Both wonderful shows, though this new venue is kinda meh: a big concrete block with very pricey beer. I preferred the Saturday setlist overall.
On Friday, "Woman to Woman" was not a starter that got the crowd fired up. The poor camera operator could not keep up with the changing vocalists either. The next song, "Statesboro," lit the place up! However, the camera focused on Susan playing rhythm for the start of Derek's solo. Lol. "Playing with My Emotions" had a lengthy hypnotic coda, very Hendrixy but with witchy vocals. "Shame" was epic. I'm not in love with the actual song, but the jams during it are something else. "Outside Woman Blues" was punchy and aggressive. Lots of Mike singing in this set, which is great. Some of Ziggy's band came out to jam at the end. Great "Sly" medley.
On Saturday, I was so happy to hear 2 ABB songs that I've not heard so much: "Come and Go Blues" and "Stand Back." The "Pasaquan" was really powerful - I'm not a drum solo guy, but the drums were really cooking. And the two new covers, "Heartbreaker" and "Beck's Bolero," were both monstrous. Lots of Gabe singing, and he's a great singer, a powerful addition.
It's a little sad in a sense that the TTB is playing these bigger venues; the sound is not quite as good, and obviously the intimate feeling just ain't there. Still, the band delivers, and they are so good at what they do that the bigger venues are inevitable.

I was at the show in NH 7/03. Amazing show. Derek was on fire all night long. Idle Wind was beyond belief. I've seen Derek play about 35 ties or so, each time he amazes me but this was way beyond.
Beck's Bolero was fantastic. The end had a similar vibe as the end of Mountain Jam, in the shuffle part.
I agree that I wish they would stick to smaller venues, but they have to do what works for them. Can't wait for the Boston Garden show.

I was surprised when I read TTB is covering Cocker's "Woman to Woman" since Tu-Pac's sample on "California Love" is so famous. Pretty cool they dusted off the original.
This year's run has been pretty epic, I saw a few shows in January and they were some of the best I've seen this band. Really makes me wonder if they will pump the brakes a little next year. How to you top playing the Gardens?

play them 2 nights each.
I wonder how they will do there with ticket sales. A lot of the Beacon and Orpheum shows are repeat customers. We will find out.

I was going to skip seeing them at MSG, but I did end up grabbing tix about 2 weeks back after all. There are scattered seats available, plenty of pricey singletons and inexpensive nosebleeds. I don't think they will completely sell it out, but they sold the majority. Good seats were very expensive, IMO.
I've been spoiled by the theaters, but I did enjoy the last 2 shows I saw at MSG: Phish and then "The Brothers" one-off reunion. I just have to go into this one with reasonable expectations. I'm sure that they will make it memorable.

@jimsheridan I prefer theaters but I'm sure there will be a different energy at MSG, they clearly know how to play to the room they're in.

6/24/23 at the Fox in Atlanta is on YouTube right now if you haven't seen it. I watched it last week. Fine show.

Never been a big TTB fan but I'm going July 28th at Red Rocks mostly because a 40 year friend lives in Denver now and he wanted to go. I predict I'll enjoy it but not be rabid about it, as I was the previous few times I've seen them. Then again, they might just blow me away, who knows?

I have been attending TTB Beacon NYC runs since when they first started having them. What a huge disappointment it was to hear that this year was going to be at MSG. While I am happy for the band and their popularity & the prestige of a garden show, you have to admit there is something special about the Beacon. Multi night theater runs are so far superior to an arena show. That being said, I quickly caved & secured garden seats in the bands presale. I will do a 3 night stay & have the other 2 days & nights mapped out. I just hope that they find their way back to the Beacon sooner than later. The amazing thing about this band is their continued improvement. I have seen them countless times & it seems they are always tighter & never fail to tear it up...

Nature of the beast, I suppose. Playing MSG is a pretty big milestone for a band. I love the Beacon, but I can't blame them for switching things up for such an opportunity (TD Garden, as well).
For a few years TTB put on the Sunshine Music Fest in FL in Januarys, then they started adding a few Chicago dates. They stopped doing Sunshine in 2019, but kept doing Chicago (which seems like a backwards choice for January but whatever). This year they announced a series of FL dates in January and no Chicago dates and I saw Chicagoland lose their minds haha. Of course they added some Chicago dates later in the year, but things get moved around. Gotta keep things fresh, a band can't be a creature of habit. I'm sure they will be back at the Beacon eventually.
Have fun at the Garden!

