What band of the ABB members interest you the most

Now that the members of the ABB have gone their own way. What current ABB family bands do you prefer?
my order
1.Govt mule-they just get better and better
2.Gregg + Friends - I am really interested to see what the new songs Scott and gregg have wrote sound like.
3.TTB-On some nights they probably would rank #1 on my list
4.Dickey betts (I still consider him a ABB family member)
5.Warren haynes band
6.jaimoes
7.oteil-can't say I have listened to oteils music all that much.

You forgot "Butch and Friends"...
Or, as some would say...Butch and "friends"?! 😉

Going to see the TTB this Saturday at the Boston HOB but have to say Gov't Mule is probably my favorite band right now. I have never seen them live, as every time they toured the Boston area recently I had some type of conflict, but I am really looking forward to them touring this coming year.

The Betts Trucks Alliance 😛

1. Gov't Mule
2. Dickey Betts and whatever band he has backing him
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9. TTB

unfortunately I don't think there's any close comparison between the Allman Brothers & any of these bands. Not to diminish anything these other bands are doing but,but to me anyway, ABB have always stood alone. Now if we compare one of the earlier renditions of ABB (not the original or final) then, perhaps the comparison is closer.
Possibly someday in the future one of these incarnations may mix it up enough...& with the right chemistry may come along & be a closer 2nd. I'm sure the key players of ABB inately know that what they had in ABB will likely 'never' be duplicated again. But who interests me the most is probably TTB. (if they throw Dickey in the mix, even better)..if Oteil happens to jump onstage who knows where things could go & perhaps some magic special could occur again. I guess thats what its all about to me,there's a lot of great bands out there, but there are very few with the 'perfect' chemistry, who capture that special...Magic! I can see Derek & Warren both being aware of that & perhaps be daring enough to mix it up enough & risk it all again in the future. For some unknown reason, Duane was able to visualize it & accomplish it originally & took the Huge risks along the way. Maybe he visited the Mississippi Crossroads too like..Robt Johnson and paid the ultimate price too...like Robert !

GAB

The bands that interest me the most are TTB, ScoMule, and the Warren Haynes Band. My favorite of the ABB derivatives is Gov't Mule.
I've seen TTB in theaters 4 times, a couple more times at festivals. I think they have the greatest range of any of the ABB related bands. Last night in Richmond there were times they channeled Ray Charles, James Brown's band, Van Morrison's big band, Gil Scott Heron's jazz chemistry... then there was southern blues, 60's psychedelia, and ABB slide. There were fits and starts in last night's show. It was not the smoothest of their performances but - the highs were very high and the encore with Ron Holloway was truly fantastic.
I'll be seeing them two nights at the Warner in February and I'll watch their stream tonight. They played at least 4 songs last night that I didn't recognize. Include those with the Fire and Rain encore and some of the other covers they are performing and I can clearly see that they are expanding their catalog. TTB is evolving and I really believe they are the only band doing what they are doing.
ScoMule interests me because I believe John Scofield obliterates Warren's comfort zone. When I see them together it looks like Warren is studying John. With the iterations of Phil & Friends, when I've seen the two of them play Warren really focuses on what Scofield is doing. I vaguely remember the ScoMule show at the Roxy. I know I was awed and that it was a frenetic night of music but I don't clearly remember the bands' interactions. I'm really "interested" in the upcoming ScoMule show in Charlottesville. Looking forward to it.
I listend to the Warren Haynes Band show from Lockn' 2013 last night while driving to Richmond. That band was great! I would love a double bill of them and TTB but doubt that will ever happen. Way too many mouths to feed on that bill.
All in all I think the post ABB musical future looks bright.

1. Gov't Mule
2. Tedeschi Trucks Band
3. Warren Haynes band
4. Dickey Betts & Great Southern
5. Gregg Allman & Band / Friends

Well, I plan to transfer most of my Allman Brother's Band energies over to the Tedeschi-Trucks Band (or whatever Derek does in the future).
I am always interested in any project that Oteil is involved with. The Peacemakers were actually my favorite ABB off-shoot. That band has likely played out, but Oteil continues to involve himself with an amazing assortment of musicians and projects - mostly non-mainstream and under the radar. I've never been disappointed in anything that he's been associated with.

