Who Lied, Derek Trucks or David Sperro?

When Gregg said "....of course we reached out to him...." and David Sperro called him a liar and insisted there had been no contact, many here came to Sperro's defense and insisted that he knows everything that goes on in Dickey's world. Many just accepted that Gregg was making it up as he went along. If you think Gregg was deceitful, then it looks like Derek may be a partner in crime. I know it doesn't matter in the sense that it's over & DB didn't show. But it does matter that they tried and that DB DID have the option to say yes or no. I believe Derek & Gregg.

One circle left incomplete was the Allmans' relationship with original guitarist Dickey Betts, who was fired in 2000 after years of mounting tensions. Derek reveals that there was "a lot of communication between his camp and our camp" about Betts joining the group onstage at the Beacon – "right up to rehearsal, even during the show week" – but to no avail. Each side, Derek claims, let the notion die.
"It's too much history," he says, a glancing reference to Betts' dismissal, "to wrap up in showing up and playing a set. I know he should have been there. But it was like, 'If no one's jumping on it, it wasn't meant to happen.'?" Ultimately, Betts was represented on the 28th by the Allmans' performance of his compositions "Revival" and "Blue Sky" and Derek and Haynes' elegant, sighing guitar harmonies in Betts' signature instrumental, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

I'll go with Derek and Dickey gave that extensive interview and not one word saying he wanted to sit in. Never for one second did I think there was any way Dickey wanted to play when in his mind the band ended long ago and he has made that as plain as could be.

OK, so you missed the point. Trying again only typing a little slower this time. Was there communication between the two camps about DB possibly sitting in or not? To say not you gotta say Derek is lying.

Ah, I did not miss the point at all. David Spero is lying. Is that plain enough for ya?

My point was I already knew Spero was lying form the Dickey interview.

Crystal Clear now, My mistake. Thanks for playing!

Trouble maker.
😉

I really do need to work on that...

THIS is going to be productive.
In situations like this I usually assume the truth is in the middle: someone talked to someone, not everything was official, nobody formally said 'no.' We know what ultimately happened and regardless of who said what to whom, we know why it happened. Does it matter?
That's not intended to be a criticism of KCJimmy or anything. It's just that there's no way to know much of anything here. And now, after a mere 14 1/2 years, we can't even argue about Dickey playing with the ABB again. 🙁

Of course it doesn't matter. But, we are in a society now that has to have that peak behind the curtain. We have to know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING.

Never for one second did I think there was any way Dickey wanted to play when in his mind the band ended long ago and he has made that as plain as could be.
Doesn't get any plainer than that...

At this point it doesn't matter. It's done. That moment is gone.

Mon night show: Frankly, I am glad (never thought I would say that publically) DB did not show.
DB kept the band together an hard to argue the commerical fame Brothers and Sisters brought to the band but that being said: The 2nd set Mon night was awesome and would not have been better with DB in attendence. Thank goodness he did not interrup an amazing set...

DB kept the band going during some of the early hard times post Duane & Berry passing. I've caught him solo couple times and forever grateful for his contributions to the band.

DB kept the band going after the hard times post Duane & Berry passing untill 2000.
Fixed that for you. 😉

Even though they were broken up for a lot of that time. Nobody else in the band for 30 years counted. Excellent work.

It's nice to know there is still some common sense.

derek would NOT lie. who cares. dickey didn't show. the band was inspired, played their balls off, every one of them. they could not have ended better. maybe bigger but not better. IT'S OVER. REST IN PEACH. LONG LIVE THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND

Alright, enough of this. I am David Spero, and while I admire that someone might pretend to be me, there is only one of me. Me. At any rate, there has been no, I repeat, no communication between anyone in the ABB camp and Dickey or anyone here. Feel free to reach out, my number is 216-381-5544. Dickey has been misrepresented and disrespected by Gregg, Butch and various members of the ABB family for many a moon. For the record, Dickey is not on a hunting trip and would be tickled pink to receive an invite or any positive communication from Gregg or the family
Someone could call him and ask him if it was he or Derek that lied.

oh! if i knew that i would not have gone to new york to see the best all man brothers shows i have seen in years……YA RIGHT! good night. who cares? who cares about an AGENT anyways???

Someone could call him and ask him if it was he or Derek that lied.
How did you find a worse idea? 😉 FTR I've been told that's really his number. That doesn't answer the question you asked before.

I can't see Derek lying about it so I'm lead to believe they attempted to reach Dickey or they told Derek they tried (it would be a pretty weird thing to pretend you made multiple attempts and have to not made one at all...he'd figure it out at some point).
And figured if they did try to reach Dickey it was probably Jaimoe reaching out to Dickey and not going through managers. Doesn't matter. Would have made for a great emotional moment but I'm not sure the music would have been better for it.

I love this picture.

it would have been like being invited to your ex-wife's (14 yrs after a bad breakup) wedding. who would want to respond or go to that?

I love this picture.

Gregg: "AAAAAA!!! Warren! Stop sticking your finger up my ass!!"

I love this picture.

I could be wrong but I don't think it was taken by Kirk. A younger, dark haired guy took it {I think} from the area of Jaimoe's drum kit.

And some folks actually believed there would be nothing to talk about after the last show...
