What's Your Top Album of the Year (2014)

Bob Dylan-Another Self Portrait
The Band-Live at The Academy
ABB-B&S Boxset

My two cents:
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band ~ Goin' Home
Joe Bonamassa ~ Different Shades of Blue
Walter Trout ~ The Blues Came Callin'
Devon Allman ~ Ragged & Dirty

I got Jerry Lee Lewis' new on "Rock and Roll Time" for Christmas. It is definitely my favorite album of the year. Derek, and a bunch of others guest on this album of all covers. A great band doing a very fine job on all the tunes.
Prior to hearing the title track on WNCW last month, I had never listened to Jerry Lee Lewis at all. But, that track really drew me in, and there are a bunch of real gems on the record.
Also picked up Hard Working Americans, because of all the love on here. Have only listened one time through. Didn't really move me, but I did like it. I'll listen to it several more times, I am sure, before I reach an ultimate opinion.

War on Drugs milage varies but the record will grow on you, i didn't think much of it at first either. In Reverse is a great song.
Since this thread started, I've gotten into Sturgil Simpson who I see mentioned here. Wow. This guy is great. Reminds me of Waylon Jennings. Great song subjects. The perfect answer to pop/bro country that's in vogue now. He was # 1 on the American Songwriters best albums of 2014 list.
Been also into a band called Strand of Oaks. The guy has sort of an 80's sound which I doubt will be popular with ABB fans but another album worth giving time to. it's called Heal. Look up the guy's (tim Showalter) interviews on youtube. He's a huge music fan and just seems over whelmed that his record has been well received. My friend saw him at the bowery ballroom in NYC and said he jumped of the stage at the end of the night and hung out and chatted with anyone who wanted to talk. A very personal record that seems to be resonating with listeners.

sort of a thread turn but Sturgil Simpson had me thinking that "they" are always trying to push forward the anti nashville machine country singer who seems to turn out as fake as the others. A few years ago it was Dirks Bently and Eric Church. Nothing really against those guys but they're just more of the same to me. Sturgil is the real deal IMO.
Ryan Bingham seems pretty genuine also. Saw him live recently solo acoustic. Pretty good show.

I like Strand of Oaks, and Sturgill Simpson is gonna be at the Stone Pony, I think some time in February, gonna check him out.

My favourite disc of 2014 was Ryan Adams' latest - an absolute joy to listen to. As
for archival material......the ABB Fillmore box and the recent Stones LA '75, which is
a killer live set.

The complete Fillmore Concerts box set - ABB
Brothers & Sisters Deluxe 4 disc set with out-takes & live show - ABB
CSNY 1974 box set
The Breeze - JJ Cale tribute by EC & Friends
Going Back Home - Wilko Johnson & Roger Daltry

Paul Thorn won WNKU.ORG top 89 albums of 2014.
Check out their live stream if you can. They play great music...not the canned stuff.

So glad to hear all the complimentary sentiment re. Sturgill! What a breath of fresh air. From a VERY discerning country fan...the answer to the HORRIFYING "Bro-Cuntry" genre. I video'd his Charleston, SC show...it'd turned out excellent. I'll be sharing in the Vines section as soon as I figure out how to convert the mini-discs to sharable-format. His lead-player...very "Eddy Shaver"-esque. A compliment of the highest order.
