Just received the UK `grey area' 1979 Merriweather Post Pavilion CD - spinning it now. I
can remember taping this live broadcast on cassette from the radio.

Spun Dreams, Ain't Wastin Time No More, and Wilson Pickett and Duane Allman Hey Jude on the jukebox at the tavern just after midnight. Only 1 credit each - most stuff on there is 2 credits. Dreams always resets the vibe, every time, without fail. Magic sounds.

I always play that Dreams box set and the Duane Anthology. Been delving into Dickey’s solo stuff to see what’s out there. If Clapton is included I’ve been listening albums I didn’t exist from Clapton - Apple Music has like fifty. The Backless album and few others I’ve never heard before. Govt Mule’s Mighty High album seems to always find its way into the rotation.

Been listening to two 1990 ABB shows. July 2 in Atlanta probably my favorite.

The band is high energy and big-time emotion on these shows. Hot...Hot... Don't Want You No More/Cross, Statesboro, Blue Sky, One Way Out and lots of material from their then new album Seven Turns.

Warren, Allen, Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe are really bringing it. Two things that stick out on both shows is Johnny Neal's high energy barrel roll piano playing often sounds misplaced and out of sync with the rest of the band which is very tight. Johnny's harp playing is fine and his lead vocals on The Blues Ain't Nothing are fine and he sounds fine on the album and on Pattern Disruptive so it was surprising. And the Dickey Betts Band and ABB shows I saw with Johnny I remember being very good. Johnny was not rehired by the band when his contact expired at the end of 1990.

The other surprise for me is how Dickey is the hottest musician on stage on several songs. His energy and power, tone and play on Statesboro, Blue Sky, Gamblers Roll etc is stellar.

After some mention of it on this page recently, I also gave Fleetwood Mac "Shrine 69" a spin. Great stuff.

Watched the first night of Clapton at The Beacon from 2009. Several of us from here were there both nights (first night was better). The video is so cool because I couldn't see the stuff that is on the footage from my seat.

Searching For Simplicity. A Gregg gem. Jack Pearson’s slide work is incredible. Great guest appearance by Derek. Red Dog suggested the acoustic Whippin Post, what a great version!

I listened to that myself this morning, just makes me wonder how an ABB album would of sounded with Jack playing on it.