As someone who lives in Chicago I will offer my opinion on their shows here at The Chicago Theatre. I have no idea what the exact itinerary was in the past but it was kind of odd. They would play here on a weekend for two or three nights, leave town and play somewhere else and then come back to play the same venue. I think it was the following weekend. Could have been two weekends but they always came back and played on a weekend.
I wondered why they would leave and play someplace else then always come back to Chicago on a weekend. Seems like a band would play smaller places on a weekend to draw people. Chicago Theatre doesn't really need the allure of a weekend, but living here I am not complaining about bands doing it because I have noticed it for quite a while.
Regarding playing MSG, you are probably correct in that is a feather in their cap if you will but MSG? Are they an arena band? Personally I don't think so. Obviously I guess they are.
And regarding January and February, we get electricity in the winter.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

@lee They were doing successive weekends in Chicago in more recent years, but for a few years they kicked off the year with the Sunshine Music Fest in FL and then headed to the midwest. Point is, their plans changed as the years went by.
I think they'll do fine at MSG, just as The Brothers did, they don't need to fill it. Not even the Knicks can. I heard a lot of fans pining for the Beacon and then caving in and buying MSG tickets.
Glad to hear you have 'lectric 😉

I think they will do fine in the garden too. They are now a good draw at the box office.
I'm sure they will return to the Beacon and the Chicago Theatre.
I read this morning the Rolling Stones have sold more concert tickets than any other music show in history!
But if Taylor Swift keeps up her pace of packing the large venues, she will eventually overtake the Stones.
I'm over the hill and on the down hill slide. I'd go see TTB bad legs included. But with all due respect to Taylor Swift and her fans, I wouldn't go see her even if someone gave me an electric walker with a seat and AC blowing in my face!

Posted by: @robertdeeI'm sure they will return to the Beacon and the Chicago Theatre.
They already have, they played a couple shows there this past Spring, so it was all a big nothing burger.

The Toronto concert this past Thursday was the best show I've seen this year - and
that includes two Springsteen gigs. The trouble with the TTB is that they are far too
reliant on cover songs. That is a problem. Brilliant songwriters don't grow on trees
and, sadly, Derek & Susan don't have one. But the Toronto concert (with a myriad
of other people's songs) was indeed extraordinary.

I'm a big fan of the music TTB covers in concert, but they have plenty of originals that are pretty wonderful. Let Me Get By and I Am the Moon are full of fantastic originals. Mike Mattison in particular has written some great songs for himself, dTb, Scrapomatic, and TTB.

I Am The Moon is one of my favorite albums and I've been buying music for over 70 years.
The title track plus Rainy Day and Circles 'Round The Sun are originals I especially like.
As to covers, maybe they are too heavy on covers. I've never thought about it before. Certainly most people including me expect some covers especially Allman Brothers and Derek and the Dominos.

It's all personal taste, but I think they have many good originals. Shelter (from Revelator) was my wedding song.
As far as covers go, imo it depends on what they are covering, how they do it, and how often. I don't need to hear Bell Bottom Blues anymore, but Outside Woman Blues is great, and I love they tribute some of the "masters", especially the Blues guys. I love their version of Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring, but they haven't done it in > 5 years.

That's one of my favorites, probably my favorite Traffic tune. They were doing "Wah Wah" early on, but seems to be on ice. They keep adding new ones, their "Gilded Splinters" have been pretty epic. Freddie Hubbard's "Mr Clean" has been pretty funky too.

Well I decided to take the plunge and go and see them this past weekend here in Indy. I saw them in 2008 in Dayton as the"Soul Stew Revival" and that was excellent.
I have mentioned before, I have really wanted to like and get into this band , but as far as studio listening, really has done little for my ears.
I think this is a band, at least for me , they are more enjoyable in the live setting. It was a very good show. Alot of power and sound from the stage. I thought a few times Derek and his guitar were going to explode during some of his solos. As we all know, no one plays slide like him. On another level to a degree.
This is just personal preference, but I think some of it has to do with the style/genre of music. Some I really like, others , its just not for me. I have never been a big rnb/soul type music. I like a little more "rock" . I think some of my favorites from the night were the covers and the 1-2 punch of the last songs Made Up Mind and covering the Stones Heartbreaker. Never can have enough Mike Mattison vocals.
Makes me miss the ABB and DTB.
Setlist
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

TTB definitely needs to be seen live to appreciate them. I love the band but I never listened to their studio material much, with the exception of Let Me Get By and I Am the Moon. Their studio albums just don't go into the same gear that they can shift to on stage.

^^
Definitely. I listen almost exclusively to the live recordings. Every now and then I'll put on a studio album and I'll appreciate features of the production or how they have re arranged the tune as time has passed. That's pretty rare, though.
The same is true (for me) for the ABB and GD

I saw them last night at Blossom here in NE Ohio for my third time ever. While I had always enjoyed the shows before, well, since I had only gone twice previously I wasn't exactly in love with it. I thought it has been a while, I don't know, several years, so it was time to see them again. Really great performance by everyone, I could not be happier I decided to go and was thoroughly impressed and pleased by the show. I for sure won't be letting 5 years or more go in between my next TTB date if they are still around doing this next time in my region.

Rolling Stones cover a Tedeshi Trucks Band song!!

Covering rocker Joe Cocker !!!!!

in addition to the show I was at in NH, I’ve listened to a few shows from this tour.
I didn’t think it was possible, but Derek has taken his playing to a whole new level.
