every business has bills to pay, has responsibilities to employees. Tax , licensing and insurance alone is often enough to break the bank in my experience as a business owner.

Not trying to argue with you. Smile I've been an accountant for 25 years and I've seen pretty much everything. I just find it hard to believe he needs money unless he was screwed over or pissed it all away.

Just my take. 😉

Lots of divorces knocks out a huge chunk of those earnings. Probably still a good amount to his name, but likely not as much as most think.

I think a lot of the reason we don't see more archival releases is due to the band having bad deals over the years and not having the rights to their own music.

I'm a little surprised this part of the interview hasn't gotten more attention...

"I am very proud of how the Allman Brothers finished up; we did it on our own terms, and we went out on top. I never wanted us to become a parody of ourselves, and I know my brother would have approved. It's over now, and I'm very happy to be focusing on my solo career."

If that isn't definitive enough for people, I don't know what it would take. Gregg could always change his mind. of course, but that quote is like a big neon sign flashing "THE ABB IS OVER FOREVER."

It's interesting that Queen Of Hearts was the song that sparked Gregg's solo career. I never really cared for that song, or Gregg's solo work in general, so I guess that makes sense.

Queen of Hearts fan here! Can't say I'm a fan of everything, I one Gregg show year is about right for me....but Laid Back, Gregg Allman Tour, Searching For Simplicity, that great 10-8-94 Birmingham bootleg, and to some degree Low Country Blues get airplay in our house.

This particular interview makes Gregg sound clear headed and happy. Not sure why people have much negative to say about it....beyond "I'll see it when I believe it" concerning All Compositions...

When Gregg was making the rounds to promote his book, he was clearly not recovered from serious medical situations and should not have been out on the road doing those. I felt bad for him as those interviews were rough. By then end of that year, he was in a much better place.

He's never been a great interview, but he'd do a much better one now.

I've got all of those you mentioned. I think all are A+ except LCB. For me, LCB is a bit redundant. Taste is relative, and I just need a bit more than several three chord blues songs or similar on one album. Don't get me wrong - I love blues tunes...just want a bit more variaition in an album than what LCB presents.

As far as "Queen of Hearts" - I've always thought it is a masterpiece of a song. The chords are great, fine lyric, and wonderful arrangement. Love the solos in this song alternating with sax and piano. The orchestra version was exceptionally impressive.

From everything I've seen Gregg is basically a pretty shy person except if you put him in front of a microphone or with people he knows and trusts. He is well aware that journalists twist things, intentionally or not. I think over the years he's learned to cope by repeating the same things over and over. He wrote a pretty revealing book. Not sure what more people want.

Gregg has a hot band, he can tour as he likes, is enjoying his life. Things don't get better than that. He's had fame, he does have people to pay - it's called his band and management company - and having a solid career into his 70's after all the health problems is looking very likely.

He'll give you your money's worth for a show right now. Catch him while you can.

I guess I like Low Country Blues more than most, I think there is a lot of great stuff going on. I never understand the antipathy towards it, and I take it as mostly fan wanting more of the same rather what the artist want to produce. Plus I'm a big fan of old old blues songs. I don't find it redundant, I love hearing Gregg take on some great old tunes from Little Milton to the more obscure. Got to keep those songs alive.

I've always been luke warm towards Searching For Simplicity. Lots of fantastic performances, a few really nice covers ("I've Got News For You", "Whipping Post"), and a lot of really, really dumb new songs ("Rendevous With The House of the Blueserwhater"?). Then again, it was released the same time as The Gregg Allman Anthology, which immediately pushed Simplicity aside for me.

I'll take "Floating Bridge" over the junk that was "Silence Ain't Golden" any freaking day.

How often have you heard people say they wanted Gregg to make a blues album?

LCB.