Tedeschi Trucks Band and Gov't Mule. Would love to see an Oteil led band.

If the Warren Haynes Band were a full-time band, that's what I'd go with, even though as a rule I prefer Derek's work over Warren's.
The studio and live albums of WHB get far more play than any TTB or Mule albums that I have.
WHB's music fits right in my wheelhouse.
If TTB were to put out a new live album, that might jump it up. Their studio records and first live records don't ever really get into gear. Their live shows most certainly do kick into full drive.

Mule/TTB/Dickey/WHB - no competition as I enjoy them all.

Watching with interest to see what develops now that the individual members no longer have the distraction of the ABB.
I'll happily listen to the TTB any time but hope that it will have a limited shelf life and that Derek will move on to another, more experimental, project.
I expect Govt Mule to continue issuing indifferent studio albums and performing stellar live shows.
Jaimoe's Jasssz Band isn't going to tour Europe (he was the only member not to perform here in the last 20+ years) so they won't be on my radar.
Would like to see Oteil return to the TTB where he had a special relationship with Kofi and Derek.
No interest in GA.

The TTB I saw last night was pretty experimental.

1. Gov't Mule.
Period.
No better band in the land, they NEVER disappoint.

"What band of the ABB members interest you the most?"
Only one I guess, and that's Gregg. But even that may not do, because I get the feeling he is going to be going the route of horns, R & B, etc. Nothing wrong with that, but what I loved about ABB was always those shorter, gutbucket type blues things i.e. 'Low Down Dirty Mean', 'Firing Line', 'Gambler's Roll', 'End of the Line', and then some of the acoustic blues like the Robert Johnson cover, or slower blues things like 'Stormy Monday' or 'Get On With Your Life'.
Admittedly, I'm limited and picky when it comes to music. I'm not really into jam bands, not into horns, not into reggae, and I'm increasingly not into bands where there's 342 people on stage (TTB, etc.). I used to think Gov't Mule would be closest to something I'd like in a post-ABB world, but they seem to lose me also, I love Warren's playing but there's something with them that never quite connected with me. I'm not sure what it is.
Actually, maybe I do know...quite frankly, I'm just not into many different styles of music. It's not that I'm close-minded, it's just I don't like much outside of what I like and that's that. And I like blues-based things the best. I think the ABB got away from that and started taking on too much of this whole TTB family style jam thing where there's too much going on for my taste. I like a band that is a band, like a Crazy Horse, where they don't have 12 people off to the side sitting in on horns. It's too much, just overload. I like stripped down things more.
Now, why did I like the ABB to begin with...? Well, the early stuff, I could hear Jaimoe, for one. There was no percussionist. Later ABB just started to sound like a massive wall of sound. Too much.
So I suppose the best it could get for me would be Gregg doing an album with some blues things on it, relatively small band, etc.

TTB is by far and away my favorite touring band right now - see you at HOB tomorrow night Bill Graham
I would pay to hear Derek play tunes from Mother Goose
after that -
Mule (looking forward to Sco Mule)
WHB
Jaimoe
would love to hear what Oteil's working on
I'm not sure why, but GAB and DBGS take up the rear

1. GAB
2. TTB
3. Dickey

I'll happily listen to the TTB any time but hope that it will have a limited shelf life and that Derek will move on to another, more experimental, project.
The TTB I saw last night was pretty experimental.
My thoughts exactly!

JJB....
😛

Tedeschi-Trucks Band is really the only ABB project that interests me at the moment. Not saying that Govt Mule or Jaimoe's band aren't good bands, but I feel like I know what they have to offer and I'm not curious about their future development the way I am with TTB.
Derek has been my favorite member of the ABB family since he was 12. I don't see that changing.

Gov't Mule
TTB (growing on me slowly)
Rest just fall into about the same spot.

