Do you know Sicilians are considered the "blacks" of Italy? I'm 1/4 Sicilian and proud.

So let's talk about all of your ancestors who fought for the Union Army and came down South and raped and molested women and children and burned and stole private property. They were a lot better than slave owners? One thing I have learned from this thread is that you people suck as much as your ancestors.

My ancestors came from Sicily at the turn of the 20th century and had nothing to do with the civil war...My grandfather was interned and had a daily curfew during WWII even though he had 4 sons serving in the US Army and Navy....lost one son to pneumonia while recovering from being wounded...

Yes...in fact Naples is like the Mason Dixon line in Italy...and to the rest of Europe all Italians are blacks....but in Italy itself Sicilians are the "mud" people

The word Guinea means that we were from New Guinea and are considered black

Both side of my family are from Sicily......I'm 100% which really means I'm arab, greek, spanish, english and whatever else came ashore in Sicliy 😛

LOL. True. Never been there but I've heard.

>>which really means I'm arab, greek, spanish, english and whatever else came ashore in Sicliy :P>>

I'm 1/4 greek cypriot, 1/4 greek turk (and gypsy) and 1/4 Neapolitan (Napolidan) (as mentioned 1/4 Sicilian) and 100 % Brooklyn. LOL.

I never personally addressed you, just your bass ackwards state. I didn't expect you to be reasonable, nor did I claim to be wise. Your state's elected officials had 50 years to remove the flag and did not budge. Feel free to get the last word, I know your pride needs it.

Luke, you need a history lesson but I'm not going to give it to you. Let me assure you, though, that however backward we may be, we don't have too many people who are more idiotic than you.

Well, Wearly and WarEagle, not everyone agrees with you two. Glad you express your opinions. I say take that flag down and stow it. It represented something different then. It now represents something ugly to many. Have one at your houses, thatis great. Fly it at your house, great. Public places? Take the thing down. The war is over.

And if you had bothered to read any of my prior posts in the first place, you wouldn't have displayed how woefully weak your reading comprehension skills are or how ignorant you are on this subject by agreeing with me now. I don't understand why you keep badgering me.

So this is how the second Civil War is gonna play out... still North Vs. South (Carolina), except from the looks of it, it's not really very civil. I am inclined to side with Luke.

maybe take 5 seconds to research anything. the flag use to fly on the state building and the elected officials had it removed within the last 15 years and instead were having it flown at a civil war memorial. sounds like they did do something and imo did the right thing.

Yes, that point has been made...several times. In your opinion it was the right thing to do, that's fine, this is an open forum. In some people's opinion that was a cop out as that flag does not belong anywhere PERIOD.
The interpretation can be spun anyway you want it, anyway I want it, anyway the "smug bastards" in the media want it, anyway a carpet baggin' yank wants it, anyway a community organizer with an agenda wants it, anyway anyone who's wasted their time arguing this topic wants to spin it. Does that flag remain displayed in several other places all over the world, including my home state? Of course, it's also carved in the TP dispenser at my local Bojangle's, and to me it's just as irritating as it is hanging over any memorial, painted on a drumhead, on the bumper of a Smart car with Canadian plates or anywhere else it may catch me eye.
Now, feel free to call me a smug, hypocritical, intolerant, troll, hyperbolic body part. You can also interpret this post as a retraction or a cop out, but my opinion remains as it was...
Based on my personal experiences and ventures in SC, it is a bass ackward portal to hell. Don't bother telling me to stay out, I do my best. The same thing can be said (albeit for other reasons) of a few other choice regions, counties and cities I have frequented in my travels.

If you want me to go into more detail on these portals and my personal experiences, keep your eyes peeled! I plan on expanding on these in a few years when a thread about how Derek Trucks being asked about growing up in the south but having his own view turns into a full blown circus.

Thank you for providing me the opportunity to include you in the giant gaping rectal crevice club, Lukester. You are the one who had to open his big mouth and insult my home state and the people in it., then you turned around and tried to play the victim after you stirred the poop. I'm not surprised you're too stupid to see that you did exactly what you tried to accuse me of. If the shoe fits, shove it up your tarhole. And I can't wait for the Gamecocks to put the beatdown on you snotty, cheating, soon to be sanctioned, UNC tarholes on 9/03 at 6:00PM on National Television.

White southern soldiers were just as screwed by their overlords as any slave, and used as cannon fodder by the wealthy white minority. All the soldiers, North and South were just "pawns in their game". Like any war. Often, poor whites in the South were treated as badly as black slaves, because, unlike the slaves, they weren't worth a penny. And because the plantation owners had free slave labor, the poor whites got the shaft, and could not work. Yet, to this very day, the ancestors of the poor white majority of the Old South continue to be proud of their heritage, when in fact everyone, black or white, in those days was getting shafted by the elite!

Mark Twain:

...the "poor whites" of our South who were always despised, and frequently insulted, by the slave lords around them, and who owed their base condition simply to the presence of slavery in their midst, were yet pusillanimously ready to side with the slave lords in all political moves for the upholding and perpetuating of slavery, and did also finally shoulder their muskets and pour out their lives in an effort to prevent the destruction of that very institution which degraded them. And there was only one redeeming feature connected with that pitiful piece of history; and that was, that secretly the "poor white" did detest the slave lord, and did feel his own shame. That feeling was not brought to the surface, but the fact that it was there and could have been brought out, under favoring circumstances, was something--in fact it was enough; for it showed that a man is at bottom a man, after all, even if it doesn't show on the outside.

