for that as well. Really really looking forward to the World Cup!
Have never seen an MLS game. Sully, do you go to Red Bulls or NYCFC ever?
Follow WC but not as much as EPL (Newcastle United), Ligue Un (Saint Etienne), La Liga no team but try to catch Messi and Renaldo when I can.

Started following Dortmund because of Pulisic. I go watch Premier League games every now and then on the weekends.

Shocked the Dutch didn't qualify. Johan Cruyff must be rolling over in his grave.
Don't follow much soccer but the World Cup is must watch for me. Probably my favorite tournament after the Stanley Cup. The US squad has been asking for a wake up call like this for a loooong time.

Talk about the most boring sport ever invented. Hopefully the coverage in the US is less than the last go round. Not sure what is exciting about everyone running around midfield for 90 minutes, with scoring limited to corner kicks or penalty kicks at the 97th minute.
For non stop excitement, you would want to watch the NHL playoffs. No sport matches the intensity, stamina and skill level.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on the "ghost" goal awarded to Trinidad which led to the US's elimination.
It seems extraordinary that FIFA has not implemented goal-line technology for the World Cup qualifiers - it's hardly lacking in cash as an organisaton.
I have reservations about watching the World Cup in Russia for political reasons.
Much as I love soccer/ football, a lot of the matches at World Cup finals can be sterile, especially in the group stage where pragmatism often prevails.
It would be good to see Asian and African countries mount more of a challenge too.