I hope one them steps "outside the box" & puts something together that's so innovative it shakes up the music world again. It just seems so unlikely these days & too much to expect. I know it seems like all the Great things have been seen & done in the past before. I think for that to happen it would have to be a 'side' project from their main bands.
There's been a few in the past I can think of;
Hendrix
Duane, Southern Rock genre
Page & Zeppelin with metal/rock
Sabbath with the metal genre
Dylan
Miles Davis
Robt Johnson
Django Reinhart
Mozart
Pink Floyd
....
to a lesser degree;
Sly Stone 1st w/the bigger band funk/rock Revue mix, more so than Ike & Tina
Jim Morrison w/ his darker poetry style
Ellington
C Berry
Garth Brooks-bringing rockshows to Country
Cobain
.....
I'd love to see Derek step outside the box & do something with Oteil,Doyle Bramhall, maybe a couple of ex DTB members,& an interesting vocalist. Perhaps take a little trip down to the Crossroads for inspiration, lock themselves up at the Shackup Inn or somewhere down there, get really experimental & see where it all takes them. Use their insticts & just play what feels right. Then with a little support & financing (Paul Allen or Zellwinger) for awhile, they could possibly put together their music & a show we've never experienced before. He could bring along a number of known guests/friends he's made over the years to keep it somewhat mainstream to satisfy the masses & get major $ rolling in. Pull on Live Nation friends for support for a major production. It could be something new and exciting & satisfying for all the musicians too, where they wouldn't have to compromise. It would be nice to see Derek filling 18,000 arenas or 50,000 stadiums & having that # of people witnessing his talent,I think he deserves it. Doyles already experienced massive shows thru Roger Waters tour & I think Dereks dues are paid & he has the respect all around that people will listen & it can be put together. But it all starts with the Creative process & the chemistry of the right musicians in the right environment. He could easily surpass Duane's Allman Brothers with the right mix & support. He already earned a Grammy at the end of DTB's life & there's many more awards for the taking.
I,personally,am pretty bored with the state of 'most' music today. I think its time for someone to put something innovative & exciting out there again & wake up the masses. Shake things up! ! There's certainly room & hunger for it! I believe Dereks one who can accomplish it !

Im all about the Mule now.

I really like what Warren and Derek are doing. I am not sure why, but the others kind of bore me? I can't see going out my way to see Butch or Gregg?
I really can't believe every time I see Derek, it doesn't seem possible, but he keeps getting better. I guess with friends like Paul Allen, the TTB have an inside path to the top. I like how they keep putting out new music and pushing the envelope.
The Mule is off the charts and anything Warren does is top notch. I really hope Warren is the main man with The Dead next year. With rumors of Hornsby on board with this project, it really could end up being something special.
I am surprised Gregg and Butch are allowing Derek and Warren to dictate their retirement and it wouldn't surprise me at all if we see another incarnation of the ABB at some point down the line.
I would say there are really good things happening with Derek and Warren and the road does seem to go on forever.

This is too hard to pass up.
1. Dickey Betts and Great Southern (They aren't the best band, but they are my favorite.)
2. Tedeschi Trucks - I saw them Friday and can't wait to see them again - I'm fully on board
3. Warren Haynes Band - I like Warren in this format (like him most with the ABB).
4. Gov't Mule - I've seen them many times - we don't quite connect, but I will still go once in a while. Great band, just too heavy for me (or something).
5. Gregg Allman Band - I've never seen them - tix are usually too expensive for me. I would like to. I was always more into the guitar players than I was into Gregg.
6. Jaimoe's Jazz Band - Honestly - I would love to see these guys - hopefully soon.
7. Butch is heck of a drummer and if he didn't try to make it the Butch show, I think a band with him in it might be damn good.
8. The Marc Quinones Band might be great too - he's awesome.
9. Oteil is the bomb. His band might be a tad too jazzy for me.

Gov't Mule and anything else Warren Haynes is invovled in. The Phil Lesh Q show in Forest Hills was one of the finest live shows I have ever seen.

Mule by far., although the Oteil, Betts & DTB shows I went to a bunch of years ago were excellent & so was most of the couple of TTB shows I've seen on YouTube.