We're both pretty decent at slinging insults, too. Wish we could all cool it.

It never ceases to amaze me how people keep on rallying around the same old dead horses don't the carcasses stink by now? this country and all the sheeple in it will rally about anything if people whip the horse hard enough.

There is no one alive today that ever brought any one to this country against their will and made them a slave! it is time to put it away where it belongs their are instigators on both sides they need to be put in jail!

All this wasted money and energy into the same old song yet it never changes wait !!!!! is their still not a team in the NFL called the Redskins? what no rally or support for the American Indian? You see this $hit just keeps going around and around the toilet bowl it is time to grow up and move on ... is this not what they ask the American Indian to do? well it should apply to all people who think they are discriminated against .

My great great grandfather was a mounted scout under Stonewall Jackson and I am proud of him and the Cherokee people who fought for their way of life, the South lost, the Cherokee lost (even though the supreme court said they won) the trail of tears is over , wounded knee is history, Sand Creek, and all the other Atrocities done to the American Indian are in the past now they are asked and told that it is ok to call them names like Redskin so as far as i am concerned it is time for all races to quit dwelling on the past and get on with it and lets look to the future after all is that not politically correct?

As a born in the south and raised in the south man the stars and bars have NEVER meant to me anything like hate or dislike for Black Americans they won that fight there will be other fights but that is the same for us all, does ISIS say we are only after white Americans? no they are a threat to us all time to get this country back on track and looking in the right direction.

This is completely false as slavery still exists in America and illegals are brought into the U.S. daily and forced into slave labour especially in the sex trades.

The same thing is happening with the name of the Washington Redskins. A Native American group has successfully sued claiming the name is derogatory and that derogatory names can not be trademarked. The reason the name hasn't changed as quickly as the flag was removed from State House grounds is because the Redskins are a private entity. But I feel certain the name will change.

What I don't get about that name is that members of Congress are standing up against the name, yet, it is within the power of Congress to get rid of Columbus Day, a day that honors a man who killed countless Native Americans. When will we see a real push to get rid of Columbus Day? Why doesn't Harry Reid champion that cause?

The problem that keeps coming up here is that people are understandably proud of their hard won histories, be it soldiers, scouts, Cherokee, and all the rest, and some view the current attitude towards the Stars and Bars as a threat to their personal memories.

Most everyone in America, North or South, white, black, Indian, whatever, has an incredible wealth of history, good and bad, and it is all what makes us such a cool country, all the heartbreak passion and loss and victory, man, this has been one amazing movie.

I got no dog in this fight either. Had ancestors on both sides of the line in the civil war. Had indian killers. Had people killed by indians. Had Indians too. No black as far as I know, but recessive genes can be elusive... I sure play a mean blues, so I got some on me somehow!

The Confederate flag is coming down from the state buildings. It will still appear on barroom walls, bumper stickers, t-shirts, wherever, and people will continue to view it however they do, be it a symbol of a lost golden time (which btw is a complete myth, the Southern plantation/slave system was a feudal throwback that was a direct threat to a Union of the States, if left unchecked there would never have been the 20th century middle class. The Southern elite that wanted their own republic did not have the interests of the citizenry at heart, and Northern and Southern soldiers were just MEAT, despite all that Swanee River Dixieland Gone With the Wind propaganda, most whites in the south were dirt poor sharecroppers), or they will see it as a banner of total hate and racism to wave while wearing white sheets, or in my case, a memory of a wasted freak at Watkins Glen running around naked waving a Confederate flag hollering "Freaks! Freaks! Nothing but a bunch of GODDAM FREAKS!" as the first marijuana buzz of my life kicked in and I couldn't stop laughing...actually a fond memory of the Confederate flag!

So, nobody is taking any of that away. It is still a free country, and we can be as ugly or beautiful as we choose. The flag is coming down. So what. Nobody really gives a sh*t what anyone else thinks about anything anyway. If you care so much, tattoo the Stars and Bars on your *ss so every time you take a dump you will do to that flag what should be done to every flag. Flags... give me a goddam break. If I ever hear another word about a flag, any flag, it will be too soon!

"It ain't nothin but a flag,
Just a dirty blood-soaked rag..."

What are you talking about? They are brought into the U.S. by people in the U.S. and are used as slave labor. Same as women from Eastern Europe imported here and forced into the sex trade.

You don't need to be brought into the US in chains to be a slave my friend.

good point. Got me there. I actually knew that, just forgot for a sec. Well, throw that one on the burn pile too, and let's move on.

Too bad only the Confederate battle flag has been singled out, since the current public reaction is a healthy response to a flag, but folks are too brainwashed to see that all flags are the red cape that kings wave at the idiot rabble bull herd to get them to charge at the enemy.

Look, maybe you think fools are cool, how about the possibility that an entire generation was dosed by the CIA? Ever think of that? How about all those thousands of people who never came back from Woodstock? Just vanished! How about Max Yasgur's bumper corn crop five years running after the concert? All that flag means to me is HIPPY COMPOST, man!!!!
