What an outstanding evening at 3rd & Lindsley. Capacity is supposedly about 500 people. Pal I was with said he'd been to 30-40 shows there and had never seen a crowd that size. Guessed closer to 700 people.
Amazes me how WH is able to adapt and fit in with basically any type music/genre that tickles his fancy. The ABB and Mule - blues rock. Sco-Mule - Jazz. WHB - R&B'ish. The Dead/Phil & Friends - whatever that is...RE - Americana/bluegrass. I'm sure he would do fine w Ozzy or the Eagles or some unknown Delta blues artist in Clarksdale. He can play anything with anybody.
So the show is being simulcast on local radio - which means a precise start/finish time. They start right at 8:00, play 45 minutes, break till 9, then come back for an hour second set. Over at 10:00. All songs from the upcoming release and the "Garth Brooks tune" as the encore.
As different as this music is for WH's recorded output so far, he still plays a lot of guitar, and a lot of slide guitar. Different, but still unmistakably Warren Haynes.

Arguments abound over which was the best guitarist to ever play with the Allman Brother's Band, but Warren Haynes is the official "Swiss Army guitarist". I honestly believe he could play with any band of any genre.

Yes he is great and I mean great I do think there is not another musician like him.I have seen him live so many times you never know what you are going to get.The scomule run of shows was just amazing.
I love Warren, but I don't see his style changing all that much in different settings. A different attitude perhaps.
When I think versatile guitarist from The Allman camp, I think Jack Pearson first. Not here to be a contrarian, though. I love them both. Looking forward to the new WH album, and I listened to a recent YouTube Jack video where he said he was going to try to get out a live release this year.

I believe I read that Mr Pearson has a severe hearing loss which is why he cannot perform on stage as much as he would like

I don't think the intent was to say that Jack is a lesser guitar player because he rarely travels far from Nashville, but it does limit the opportunities he has to play different genres with different bands.
As for Rusty's comment about Warren as a Swiss Army knife, I think Warren is more like a full workshop with every tool there is. To see him play the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration and then watch him play with the ABB or Mule... WOW!!!
...Just want to echo the accolades for Warren Haynes. An amazing singer and guitar player...at least with respect to the music dearest to my heart.

i saw Warren recently with Phil,heard him with Scofield(listened to all the shows and bought their album),saw Mule many times,the Allmans many times and toy my ears he played quite differently in each setting.Jack is a favorite of mine but i do wish there was a chance to see him-his work at the Gregg tribute was outstanding.

Had the privilege to see him with RRE @ the free @ noon show last Friday @ XPN. This man is the consummate professional. Be glad you are able to see this incredible performer, because there ain't many like him.

And it seeems like he does. If you're jamming in your garage on a Tuesday night. Give warren a call, he might show up and sit in.
Caught the show Sunday and agree it was awesome.
Ran into Stef - Mrs Warren - after the show while waiting to get a pic I had taken at an earlier show signed.
She said that Warren had wanted to make this record for about 20 years.
Neat story. Also hanging around in back were JD Simo and Joe Bonamassa, waiting to chat with Warren.
So Warren eventually comes out and proceeds to talk with them about 15-20 minutes.
So also waiting to get a drum head signed is a small girl- about 10 I would guess, there with her dad.
Warren sees her and comes over to sign her stuff and apologizes to her for not coming over sooner.
He spent a few minutes talking to her and signing for her.
He just continues to amaze me as phenoninal musician and a first class human being.
Was a pretty intimate evening being such a small venue (love that place, but that night/venue was a cluster)
Pros: lyrics to new songs are great, with great messages
Cons: about everything else. Railroad Earth was probably the 3rd best "grass" band in Nashville that night, and somehow found a way to make a mandolin drown out a Les Paul. Warren was as pro and gracious as ever, balancing the rides and evening. Heard a guy in bathroom line borrow some plugs and said something like "first time in my 60 yrs a fiddle and mandolin hurt my ears". Kind of agreed.
